Same reason people (like me) would listen to house or techno or drum N bass.

To us it sounds good and makes us feel like moving.
Wether you like it or not it IS a kind of music and you either do or do not have a taste for this particular kind.

It's one of life's mysteries really. I can listen to some techno, but I've never heard anything as dislikable as "wub wub wub".

I like dubstep and I'm not gonna be like OMG FUCKING LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE ITS THE TITZ DOG YO YO YO BOSS.

But the people on here that are saying it's shit and that anyone that likes it is an idiot... Well I kinda expected more from the Escapites.

There's good dubstep and there's bad dubstep just like with any kind of genre and saying that it's the same as techno is like saying death metal and speed metal and black metal are the same. Or jazz and soul and blues. They're not. They're just not.

I'm disappointed in some of you guys. Really.

its purposeless noise, can't even dance to it, waste of time.

music should either evoke emotion (see anger, happiness, sadness, melancholy, peace) or be in conjunction with an activity (see swing music, most videogame songs, and the massively wide genre known as "dance")
Dubstep covers all of those. In fact Knights in black suits is the most melancholy and peaceful song I've heard in a long time. I listen to it between Otis Redding and Bill Withers.

There's loads of genres that you can't dance to, like metal, rap, pop and in fact who can even dance properly these days.

Ironically for you the core of dubstep is that it makes you feel things you don't have a name for, it doesn't matter how you move or how you look you're just going with it, becoming part of it.

Though I agree with you that the best dancing comes with music such as swing or jazz and such performances have their own places in my memory.

Dubstep became popular thanks to MDMA. That and stupid people.
I can't even tell if this is serious. But I don't do any kind of illegal drugs and I know people with scholarships that listen to dubstep.

...I actually want to ask if you have any friends.

Then again, haters gon' hate.

I like it every now and again, it's not like I listen it for hours. I find it to be fun or almost silly music, it amuses me due to it being so over the top. I struggle to avoid judging the people who are saying how only dumb asses can like it...

(I normally just listen to alternate rock)

Because some people like certain styles of music...

Why is it so bad that everyone likes dubstep? What does it matter to you? There's no reason to be elitist about stuff like this. People who hate on dubstep are just as bad as wannabe hipsters who talked about liking Arcade Fire before they won best album.

My vinyl collection spans quite a bit of genres, but you're willing to call me an idiot because I like Skrillex. Makes sense.

One of my friend actually makes dubstep, they tend to be really listenable. I've found a few other dubstep songs which are great as well. Theres a couple that sample from Muse which I really like.
Some dubstep can be quite dark and emotional, more than just pointless beeps and wub wubbing.

This is coming from somebody who likes metal and generally hates anything that sounds like dance or hip hop or whatever.

I genuinely enjoy dubstep, although I'm very picky about which songs. But then again why do people like country music? All they do is whine about women, trucks, beer and dogs. Or why do people like death metal? It's all just inane banging instruments with incomprehensible screaming.

To be honest I think dubstep became popular with Mt. Eden's Serria Leone

But some people also like remixed songs, here's one of my favorites

I don't even know what a "Dubstep" is. Maybe I'm just not with the times...I can't stand music with people singing, but, eh...Who knows.

Asking why people like any kind of music is silly. Everybody likes different kinds of music, and music can be pretty much anything you want it to be. It's all a matter of opinion.

One thing I can't stand though is people saying dubstep has no value, it doesn't evoke any emotion, or that it isn't truly music. It may not be those things to YOU, but that's only your opinion. Don't entirely disregard the genre, and the listeners of that genre just because you don't understand that form of music. Respect all genres of music.

I'm a musician and I enjoy dubstep from time to time, have to be in the mood for it. If you don't like a lot of the Dubstep with huge ass drops and "wubwubwub's" try listening to some of these guys.

I generally like dubstep, and as a Londoner who has been regularly clubbing over the past decade I've been 'aware' of the genre for quite a while. But I've been getting really pissed off with it recently.

This is mainly because mainstream clubs (and I'm thinking chains like Oceana or Tiger Tiger) now seem to be solely playing 'dubstep', or more often, bad dubstep remixes of chart tunes. For the whole night. And I find it just gets a bit repetitive and boring.

Heaviness is heavier when it's in a varied context, and for the same reason why I enjoy Slayer's South of Heaven more than Reign in Blood, dubstep is more enjoyable when that awesome beat drops in a varied context.

I used to hate dubstep, thinking it was nothing more than terrible sounds and thunderous bass.

I really like it now though, and I think it's because of the discordance of sound.

I really am unsure about Skrillex being Dubstep at all. I despise Skrillex and all many of the Dubstep remixes of songs, but rather enjoy Skream. It's much more like Reggae. Yes, it's repetitive and many people won't like it, but to write it off a "crap" is just ignorant and closed-minded.

Two songs by Skream, if anyone is interested:

DUBSTEP (n) - Genre of electronic dance music featuring overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals. Rating of dubstep songs is by level of "filth", with the best songs being the filthiest and the worst being downright clean. Note the expression, "this song is filthier than fingering your sister and finding your dad's wedding ring".

Because I got bored of listening to only metal, Good dubstep has to have highs and lows it can't all just be bass. It's like it awoken a hidden part of my headphones that has never been used before.

Okay I supose I will reply..
It's like asking the same questions that have been asked for decades.

I could just swap out the word "Dubstep" And replace it with anything from Industrial to punk to Hardstyle to Romantic-Classical.

Some people like it. Others do not.
Just because you don't see the appeal. Doesn't make it bad. For example I love Death and Black Metal. Most of my friends if they hear it just say that its shit. Its the same Thing if I like something. Doesn't mean you will like it.

tl;dr Some people like it. Others do not.
Just like all genres of music

I had no idea what it was, so I searched it on youtube, but all I could find were videos that had nothing in them but three or four minutes of beeping and loud bass. It was literally one of the worst things I had ever heard, and I really can't see the appeal.

Why do you like what ever type of music you listen to?

I appreciate that it does not appeal to you, the very same way that it doesn't appeal to me. However, there are people out there that enjoy it.

When it comes to music I stand by one rule. There is no bad music! Just types of music that I don't like.

Hell, even Bieber is popular for a reason... not that I enjoy his noise!
