I don't hate all three of them.

Episode 1 was okay.
I did hate Episode 2
I enjoyed Episode 3. If it was a bit better, it probably would have redeemed the series completely.

The dialogue and plot were kind of lacking in all three. This showed through worst in Episode 2, and seemed most forgiveable in Episode 3. The first one at least felt like a Star Wars movie on a superficial level.

Anakin is a pretty awful in all three movies, which is a shame since he's one of the big names of the series. They kind of ruined the story with that alone, because this is all about Anakin's fall to the Dark Side. And I just didn't care, because I hated the character.

Obi-Wan is poorly written and seems to sometimes play the role of Qui-Gon Jinn, as though they forgot he wasn't in the other prequels and they needed to slap the orphan dialogue on someone.

The Jedi as a whole are stupid. Worse so, they seem to be stupid for no good reason.

Amidalla's as bad as Anakin.

Almost every potential long-term villain is killed too quick.

Espisode 3 seems rushed, and I mostly blame Episode 2 for dragging.

Also I find it funny that there are atheists who are upset about the Force coming from microorganisms and not being some mystical energy while I, a monotheist, am fine with it.
movies don't have to adhere to our reality where magic isn't real
Atheists generally get pissed off by psudo science bullshit that doens't fit into a world of science fantasy
Medichlorians made someones strenght in the force a number, not something you acheive or gain or wisdom or enlightenment.
They didn't retcon needing training and all that though, it's not like he was born with Jedi abilities.
yeah he still needs training but it's still annoying to see innate mystiscim stats (more than simply 'the force is strong with you'[and honestly they could have done that and it would have fit just as well and we wouldn't need to have this conversation.][and they didn't need to go with the 'chosen one' aspect either! If someone told me Hitler [sub]godwins law[/sub] was the second coming of Christ it wouldn't have made what he did any more tragic than it already was]). Back on track they say he has more midochlorians then Yoda, therefore eventually he will be more attuned to the force than Yoda, they can check the blood of a kid and find out he's going to be better than the best guy whos 800. He's not particularlly wise, he's just a kid, but we know one day he will be more powerful than anyone. It just takes the wonder out of it all.

i hear what you all are saying, but you have to admit, beyond the characters and the midichlorians, the story is quite good, and some of the action scenes were spectacular. and it did improve! episode I was alright, episode II was pretty good, and episode III was on par with the original trilogy (at least on par with episode VI). you guys need to stop remembering how awesome you thought the very first movie was and enjoy these additions for what they were, entertainment.

...I liked Episodes 2 & 3. 1 will always be a crock of shit, but I can safely say that aside from going in the wrong direction by making everything CG, bad acting, and vomit-inducing dialogue, each of the prequels brought at least one thing worthy to add to the canon.

Episode 1 had Darth Maul. Just. That. Good stuff for me there. :)

Episode 2 has the Clones and Jango Fett. Plus, Christopher Lee! :D

Episode 3 has an epic, if not slightly overpowered fight on Mustafar, an we got to see all those lightsaber-wielding fuckwads die! :DD

I love the original trilogy, Empire being my favorite, and I think the original slow-paced fighting was a lot better, as was the grit of actual locations for the scenes. But, I'm not going to dismiss what is now canon just because I disagree with it. Hell, if that were the case, Boba Fett would never have fallen into the Sarlaac and he would have killed everyone and their mother in that scene, including the main characters. RotJ would then conclude with Boba drop-kicking the Death Star 2, causing it to fall onto Endor, killing those fucking teddy-bears once and for all.

they were badly written, badly acted, badly directed

They were clearly made for toy sales, which seems to be putting the cart in front of the horse.. sure, it's not the first franchise to do that, but NONE of them would have been successful if they didn't have skilled writing etc. to fall back on.

They're just really really bad movies. My hatred for them is because they are bad.

Whoever was in charge of the original saga's storyline (and it CLEARLY wasn't george lucas) has left Lucas Arts years ago, or is so henpecked by lucas that he stopped speaking out against his decisions years ago
