Why do people hate the Wii.

All of these I either have or have played, and love. None of them have Mario or Zelda in the title. I'd also like to point out Metroid Prime 1 & 2 and Pikmin being rereleased for Wii using the Wiimote, the Wii's back-catalogue of Gamecube and Virtual console games, Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy, which are both much fun, the upcoming Kirby game for the Wii, Conduit and Manhunt, about which I'm rather excited, etc etc.

Whether you personally enjoy these games or not is moot. The fact of the matter is that many others do enjoy them. I don't like GTA or Halo, do I have the gall to deny that they're good games just because they don't appeal to me?

Metroid Prime and Wario are established franchises and Lego Indiana Jones is multi-platform. It's actually better on the other systems.

No, but the part where it's just a gamecube with a gimmicky control scheme based off the failed Sega Power Glove is. The Wii isn't next gen. Sure, it has some good games, but it doesn't have as many as the other consoles and it isn't anywhere near as technologically advanced as the 360 or the PS3.

I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one who considers hardcore gaming a PC thing... I mean anyone can pick up and play a consul, making it somewhat less hardcore. Of course the Wii is even more softcore then other consuls. But its fun in a have your mates round and get drunk kinda-way.

Also, to add to list of good games that arnt Nintendo milkings, Excite Truck and DBZ Budakai 2/3 (Though its down to personal taste that one, I like fighting games + DBZ, so its fun)

I'll admit, my Wii gets very little play time, especially with no internet connection for it, which means I cant play mario kart or ssbb online, but I do tinker with it now and then, and I find it genuinly fun. Oppose to playing on my friend's 360, where we get yelled at on xboxlive by whatever hyperactive kiddies happen to think they're cool cause they can teamkill.

It's a GameCube game, but if you want to get the most out of it, such as effective inventory management and special minigames, you need to have a Nintendo GBA and a link cable.

Oh, and it's a co-op game, so you're barely getting anything out of it unless you play with your friends. Each one of your friends needs a Nintendo GBA and link cable as well.

Oh, and if you want to get the most most out of it, you'll need to buy the Nintendo e-Card Reader [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_e-Reader] and collectible trading cards to swipe.

By the time you have the necessary hardware for a four player game (assuming you already had a Gamecube and standard controllers) you've paid over $500 ($100 per GBA, $20 per link cable, ?$ for e-Reader, ?$ for cards, ect).

No I have to call you out on this. If you owned a Gamecube, you owned a GBA, and you owned a link cable, and your LYING if you say otherwise. I have never met a Gamecube owner who didn't have those before he brought his Gamecube, I have to call exaggeration on that.

I owned a Gamecube and GBA Player, but my sister owned a link cable that I NEVER used (that I can remember). Besides, Penny Arcade were right about something? No way... Get outta town! After all, it's not like they'd ever make extremely obvious statements about games and then let their fans jump all over them, is it?

Also, what's up with that guy that said he hates the PS2? How can you hate the game system with probably the biggest library of quality games of any game system ever created? I mean, the only system I see competing with it right now (for mastery of the universe) is the Snes. VC, Wiiware, PSN Store and Xbox Live just don't have big enough libraries to compete with the gigantic PS2 library.

First of all, it stopped being "next gen" when we moved into the current generation of console gaming, which does include the Wii unless you're an elitist prick who can't look beyond the technical specifications of a console.
Secondly, specs and control schemes do not a good system make. Belittling the Wii based on its technical capabilities is moot, as is praising it for the Wiimote. Ultimately, it's the games that matter. So I'm saying that no, the part where the Wii is "just a gamecube with a gimmicky control scheme based off the failed Sega Power Glove" is not a valid reason to dislike the console.
Which brings me to my third point: I can rattle off a list of "good" Wii games (that is, games which A) appeal to me and B) are exclusive to the Wii) that is longer than an equivalent list for PS3 and 360 combined. Hell, even being nice and allowing multiplat games that don't find their way to Wii or PC (so games only available on either 360 or PS3), the first list wins out. That's not counting Virtual Console or the Wii's back-catalogue of Gamecube games, by the way, although it is counting WiiWare. And this is not because I haven't been paying attention to the other consoles' releases. I'd very much like a PS3.
What's the point of this? To show you how very subjective gaming is. I don't care if you don't like a single game on the Wii, the fact of the matter is that it has plenty of games that people who are not you enjoy. Get over it.

And now, my final point, before I leave this thread, because I don't want to get embroiled in a flame war: What the hell happened to people just playing games for the hell of it? Why do they insist on hating something that other people enjoy? I find it, quite frankly, pathetic.

True dat. That's why I don't even have a next-gen system (simmer down, Wii fanboys, my sister owns a Wii and I've played it, so I know what I'm talking about.) I'll pick up a system when I see some good games on them. Right now Castle Crashers, No More Heroes, Bioshock and Madworld are about the only games that look good to me.

