Despite considering myself to be a fairly solid, well-rounded unprejudice person, I do have a thing about vegetarians. They really really annoy me.
I am sure that you are a nice person, you seem very thoughtful and sensative, it is just that I have met so many vegetarians who are completly wet around the ears and huge pains in my neck.
Like one girl who I used to live with, who made a big big fuss about the communal chopping board being used to cut meat. Saying this act `contaminated` her diet and body and that we were being inconsiderate. I say, suck it up and buy your own chopping board, why should three people cater to one person`s beliefs
Then, I go travelling abroad at lot, and there is always one, always one vegetarian who puts his foot in it. Sometimes as a group we are invited to eat with people. You know, it is a foreign country, customs are different, and no matter how foul and disgusting the food looks, you eat it. Even if it is dog, cockroaches, sheep brains, you eat it. Not doing so is really bad manners. But then you get the `vegetarian` who refuses to eat the food because of their `diet` or `beliefs` and it is just pure pure embarassment. It looks so arrogant and ungrateful, and they will not even TRY to eat the food. After this happened twice, I refuse to travel with vegetarians. It is just so humiliating.
Finally, you get the vegetarian around for dinner, who you have to cook seperatly for, and who wlll give you the lecture about environmentalism, diet, vegetarian cooking. After one hour of this, I am ready to kill this person and shave the eco-system off his face.
So, hopefully you can understand, at times, being vegetarian is just plain bad manners. I am sure there are nice vegetarians out there though. But I like people who do not wear there beliefs on their sleeve and will try something different. I think it is fine to be vegetarian, just not full time. It is not really appropriate. Understanding occurs when people try to walk in someone else`s shoes. But you should not aim to be defined by what you choose not to eat.
I can understand that you do not like meat, but I think you will miss out on a lot if you never try.
