I am curious to find out all the reasons why we game? Why so many of us would rather sit in a semi-comfy chair and participating in a world that doesn't even truly exist when there is so much out that front door.

Stress relief, pure and simple. After a day of doing my job it's nice to be able to come home and shoot someone in the face. Without, you know, getting arrested for it.
Quite simple really-
To have fun (to avoid boredom).
To pass the time.
To escape reality (although this exist elsewhere like watching TV or reading comicbooks).

To immerse myself in a world in which I can do things that I can't do in reality. To be someone entirely different from myself.

More on topic... I like the escapism, the stories, the fun of it all. For me, gaming is like an interactive book that tests my reflexes and strategy. It engages my imagination (like a book) while still being able to make my jaw drop with visual beauty. There's nothing quite like gaming, really.
That's not to say that I don't do other things... I spend time outdoors, I read, I write, I spend time with friends. But gaming still holds a special place in my heart. It gives me a sort of entertainment something that nothing else can.

I started to game more when TV started to become shit. There is a direct correlation between the amount of reality shows on TV and the amount of time I spend gaming.
It's a bit of a hobby for me. It's good stress relief, and good fun too, so yeah.Zack Alklazaris said:

EDIT: Also, much like someone else has stated above, the places I sit whilst gaming almost make me want to sleep rather than kill people in a virtual world sometimes.

No, but quite simply it's because I enjoy them. Games come in all ways, shapes and forms, they can be enjoyed in completely different ways and fit a lot of moods, for example right now I'm quite stressed out, so I'm just enjoying some Pokémon. The contents of the games vary a lot as well, some games are just complete and mindless bollocky fun with nothing to be learned and everything to be enjoyed. Some come with content that can change my views on things, perhaps I can even learn something from them, while still enjoying them. Just because your brain has to work doesn't make it less enjoyable, if you're in the right mood it makes it even more fun.
It's one of my main interests in life, along with drawing, and I do aspire to one day work as a concept artist.

There's more inside videogames than there is outside. We live in one world and games have so many different worlds. If I didn't game I would probably spend that time reading, but it's a lot easier for me to find a good game than a good book. Not to mention I have the hardest time understanding society so I just tend to avoid it as much as I can.