Besides, the PS2 also has tons of collections, too. Metal Slug, Taito Legends 1 and 2, Capcom Classics, Street Fighter Anniversary (and Alpha), KoF Orochi Saga... And let's not even get into all the Essentials collections!

I'm been going into Metal Slug withdrawal since my sister sold our PS2...

As for the Wii itself, it still doesn't have the strong third-party support it needs. Also, I'd just like to say that the Wii controller can go throw itself a party. New Testament Judas style.

That "plus" would not actually need one. I do NOT need a dildo attachment for my wii, I don't want one, and there isn't really any point in me having different pieces for maybe one or two games. also you just seemed to skim over my 9 other VALID points. Don't be such a fanboy. With my Xbox there is the headset and the controller. The PS3 has the controller and the headset maybe, and the PC has the KB the Mouse and a headset. You don't need anything else to play them to their full potential.
The wii's library is essentially tiny, if you filter out all the crap games.

I don't like Wii because it's allowed advertising and media types to needlessly segment people. Not only that the quality of too many of the games on the Wii is low and it sends the message that this kind of shoddy work is acceptible; in the same way that the 360 sends the message that it is perfectly fine to sell cheaply made hardware to people and just totally rip them off.

I think that the reason most people hate the wii is because we were all looking forwards to it so much , and then they had like 5 or 10 good games and the rest are shitty, so dissapointment plus shitty games =HATE!

Personally, I went for quite awhile with a GameCube and no GBA, but I realize I might be an exception to the rule.

Really, Crystal Chronicles rage wasn't about what you might have had, it was about what you could pressure your friends into buying. It's little Timmy having a game he wants to play with his 3 friends who (Nintendo hopes) may not already own GBAs and link cables. $120 apiece, $360 total cash being sent in Nintendo's general direction. Not a bad piece of work for one Squaresoft game.

People hate the Wii because they want stick-waggling technology to be good right now. Nevermind that we've been shouting at arcade games for decades for misinterpreting our button presses. In addition, people are more aware of the Wii's dearth of bad games because there aren't as many good games to draw their attention away. There are just as many bad games for the other two big-budget systems. Hopefully this will change in the new year, what with all the promising new 'mainstream' titles to look forward to.

That's what I feel. I had been the Womanizing Gladiator of peace justice and nintendo in high school, everyone else had Halo and said how cool it was. But I stuck to my kirby and link to the end. Because I knew that the Dolphin ( now called the Wii) would smile upon my faith and grant me what was to be a B-Class virtual reality. But the false prophets of the gaming magazines kicked me in the shorts with their lies. And I was betrayed, the controls horrible and the games worse, which is why I went to the dark side : XBOX 360

It is my belief that should the Wii have not come with the motion control it is praised/bashed for, then the Wii would be a complete failure. Infact, before they announced the motion control, my mind was fully set that it would fail and become another Gamecube.

But other than that, I have no problems with it's marketing. While I havn't played mine in ages, with the lack of "must have games!" syndrome from me with my Wii, and me reluctant to buy anything for it (I borrow from my friend if possible), I appreciate what it tries to do.

I always hate it when 360/PS3 elitists (or Nintendo faithfuls sometimes) always push the Wii down because it's not "caturing to 'hardcure' funs!!@$^" or that it's all "casual" gaming for it. How else are we going to broaden the audience for Video Games?

Conversely, I absolutely hate it when even more people bash the 360/PS3 because it's not catering to broadening the audience or because it's "all HD and expensuv! They went ahead of themsulvs!$!%" How else are we supposed to advance our experience if you guys want to stick to cartidges?

This console generation is by far the most balanced, and because of that it's the most bloodthirstiest wars of all.

Yeah, that was exactly how it went for me too. (Well, except the high school part.) I never would have even considered buying an Xbox if the Wii had satisfied my gamer needs. But it didn't, so after waiting patiently for 1,5 years or so I finally had to look elsewhere..
By the way, I believe 'Dolphin' was the codename of the Gamecube, and 'Revolution' of the Wii.

I'm not sure I hate the Wii, but I'm not exactly a fan either tbh.

I am an old fan of Zelda and Mario Kart, but I just find the console gimmicky and faddish, with nothing I can get my teeth properly into. The games that I see seem to be just excuses to wiggle a plastic baton around in mid-air.... good for family parties maybe, but really not the kind of game I can buy into when gaming on my own. Even by the fourth party I can see my self getting really bored of jumping around like a burnt monkey, just because it's the latest thing to do.

I just honestly don't see the difference in repetively jerking a plastic stick back and forth, or pressing the X button... The game play isnt any different or deeper to me personally. It just looks like the same thing with worse gfx infact.

Plus, I hate the way their adverts ALWAYS show the grandmother or girlfriend beating the bloke gamer in a pathetic bid to blow smoke up their bums and get them to buy it.
