It does not bother me that other people in different countries hate the United States. It does bother me when they generalize and stereotype everyone in the United States. If it is a joke than I can understand, but when people are serious about it is when I get annoyed. Mainly because I hate the idea of being grouped into a generalization.

We have a lot to be greatful to the Americans for. I.e WWII and the cold war. It's important that we don't forget that. However, in recent times I think it's the Us foreign policy and general attitude that has people angry the states. War for oil did not go down very well. Also the fact that the religious right seems to have an awfull lot of political power over there. A lot of people in Europe especially us here in the uk consider that to be very backward and dangerous. The fact that you have enough nukes to destroy the world ten times over gos hand in hand with the potrayal over here in the media of the average American beeing overweight, unimformed, having the general inteligence of a house brick and with the gung ho attitude of a very angry caveman. I know a lot of very cool and clever and rational Americans and think this is a very unfair assesment. However you can't deny that they are out there. The fact that there was a political motion to teach creationism in American schools if McCain got in was one of the things that personaly scared me the most. Thats my opinion for this thread anyway.

Well considering the fact that I currently have "You're a grand old rag" by Bill Murray (Not that one) stuck in my head (Fun Fact: It's actually the song playing on the gramophone at the end of the Bioshock: Infinite teaser) whilst eagerly anticipating my trip to the Grand old US of A at the end of the year I'd like to think it's jealousy.

But realistically I think it's simply because of their tendency to have the biggest boots and considering how highlighted their cliches and stereotypes are people who haven't experienced the real America can easily find alot of things to poke fun at.

Biggest probably as in biggest impact on the economy, biggest user of resources, biggest military, richest too. But the rich still can get into debt, and when you use 1/3 of the world's resources used every year and only have a twentieth of it's population, fingers are going to be pointed some time...

Because we're the ones some envy - we have money, food, cars, fuel, and an okay government.

money: only 10% of the population have money, 99.5% are low class and the .5% middle class are practically nonexistent.

food: farms are disappearing from america. more food is being imported. doesn't make you any money either.

cars: we are losing the "american" cars. the ones we do have suck and are constantly being recalled. all the luxury cars everyone imagine Americans having are foreign made.

fuel: we don't have enough farms to try ethanol and our oil reserves have been disappearing since the 60s-70s. most of the oil is foreign.

okay government: we have debt and either corrupt or incompetent politicians.

moneyur "lower class" has more money then most other countries middle or high classes so yeah we have money

food: we get our own meat and all our weat is grown here.

fuelk we only need foreign oil because of EPA acts we have more oil in alaska then anyone preveously though but cant drill it.

Okay government: ARE WE RULED BY A DICTATOR? DO WE NOT HOLD ELECTIONS EVERY 4 YEARS? we are doing very well mind you i think every member of congress should be thrown out of office and replaced with regular people who arnt politicians but thats just me.


Now for all you ignorent people out there who have posted such great things like "this post shows how stupid you people are" understand this you dont know enoth about our country to realy judge us and by the act of makeing this thread i have tried with honesty to understand your ignorent hatred for us as a whole. Now this does not aplly to those of you who have come with valid arguments that i can at the very least see your point of veiw.
