Why do you hate pro-wrestling?

It's boring, and it sells itself as reality. I hate things that sell themselves as reality, but are blatantly false. Movies don't sell themselves as truth, they sell themselves as enjoyable fiction.

I don't like it, the fans I've met are annoying (they believe it's real, they believe that they can beat up people because they watch it etc.), the associated games are pretty bad (it's a genuine reason, I like F1 less because of the associated games, why can't I dislike something more because of it's games?), I find the acting terrible, the characters are generally douches.

I also don't like UFC, so maybe it's related. But I enjoy watching (what I consider to be) real contact/martial sports (judo, muay thai, boxing.).

I don't know if you consider those to be legitimate answers but the first one (just because) is a pretty darn hard one to dispute.

EDIT: Oh, and it's really, really, really, reeeeeeeeeeally camp.

As in, camper than elves and such.

I think it's because they take themselves too seriously, while not having a high enough production value. Make it more interesting and make sure everyone takes a grain of salt, and I think you could do some really fun stuff with wrestling. It's just that they don't do that, it's all about some guys being dumb and taking themselves seriously, then not actually beating each other up. Give me an interesting story, and a less stupid way to stick the not-fighting in, and I'd watch it as an alternative to whatever other similar tripe is on tv.

I think it's boooooooring.
If I wanted to see two guys beat the shit out of each other I'd just wait outside one of the local pubs.

I used to love it as a kid. I stopped watching it around the time I was 13, just finding the overall storylines, acting and wrestling to be overtly and hilariously camp. I don't hate it, I'm just indifferent.

And yet poor actors are criticized if their portrayal is not suitably real, or if it is too obvious they are acting or if they are just playing themselves, not the character etc.

So you never watch a movie that's 'based on a true story' then? Or one of the ones that claims to be the 'true story' of King arthur/Robin Hood/insert fictional character here? Or reenact x hitorical battle/event?

Man you must not watch a lot of movies. :p

I hate how it gone from a really fast paced unexpected product into something bland, predictable and overly kid friendly. I also can't stand how they only use like 8 people all year long while there's like 20+ guys in the back that only do dark matches and arena events. Years back everybody even the low tier guys got decent rivalries, matches and used on the main shows.

The only thing i like about wrestling is i think its absolutely hilarious in just how bad their acting is, it always keeps me laughing.

I watch UFC if i want real entertainment.

It's too loud, too boistereous and too crude for my taste. And this is not coming from someone who particularly enjoys movies like that.

The storylines are stupid and dull, and the acting is so laughably horrible that, if it were trying to be a legit movie, it would be a box office flop.

All the "characters" seem to do is blow out their front teeth, and that's just annoying.

And I could forgive all of that, really, if it weren't for the fact that everyone on those shows lies, cheats, and steals. Even the so-called good guys. Who the heck am I supposed to be routing for? They're all unlikable pricks. And really, little kids are watching this, and if their idol does all that an more, what kind of a message is that sending to the kids?
you should try watching something other than TNA then, cause that's not really true of faces in the wwe not named randy orton.

I personally love pro wrestling, with a deep passion. I really, really do. Watch it every week and love it. Love everything about it.

The main criticism I hear is "well the fights are pre-determined so I can't enjoy it" which to me just stinks of bullshit. I have nothing against you if you feel this way, but to me personally it's such a bullshit argument. Aside from stuff like MMA and UFC and other such things of that nature, every fight you see in media is pre-determined.

And how does them knowing the winner change anything, if YOU don't know the winner? That's why I try to avoid spoilers for wrestling just like everything else. Any fight gets dull if you know who wins, which is why even pre-determined fights are still enjoyable if you don't know who the winner will be. The fact that some people will know the winner beforehand shouldn't effect your enjoyment of it at all, it just shouldn't.

Plus people need to learn the difference between "fake" and "scripted". Yes, the stories and the match outcomes are scripted. The important thing? Only the match ending and certain important spots within it are planned out beforehand. The rest the guys going at it need to work out on the fly, as they go. In front of thousands of people live. And many more watching on TV.

Add to that the fact that while it is scripted, that shit hurts. No matter how much scripting goes into it, being picked up by a very strong man and thrown onto the floor is going to fucking hurt, no matter what. So people who insult wrestlers for performing in 'fake fights' need to shut up and get a clue. Pro wrestlers put themselves through more pain than you could probably take without crying.

Also, there's the little business of "they have to stay in character". You wanna try playing a part in front of thousands while you're being hit, thrown around, slammed and launched through tables, off ladders etc?

There's a big difference between "selling itself as reality" and "obeying their own rules". What you call selling itself as being real I call 'playing along with itself'. It'd be pretty shit if the commentators sat there going "and Cena throws a couple of pretend right hands while stomping the mat to simulate the noise, and now his opponent is going to jump into the air to simulate Cena picking him up in a body slam".

i dont like it because the one time i tried to watch it they spent like 1 hour talking about how much they hate each other, and im like if i wanted to see a soap opera i would watch general hospital with my mom

not to mention that i dont like things that lie to you, no one ever claims that movies and tv shows are supposed to be real, wrestling however is fake despite them setting it up to be and acting like its a real fight going on

UFC and MMA are better

oh and theres the whole men wrestling and getting all sweaty in ultra revealing outfits that i dont like, its ok when women do it, but when men who appear to just be wearing speedos wrestle supposedly for our entertainment i have a problem

but i guess thats just this annoying little thing we call HETEROSEXUALITY

TNA is owned by the WWE. TNA is basically the WWE's farm system. They won't admit it until they have the giant TNA vs. WWE storyline at the end of this year, but it is true.
The sad thing is, it's credible. If that news broke tomorrow, I can't honestly say I would be completely surprised.[/quote]

also, first, source on TNA being owned by wwe? If they were owned by wwe their talent would probably be treated at least slightly better. Also TNA doesn't really work as a farm system for wwe, in fact it'd be far more accurate to say that TNA is where wwe stars go when they're washed up.

Actually considering the amount of macho straight men who watch it, it's not a heterosexuality thing, it's an insecurity thing. That's my first instinct at least. I'm probably wrong, but I've encountered such attitudes before and it's just my immediate assumption.

Sorry if I'm wrong, I mean no offence of any kind.

Though it's not exactly easing watching it as a gay dude either. The amount of times I've been told "you only watch it for the half-naked men" is enough that I'm considering just punching whoever says it from this point forward.

It's boring, it's stupid, and it's broadcast at insane hours here. Plus big sweaty men rubbing themselves against eachother in their undies is a bit too festive for my tastes.

My dad watches all of it. TNA, WWE, all of it. And my opinion remainns unchanged. It all hits me about like this. We quite literally have wrestling on almost every single night of the week, and it all is the same to me. I see no difference in the factions.

I have many reasons to hate it, but most of all, it glorifies fighting. I don't think there is anything glorious or honorable in fighting and if you resort to it, you're forced to it and just plain defend yourself.
...are you one of those people who thinks that all problems can be solved "non violently" by "using your words"? because thats the second stupidest thing anyone could believe, the stupidest is "world peace"

i dont want to watch men barely wearing clothes rolling around on each other and getting sweaty, its really gay, it'd be fine if they were really fighting but since no one actually gets hurt and they arent really fighting its really really gay
