Nah, I kid, I don't hate Supes. I just don't think he alone is really interesting to read when I can have Hal Jordan for the same price.

Funny people seems to think Supes is overpowered. I don't think anyone here know's what the Flash can do. The Flash is basically a god. He doesn't have to eat, Can go forever, etc.
Since when doesn't the Flash have to eat? He's a human who gained the ability to move faster, in what way is that supposed to influence his nutrition?
I think they ret-conned it so he has some sort of connection to an extra-dimensional speed force entity that was created due to a crease in Hyper Time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_Force Wikipedia can hopefully explain it better than I can explain it.

Go read the DC wiki about the Flash.

Yey, yes, I know that. But still he is generally a human.

I really like modern Superman. In days of yore, he was a one-dimensional Marty Stu, but nowadays he's an interesting character. What would it be like to have a person on Earth who is purely good and incredibly powerful?

I think the main issue I take with Superman is that he is a near perfect character, at least personality wise. Now I'll admit that I've seen the movies and only read a few of comics, he comes across as being a little too good. He's a character that has flaws that are not really flaws, he never has inner conflict with what he does.

Also the whole 'Alien' thing doesn't really count because he was brought up like a normal human so it's a litte null and void here.

Kal-El was adopted by the Kents, so his true persona is largely that of Clark Kent - unless he is asked to make some dispassionate moral choice that no human would ever be put in the onerous position to make. When he eventually leaves Smallville his powers develop fully as he is no longer surrounded by meteor rocks. He invents the alter-ego Superman partly as a role model, but also pragmatically to avoid being repeatedly sued for massive amounts of property damage.

The powers are just a sideshow for the kiddies - the real story is the weird love triangle that frustratingly develops:

- Kal-El (aka Clark Kent) loves Lois Lane

- Lois Lane adores Superman

- Superman can't be seen to reciprocate his feelings towards Lois Lane, as he has to be seen to love all humanity equally without preference

The threat of exposure, or his wish to reveal the truth about his secret identity to the love of his life is as much a recurring theme as kryptonite.

This is why Smallville was such a successful TV series, as it shifted narrative focus onto the parts that explored character dynamics.

Did someone say "overpowered" and superman? Nevar =P

I don't like the character because I feel it isn't a well developed character/badly developed character.

you and all the other people who have said basically the same thing obviously don't read many of his comics
I've no issue with him being "super" thats the premise. I just don't like the unrealistic way the character is handled.

Even in "The Dark Knight Returns" it basically mocks superman for not being a real person, and more of a pet, or subservient to his ideal of "right" and "just".

My real main issue with the character is that superman just seems a little well... lacking in intelligence. It may be possible he has no imagination like Steven Kings gunslinger Roland.

Responsibility is a big plot hole in the character superman. He claims to be good and just, bit if he is taking that stance, then every life lost to violence, poverty and disaster is his fault, through inaction. Like I said though, maybe the guys isnt that bright.
And I'll say again you people don't read enough of his comics

Superman has the problem that, bar one weakness, he can do EVERYTHING. That means, all the crime, villany, etc, is because he is sitting on his arse doing nothing about it.
That and he's got as much depth as a piece of paper.

The reason most people who hate him seem to hate him is that he is "overpowered" but he hasn't even been the most powerful member of the Main DC earths superhero line up since The Specter emerged. Everyone Seems to like Dr.Manhattan, and he is practically a demigod.
For one simple reason:

He's too good. Impervious to all harm, Insanely strong, Lightning quick, all the standard check-boxes for "super-human" whilst at the same time being completely and utterly "good".

Seriously, everything he does (barring of course rediculous kryptonite infections) is moral, and good and just and bleeergh.

Dr. Manhattan is liked as a character as it's far more... "realistic" for lack of a better word... for how an individual would act with the power of a 'god'. He becomes detached, aloof, bored with humanity. You can see why he would do what he does, even if you couldn't empathise. Superman is just good, too good, for no discernable reason.
