Why are you generalizing all of us US gamers?

You should stop doing that.
I'm not generalising. I specifically said it pisses me off when I see people who live in the US complain about game prices. I never said all Americans piss me off because they all complain about game prices.

Because it's still money that we have to pay.

"Why can't I pay nothing! Better yet, why can't you pay me to buy your game?!"

People will complain about anything. Get over it.
Yeah this about sums it up. Can you not buy online or are the prices still way up there for australia?

I haven't really heard that many complaints coming from the non-retarded but if you want a reason is because we like to complain and so do you [sub](obviously)[/sub]

I would point out the irony of you guys complaining that americans complain to much but... yeah I think I made my point.

Games are not cheap no matter where you are. Yes they are more expensive depending on where you live but gaming is not a cheap hobby anywhere. But I'm more then willing to pay the 60 dollars for a game if I can afford it.

If I can't (like during the school year when I have rent and crap to pay) I search the bargin bins or just my folks to get me it for Christmas, etc. (Doesn't always work but I can try)

Fair enough but it's not as simple as the price alone. I mean it all depends of the situation of a country or state's economic state and stability. For example, even though the most I have to pay for a new game is 60 USD the freaking sales tax comes up to nearly 10% here in California so I still end up paying much more, which made my newly bought PS3 actually cost almost 330 USD. And the controllers and headsets? Damn I got milked.

Steam used to be a lot cheaper, but they have now increased their prices to match retail.

One good reason, our economy is in the toilet and spending that kinda of money one a game is ridiculous right now. Hell spending 1.25 USD for a bottle of soda is almost too much. In may state alone the unemployment rate is about 10.5%. That's fucking high.
You also have to take into account the possible difference in taxes as well. I'm sure you pay more in taxes and/or it could cost the company more to ship it to Australia. Most of the game companies are in Canada or the US and the rest in Japan and other random places.
I've never heard of US gamers complaining of prices for games. I'm betting most of them are under 18 and living at home mooching off mom and dad with a minimum wage paying job if they're lucky.

Steam was good at one time. Now they've jacked the price up to shaft us as well. It's generally cheaper than retail, but it's not a huge saving you make. I mean, Bad Company 2 is listed at $69.99, which seems good, until you factor in that Steam displays our prices in US dollars.

I'm calling /thread now.

Really, price difference or not, we're still losing our money. We like money and don't like losing it.

I'd say it's mainly because the prices just went up with this latest generation. It's also easier to compare your current experience to your past experience than it is to compare your current experience to someone else's current experience when they live an ocean away from you.

That said, I remember back in the SNES days when big name games like Street Fighter 2 and Chrono Trigger cost me (err... my dad) in the neighbourhood of $120 Canadian so I have my own reason to laugh when someone complains about a game costing them $60.

I can understand that raising the price of something is never received well, but it's not merely the US where this has happened. While you guys were getting games for $50, we had to pay $99. Still less than the $120 we have now, but still not good. It's hard living in a country which hates games and gamers in general.

$60 for a 4-6 hour game is still a rip off. 2 hour movie cost $10, so $5 per hour; so for a $60 game you should get at least 12 hours of game.

Yeah, that would've been a time when games cost thousands to make... not millions.
Ninja'd. I was gonna say there used to be a time where production costs weren't millions.

Seriously man, I only got paid $75 to get Half-Life 2 when they should have been paying me at least triple that!

Also, Australia isn't in the Western World

OT: I don't buy new games, I wait for those nice steam deals to get stuff since I'm a PC gamer. Also, ours may be cheaper, but you've also got to look at how much money the average person has to spend in those countries against how much we do, theres more than just greed that dictates prices.
Western world= Christian influenced society or European influenced society.

US gamers complain about paying $60 for a game because, while in converted amounts $60 is less than 60 Pounds, wages over here suck, making $60 a significant amount of money. This is especially true for high school and college students, for whom $60 is a very large fraction of a monthly paycheck -- assuming they're fortunate enough to have a job in the first place. Wages have been going down since at least the 70's. I can't remember the exact statistic, but the minimum wage has not increased along with inflation; even though the dollar amount is over twice as high as it was 40 years ago, the buying power of that money is actually lower today.

Why do people from other countries always make threads complaining about what people in America say or do? Why let it bother you? Whats worse, complaining about a $60 game or complaining about complainers? Get over it. Find something meaningful to piss you off so bad. Make a thread about how fat Americans are and how they are going to knock Earth off it's axis because we're so fat, or something...
