Why do you care?

To clarify on the topic: Why do you care about... anything? Religion, ideals, favorite ice cream flavor, ANYTHING! Why do people argue and not let others just have their opinions about stuff? You tell me, why do YOU care enough to try to convince others that you are right? (I'm not talking about convincing others of facts, personal ideals being discussed here.)

I don't argue to get people to believe, I tell them and let them think about the right answer themselves.

Or in the matter of opinion, if they'd try the idea or item out.

Obviously to either sate my constantly parched ego, or I know it to be right. Sometimes both.

If no variables stated are filled in, I certainly do not give a crap.

Because I feel like it.

Why else would you do anything? What better reason could there be for me doing it?

I mostly argue when people don't understand why I believe in something or enjoy something. I just try to convey my ideas so they can see my point of view and understand why I like this or that.

Generally I don't go out of my way to forcibly convert people to my view point. It's mostly not worth the effort and the flame war.
However, should I come across someone posting from a position of fortified ignorance, then I do tend to sally forth as it were. But if it looks like it's going to be a drawn out struggle that's just going to end up going round and round, getting less and less relevant I tend to just leave them to it.

Some personal ideals are considered facts by most people who argue about them as if there is no alternative. Just the way the world turns.

I have many ideals, there are some that I consider to be right (for example, I am vehemently against gun control and consider it a matter of facts and the ideal of freedom and thus have very little respect for those who support gun control despite these facts and ideals). Everyone has ideals and beliefs like this. While I would disagree with them, I'm sure many of the more militant religious folk out there consider it to be a matter of facts rather than a matter of faith.

I don't. Everyone is obviously entitled to their opinion in subjective matters. In topics covering those areas, I post my opinion, and then tend to leave others to it; the only time I'll actually argue over a point is if someone argues against my opinion in the first place.

I care and argue because you are wrong! Yes, you. You know who you are.

Honestly, I'm content to let people have their own opinions. I'll enjoy my entertainment and they can enjoy theirs. Though, I'm all for a spirited discussion about those things. I actually enjoy trying to work out what will happen next in a story and that debate can be real interesting.

I don't why. Probably because people feel that their opinion or beliefs are true and cannot get past someone having an alternative point of view, as the thought that someone may have the opposite opinion do them has never occurred to them until the moment they heard of it. Or probably because some people just like to argue the toss about everything.

Whatever the reason I tend to avoid discussions of religion/ideologies now because they tend to just degrade into a pointless argument at a moments notice. A shame because on the rare occasions an actual discussion on those topics happens they can be very informative and enjoyable.

Unless people actually thrust upon me their religious beliefs I generally let them be. Also if what they are saying is categorically wrong, "the world is 6000 years old." etc.

I do not like sitting on the fence and think the world would be a more boring place if people did. Debating ideas of anything makes good conversation.

Because I'm right and anyone who questions that should be put in The Box.

Since I am so benevolent, I take it upon myself to educate the unenlightened masses with my superior mind. The world is a confused place, in which there are some people who (believe it or not) disagree with me, and I have a moral obligation to show them the error of their ways.

I try to look for new perspectives, and maybe educate people. It's scary how little people know about something that's dear to them. I might not sway everyone, but both learn things in the process. I want the world to be better, basically. I care because I have the ability, and since someone has to.

"Everyone's entitled to their own opinion as long as mine is right", as one friend of mine put it.

Because I want to care, I guess. I never really thought about it. I care when someone isn't emotionally moved by music because I think they're dead inside. I care if someone's a creationist because I worry they might be braindead.
I realise that doesn't answer the question, though... I guess emotions make me care. Something pisses me off or gets me excited and elicits an emotional response from me.

I don't, most of the time. I only care when it directly affects me, for obvious reasons.
