On www.discussions.playnet.com i've got over 12,000 posts (you won't be able to see it due to subscription required) so I've got my nice little place to hang out.GeorgW said:If you want a smaller, more personal community, try the pubclub forums. As for the layout, I love it as well, so can't help you there.
Oh, you'd be looking towards the user groups or forum games then. The user groups are pretty much mini forums for little groups of friends, and there's a few sunken forum games still haunted by a small, scary, creepy community. Lovely chaps. :3retterkl said:With the huge amount of people on here I just can't imagine any decent back and forth conversation having or threads you can get personally attached to.GeorgW said:If you want a smaller, more personal community, try the pubclub forums. My god, is that annoying on other forums. That and uhhhh....happenstance?MiracleOfSound said:No signatures
Pretty much this. I found these forums from being introduced to Zero Punctuation (like many others I assume) because they were on the same page as the video. I used to always look at IGN for gaming news, now I come here first. I only use IGN for reviews now. And I can't be bothered looking for other forums.Player Two said:a) People are not, unlike a great deal of gaming forums, assholes. They are capable of generating intelligent responses and reasonable debate. They're funny, too.
b) It's attached to the magazine, so you get threads about all the videos and articles
c) The threads are listed on the side, so I don't have to go trawling through forums and sub-forums to find interesting topics - I just pick the ones that sound interesting when I'm passing by.
d) Occasionally a regular asshole enters the forum, and is subsequently savaged by hilariously sarcastic replies.
Well, it's more about the users themselves than the forums. We have people here with 60k posts that have been here 1 or 2 years, and have some that have been here for 5 years and has less than 100. As for the personal touch, I'd recommend groups. It's hard to find the right one for you, but maybe asylum? That's a lot like the thread you described. Also, there are parts of the forums that are a lot less crowded, just this place is the biggest one so you may be in the wrong place. Maybe forum games? Also, try the IRC, it's a lot more relaxed.retterkl said:On www.discussions.playnet.com i've got over 12,000 posts (you won't be able to see it due to subscription required) so I've got my nice little place to hang out.GeorgW said:If you want a smaller, more personal community, try the pubclub forums. I can understand that the first forums you come to can be the ones that you want to stick with though. Although having said i've got 12,000 posts on the other forum (since April 07) it does occur to me that most people posting here who say it's their only forum only have a couple thousand posts, which isn't actually very much, so I guess it's just a different type of forum in general.
With the huge amount of people on here I just can't imagine any decent back and forth conversation having or threads you can get personally attached to. We have a 'We need this thread to reach 1,000,000 pages' thread on my forums, but after 5 years we're only up to about 3,500. However the thread actually feels like a room where you can walk into and be greeted by friends who know you and you can have a laugh with. I've got ~700 posts in that thread alone, more then a lot of people have in total on here, and I just can't imagine such a monolith of a thread occuring here that I could care about as much.
So yeah, mabye I just have high standards for what I think a forum should be, and this is much more casual then what i'm used to(Wow I feel so epically nerdy basically describing myself as a hardcore forumer)
I find your lack of faith disturbing...retterkl said:Yeah but I did join before you :SiLikeHippos said:You're not a *gasp* regular? HERETIC!
