Why do people hate optional stuff so much?

Dragon age two is the current example, there is nothing forcing the people to use the action controlls and yet they are acting like it is a personal insult.

Because these people to which you refer, who are most likely a vocal minority, are lazy and hate change. The reason they hate change is because it means they have to adapt, which requires thought and energy and they are lazy. That's just about it. Same with optional sidequests. It's also possible that they have an inflated sense of self-importance and think that everything in a game should be exactly what they want rather than what the developer feels would be the best choice.

Because some stuff, even if optional, change the perception of what our favorite series are.

Oh, gooodness. Do you frequent Cracked.com? Years ago, in the comments section of their articles they added a swear filter. There is a "show profanities" button in clear view, in all capital letters, above the comments section itself and all you have to do is press it once for the cookies to remember your decision to show the glorious cuss words forever and ever. Despite all this, for some unearthly reason, TO THIS DAY there are some members that still complain about the feature.

People on the interwebz just tend to need to voice every minor annoyance in exaggerated fashion simply because they can. It's like a basic living organism's need for oxygen. If they don't, I imagine they'd die. That's the only reason I can think of to answer your question, Kashif.

Because they don't like the 'optional stuff' and would prefer the game didn't include the "offensive" changes, optional or otherwise. Fast travel, arcade/action modes, difficulty levels below "murderous frustration", et cetera.

Although Dragon Age 2 is not a very good example, as the complains are fully justified - console versions only have the "action controls", with no alternatives, and even the PC version has lost the tactical view.

Well, the action controls are hardwired into the console versions because Bioware "forgot" to add the auto attack.

Because obviously if someone changed anything for any reason on something you liked, then it must suddenly suck and be worthy of all your time and energy to protest, or maybe people just like bitching.

To misquote Douglas Adams, "If people don't keep complaining, their brains start working."

People will always find a way to ***** about something.
If everything was the same, people would be bitching about that.

The human race is a species of complainers. You should really just learn to get used to it.
And you should probably get nice and comfortable with the fact that, yes, you are just as much of a whiny jackass as everyone else.

I guess people are just so spoiled and selfish that they think every little thing needs to fitted to their own personal wants.

It really depends on what kind of optional we're talking about. If we're talking about the useless filler kind of optional (ie collect 5 terrorist laptops for 500 points) then I think the hatred is justified. If it's side content that adds some character development (pro tip: optional quests are a great place develop side characters) or perhaps some side info, then it's fine, even encouraged in my book.

It seems that the majority of developers just try to cram a bunch of optional content in so they can pad the game play without fitting it into the plot hence the anger.

People like to *****, simple as that.

As for DA2, I think on consoles, the action controls are the only ones available right now, the auto attack option doesn't work.
That's what I've heard, anyway.

So, in this case, the bitching may actually be justified.

Wow, there's really just nothing else to say, just, wow.
I love that most members of this forum are intelligent, but that also means that someone else has already said what I was going to say, which can get eally irritating.
