People buy Pokemon because it's simple. And people like simple. They also like collecting things for incentive.

But, I don't buy Pokemon. Black and White can go rot in hell for all I care.

But it doesn't. It doesn't stand at all.

100 new pokemon but you only need 3 too win the game the rest are ust to fill your craving to collect everything a game has to offer.

And sports games don't have best players? Hundreds of players, and only a few dream teams. You're supposed to use the ones you like, not just the best. Any game with choices have choices that are clearly better than others.

New updated roster of retarded looking pokemon. I can admit that the first 151 are awesome but nowadays... you have to admit that the designs are getting ridiculous.

Whoop de doo. This only silly argument again. The first game was just as ridiculous in it's designs.

2v2 battles aren't a game mode and that feature was introduced once and added to the what 5 other pokemon games following it.

Nice job ignoring the primary mention of the Battle Tower.
See this is my point. You are the same type of person that would agree with me if I were to make a thread titled "Why do people buy yearly installments of sports games".

Yeah sure the Battle Tower is in all the games....

Yeah...no. The newest pokemon are the most retarded looking. Te original ones are the most memorable to a lot of pokemon fans.

My point about the updated roster was that they only add more pokemon (that still look incredibly ridiculous) to have the users collect them all.

In sports games they aren't the biggest feature. Heck the devs update the rosters based on injuries etc.. EVERY WEEK. My example of NBA 2k11 was used primarily due to the fact that they added a LOT to the game over the previous one, NBA 2k10. A Michael Jordan challenge with a bonus of being able to control MJ and play with him on current teams and such. From NBA 2k9 to 2k10 they added a single player mode called My Player where you create your own guy and guide him through his journey through the NBA.

When is the last time the pokemon series received a big new game mode or feature? I don't hate pokemon (digimon was better though) I just don't see why they newed the regular installments when the newest ones add barely anything new.

Yeah my point still stands. If you manage to show me how the newest games have completely improved on the last making it look obsolete then I will back down and agree with you.

Why not, people buy call of duty games, and different year sport games as well and they are all the same too.
Yeah but the sports games actually change from year to year. Look at the improvement from NBA 2k10 to NBA 2k11. 2k Sports fixed almost all problems with their previous game, added more game modes, updated roster (as usual), and a revamped online competitive mode.

What does each version of Pokemon add? Like 5 more pokemon?
Ok I don't like the new pokemon games but srsly?

Are you trolling?

Maybe this is an opportunity for a pokemon fan to come in and explain all of the different things added (Like new HM's, and berries, and night and day, and two pokemon in a battle per team, and the updated box system, and other things I don't know about because I gave up after Gold/Silver/Crystal)

Also, there's like... between 490 and 500 pokemon, I don't know the exact number. I think there's been 4 generations now... We started with 151 (Including Mew) that's about 350 over 3 generations... over 100 per generation.

So they're pretty comparable with 2k games. I would argue better because the gameplay doesn't need to be updated but the mechanics are kept fresh.

Because they're awesome?

Nintendo adds enough content and easter eggs to make new Pokemon games fun. They're as addicting as TV Tropes.

Its because the games are enjoyable, and Pokemon targets a good fifteen year age group (5-20). its also interesting to see what advancements Game Freak and Nintendo make to the RPG genre.

Because they are fun. That's good enough reason for me. It's like asking someone why they buy the new Madden games.

Because:
A. They are fucking awesome
B. Reason A
C. Its milked because its marketable without even lifting a finger
D. Even if it is milked, you can ignore that and enjoy the games, the very reason the franchise is awesome
E. They come out with new ones every like 4 years, if they didn't I wouldn't have my current favorite pokemon (Empoleon)
F. Those who say newer ones suck really just don't get it.

I'm pretty sure Colosseum was the first to break the formula (not counting pinball) and it continued with the Ranger and Mystery Dungeon games. Though you're probably talking about the main games.

Well, as stated before, there's been the contest and pokelathon aspects, but I'd suspect that you think those "don't count" Also, when the hell did adding over a hundred of new Pokemon not count as something "new"

Getting back to the OP, I just like the aesthetic of pokemon. I like cute and/or fluffy things along with badass mofos, and this game lets me use both. Plus I find that when you die, you tend to feel less crappy about it since you aren't the one directly fighting. It wasn't your fault you lost the match, it was your Charmander's fault because he wasn't strong enough to take down that Squirtle.

