It sounds like you are playing for the story instead of the reason you should be playing. too catch them all

This.

Is where all video game rivals spanned from.
Dude, Red and Blue. I admit that gens 2-5 might have some interesting and cool charcters, but none of them are quite as epically awesome as these two trainers.

I've played Sapphire and Fire Red and seen footage of the rest. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME DAMN THING! Start in a small town, mom tells you to see professor, someone tells you professor is on trouble, ave professor ten you get your pokemon. After that their nephew/niece becomes your rival. Get all badges rinse and repeat. To add to the milking why do they release tow versions of the game on the same platform with the only difference being ONE damn pokemon?

People talk about COD, Halo etc. but THIS is the most milked franchise EVER
Because they're fun addictive and fvcking pokémon what more do you want? and MARIO is way more milked compared to Pokémon;it's the same with Final Fantasy too.

I remember a quote from in the game: "It's hard to release a new game with changes, without changing so much that you tick off the fans."

It's Nintendo, they love to milk all their franchises.

But atleast Mario changes. I can't see Mario Galaxy as the same as New Super Mario Brother or Paper Mario.

One word: Squirtle!
But I don't know. I haven't played since Crystal. I haven't been much of a hand held gamer for a long time.

Because we hold onto the slim chance that it's going to be unique, and instead of mom kicking us out of the house to play with dangerous creatures that the old weirdo in town gave us, it's dad doing this instead.

Also for retro appeal, and the upgrades they add to the obnoxious features from older games. And the stories, which are textbook, but they're still pokemon

And because we fucking feel like it, the same way people buy CoD games launch day and DLC for it when it comes out, because they're fans of the series and anything with that brand is interesting and exciting for them. Everyone is a fanboy/girl of some franchise tag, certain franchises make it easier to throw money at than others

Because they enjoy the games and have enough disposable income to afford them?

Oh, sorry, this is the obligatory topic of the week for complaining about a Nintendo franchise that, as a long running series, keeps and refines core mechanics instead of throwing them out the window. Okay, I guess I'll go elsewhere. Rant on

Well, while I'm here I may as well give you a few reasons that I continue to buy them.

Good old turn-based combat (I can't be the only one left on the world who likes the combat system, can I?)

Darkest light-toned world you'll ever see. No, seriously. Read the pokedex. Freaking Nightmare Fuel

More choices than any other RPG I've ever played, especially if you're not into the competive scene and no need to restrict yourself from lower tiers.

And, this time, I will catch 'em all, dammit!

Also, pleanty of people love the competive multiplayer.

Because they still fucking rock, and have some of the best competitive play and endgame content in the business on top of that.

People who think it all went downhill after R/B/Y or G/S/C are just fooling themselves.

The improvements made with each game in the series are mostly seen in the battle system and endgame content.

The Battle Tower was the best thing to happen to the series, imo. And not the shitty Crystal version one.

The Physical/Special split between individual attacks, rather than just types, introduced in Gen 4 was brilliant, too. It made elemental punch Alakazam less utterly broken, and made Hitmonchan...Well, he still sucks, actually. Just much less. He's now viable, at least.

Don't get me started on the epicness of the Battle Frontier...
jesus, after reading this post i wanna go back and play them all again now =\

OT: you are actually questioning pokemon?

its the most user friendly advanced strategy/adventure game on the handhelds, hands down, any kid can pick up the game and play through it, but at the same time two adults can sit there for hours crunching numbers and developing teams for strategies.
