Admit it, you just created this thread to draw out the Microsoft/Sony fanboys. And then, when they flame you, you can report them and get them suspended/banned. Bwahahahahaha..., etc.

...anyway, it does somewhat confuse me. People are constantly calling for innovation. Nintendo gave it to them, and suddenly they don't want it.
well i wanted to ge the fanboys to come but i wanted to see if they could make a good enough argument that didnt involve graphics, and such

Well, I won't rant about it, but trying to play serious games on the Wii is really frustrating for me. I don't own a Wii, but I attempted to play CoD5 on my cousin's Wii. The controls were unintuitive, and took a lot of getting used to, but that was manageable - I could still get through the level. What I found most annoying was that the dark colour palette combined with the graphics limitations made it incredibly difficult to see what I was shooting at. They just looked like dark blurs.

That's not to say I haven't had fun with the Wii. Playing Smash Bros. Brawl with a group of friends at a party was probably the best time I've had in multiplayer since I was a little kid playing Goldeneye 64. And playing Wii Sports with my family is fun, because it's accessible to them.

force people to buy a 3000 dollar television just to get the most out of the system? That's rather counter-intuitive.
£140 got me a good PC monitor and VGA cable which gives me 1080P from my 360.
That may be true, but how many people have enough tech knowledge to know that you can hook it up to a monitor? Most people associate videogames with the TV. A lot of people can't fathom that a monitor can display X-Box 360/Playstation 3/Wii games. You have to consider that not everyone is as cool with tech as we.

If you're looking for shooters on Wii, try Metroid Prime 3 (or Trilogy) and the Conduit. Excellent control and the visuals are nice and clean for both games.

Well, I don't own one, but I'd certainly recommend those titles to my cousin.

I think the Wii would definitely work better with games designed by Nintendo specifically for the Wii, and maybe I'd have a better experience if I played more of those. Multi-platform games don't always seem to translate too well to it.

I wouldn't say I have an immense about of tech knowledge - just a bit of common sense and market research.
As much as I hate to say it, most people lack both of those traits.

Because the Wii has so many damn flaws? Or maybe now because the newest is update bricking people's Wiis? Or simply because people hate the Wii. You pick.

The reason they rant about it is because no matter how much they deny it, they love it. So they smokescreen it with hateful words and stuff......Yes, I'm talking to you Yahtzee.

People rant about a lot of things. It seems the Wii is just on a lot of people's rant lists right now.
You've sparked a lovely idea in my mind sir, and if it turns out to be the catalyst for the ultiamte destruction of humanity let us just make it clear that you were the one who gave it to me. Thank you! :D
While I do appreciate that my post could be the cataclysm for destroying the world I have tried and failed dozens of times before. What I am trying to say is if my post gave you the idea don't be surprised if it fails.

Poorly implemented controls, sub-par games, mostly terrible graphics, over-priced for what it is.

I'd say those are the main categories. I owned one for about a year by the way, played it for 5/6 months.

I've played single games that give me more value than that.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and something like 3:1 on the games:extra-peripherals-required ratio.

Accused "Flaws"

1. Bad controls - False. Anyone who plays with the Wii for more than six seconds is going to realize that the controls are fairly intuitive, so long as you stop bitching for those six seconds and learn how to play the game.

2. Lack of titles - Read through this thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.127546] here. Between my OP and ChromeAlchemist's witty comic...

3. Graphics - It's a game, not a fucking movie.

i dont know why they rant off like its satan incranate and it murdered their mom... but i have 2 things against (i have at least 2 things against everything) 1, the wii mote thing. they could have done a better job of it, i usually point at person A and the wii will think i meant to point to the floor (and person A is to the left of me)2, there isnt any good games. okay there was a few, but they have some issues with getting a few good games out in each batch of crap. oh and people seem to think casual gamers is the next worst thing to a zombie-robot-lion-laser-alien-thing apocalypse... god where did i get that from?

Are you suggesting that the other consoles are immune to poorly implemented controls, sub-par games, and terrible graphics? Believe me- they are not.

I think that the only games that live beyond 5/6 months of continuous play are tournament games (Smash Brothers, Halo, the like) and MMOs, so you quite possibly have played single games with more time value than that. But to assume all games will last you that long is, quite frankly, fantasy.

Where the fuck are you getting that statistic? Because last time I checked, unless you're buying all of the dreaded, hated, and feared "casual" games, you don't need ANY of them.

I own fifteen Wii titles and the only peripherals I have acquired are a spare racing wheel (for Mario Kart) and the Wii Motion+. All the guns and stuff are just there for fun; fun that you aren't required by law to pay for.

It was a joke... Just trying to put a fun little emphasis on the amount of extra controllers that the Wii seems to have.

the wii sell to mainly 2 types of people.
1. the casual gamer/the kid.
2. the Nintendo fan, who, endures waiting for months and years for the few games that he really lives for to come out, and will play them to death ,only the to wait for the next game.and thay don't care how long thay have to wait.

as a category 2 person, I don't care what other people think about the wii, as long as I get to play the new lengend of zelda game thats comeing out in 2 years time.

No I am not suggesting other consoles are immune to it. They just don't have a solid trail of it throughout their entire history. Don't talk to me like I'm an idiot thanks, it's called opinion, and I'm hardly pulling it out of my arse hole.

I was mainly referring to Oblivion and the like (so none of the games or genres you listed). And for you to assume I said or even implied that all games would last that long is, quite frankly, fantasy.

Just to throw it out there I'm mainly a PC gamer, I dabble with my 360 from time to time and, like I said, I owned a Wii for about a year.

What we want is for this innovation to be put to some actual use (hard core titles).

The only reason I would not like motion control is if it cannot be put to good use to create hard core games (shaking you rist in Mario Galaxy doesn't count). If the lack of hard core titles is the result of lack of demand and not any inherent problem with the wii-mote itself I would then have a problem with the consumers and not with the wii itself.

I'm kinda getting tired about the next "new" FPS that's always seems to be coming out.

Not that there's anything wrong with them, I love Team Fortress 2. But I need something ELSE every so often.

Something like... oh, wait. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Super_Mario_Bros._Wii]