Memorabilty =/= good. Cloyster-gina, 2 stars with rubies in them, Slowbro, Jynx, a fat ass dragon, a bird, a rat, whatever Diglett is, two caterpillars (And two cocoons), whatever Hitmonlee is, etc. The original Pokemon look just as stupid (Or totally dull) if you remove the nostalgia glasses...

If you played the later games first (Like my younger brother), you would be thinking that the new Pokemon look far superior than the originals, and that the originals looked ridiculous (Or, as he referred to Tangela, "Completely freaking retarded").

Comparing Pokemon to Digimon is like comparing vodka to orange juice. They're complete different things...They just end up lumped together because they have vagely similar names.
Anyway, the last big feature Pokemon received was in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, with the physical special split. That means every attack was changed to fit how it worked instead of it's type. This also meant every Pokemon received a different movelist so they don't end up completely useless if their original moveset received benefits from the original system. The biggest new game mode was the Battle Tower, which was in Pokemon Emerald. The Battle Tower allowed players to play post-game content other than just Elite 4 runs and catching them all. The Battle Tower lets players play against in-game teams that aren't completely pitiful and at times can be similar to competitive teams.

If you honestly believe that Black and White is just Red and Blue with improved graphics, then no amount of proof or points will possibly get you to change your mind. So don't at like you would consider agreeing with us please.

You know, you buy one and a friend buys the other?

Not many games do that these days.
Plus, Black and White look god damned fantastic!
I don't know, Black and White .... there's just something ... it feel off. Maybe it's the 'dynamic battling' or whatever, or how they added triple battles. I'm not sure, and it's just my opinion, but I'd rather have a complete reset to zero (new types and everything) so that they can at least seem new, rather than just giving an old pokemon a new skin (because the types and stats only allow for so much variation). Alternatively, once you get to the point where you are making ice-cream pokemon/God pokemon you should remake the really old ones for nostalgia's sake, then make a completely new play-style (think a skill-tree RPG combined with an Eevee-spore mix for character growth and real-time combat).

So yeah, either restart the franchise except for the basic gameplay mechanics, make prior instalments better, or do something new.

It not only has improved graphics but new pokemon! :D

But seriously, Pokemon Emerald was a gameboy advance game...

I think that with the 3DS coming out with better online capabilities they should just add the newer pokemon they think up as DLC on whatever online store Nintendo has instead of making new games every 2-3 years.

Mostly for me it's nostalgia. However with every game I've bought since Silver, I've never really leveled pokemon past 80, got bored after that :p

And it seems that the majority of people on this site, in Japan, and at Game Freak and Nintendo disagree with you. So... Despite how "right" your opinion is in your mind, it's still extremely wrong in ours.

So you don't think that they should continue the franchise, good for you, look the other direction when you see something advertising it then. No one is forcing you to play or like the games. It is your choice to dislike them, and our choice to like them.

I'm not here to defend Pokemon, necessarily, since I don't entirely get it, either, but I find it really funny that you started off by mentioning Halo and Call of Duty, two relatively unchanging series whose fanbase clamors for new games more rabidly than the Pokemon fans. While we're at it, why not throw fighting games into the mix? Tell me what's really changed about Tekken, SoulCalibur, Virtua Fighter, or Street Fighter over the years. Hell, one of my favorite fighting games of all time is Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and I'm excited for the upcoming sequel just because it's more of a series I love with some new fighters thrown in to mix things up, as well as an improved graphics engine and some minor gameplay tweaks.
As for Pokemon itself, I think that unless you actually play the games, simply watching footage will give you an idea of the graphical improvements from game to game, but won't really show you the subtle changes or added game modes. The only games I've ever played were red, blue, yellow, and the first stadium game, so I can't tell you what's changed since then. However, I can easily see how deep the games can get and can understand why they've built such a fanbase.
Plus, you always have to factor in the fact that Nintendo fans just always seem a little more zealous about their favorite games.

To me the most milked series(that I love) is harvest moon. At least pokemon changes somethings, and they don't do that bullshit of releasing male and female version of the game.
