I've only watched a select few (Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, just a bit of Bleach), but I don't really see how people don't like it. I mean, sure, there are sucky shows out there, but I don't mind the style, and neither do I mind the cultural differences.

I mean, Samurai Jack was critically acclaimed, and it was basically a Japanese epic in terms of style.

Just my opinion though.

I don't.
I used to, when I was ten, but then I grew out of it.

Besides, there are a lot of people at my school who like anime, and all of them are really weird. They all dress up in black; they make weird expressions with their faces, kind of like they are trying to emulate what anime characters do; and some of them even meow. I'm not kidding, they just randomly meow, because they think it's "anime" or whatever.

I'm sure that you're not all like that though?

Not sure. I mostly like anime for it's higher qualities in story telling and design. And let's be honest with ourselves; when was the last time you saw a good western animation show? No, not alright, not interesting, I mean GOOD.

That's what I thought.

With anime you have a higher chance of Tits coming out and explosions happening within a short time of one another,
and I sometimes legitimately enjoy the thought of me suddenly getting a giant robot with a buxom navigational AI, or finding that out I inherited a maid/warrior woman android (with huge knockers) from an eccentric relative, or that through some loop-hole in the college computers that I end up living in a women's dorm filled with pin-up models, and

...

I just realized that a good chunk of anime has its hijinks revolve around women, tits, and teenage males reactions to the former.

In all seriousness, I like it because an occasional series can sneak a message of finding true love, social alienation, finding paths to enlightenment, troubles of modern living, mysticism, and other good stuff in between the explosions, the yelling, and the tit jokes.

Thats what got me out of it, and probably some of the main reasons i dislike anime.

people who act/dress in an anime fashion.

k, got a few examples here.

One thing that gets me is miis on the check mii out channel (i know its kinda stupid but) I can't stand all the people who try to make miis that have anime eyes and cat ears. I just dont like it.

Another one is once i wached a few episodes of something about some girl Haruhi? i think who like started a club at a boarding school who used this shy girl's boobs to gain attention. That just grosses me out that some people like that (trying not offend anyone here)

AND....
years ago when naruto moved to good old fashioned America, people started wearing hidden leaf village headbands in public. After seeing every kid in between the ages of 10-16 wear a headband, i asked myself: Why are you apart of this?

Kick ass fight scenes and fan service~! (Also, for the lulz when available)

When my mind wanders, I tend to start choreographing fight scenes in my head. Sometimes physically possible, some times only the sort you'd find in anime (but, always awesome). Watching anime sort of helps me gain new input to include, or tells me how the sorts of things I think of would hold up.
As for the fan service...What guy doesn't like a little bit of that now and then? :p

Yeah, I remember those headbands. They were fucking retarded. Everyone knows that the village hidden in the mist was better.
That's my main reason I stay away from anime; a lot of it's fans are a bit funny in the head.

After watching the 'classics' and all the yaoi I could get my hands on, my enthusiasm towards it has kind of waned, since all that's left to me these days are magical, underage harem type affairs. It's skim pickings out there.

I think I see the problem.

OT: Anime can really have anything it wants. It can be incredibly deep and meaningful (for example: Evangelion or Clannad), or it can be just for entertainment (Bleach, Naruto). But the best part of anime to me is probably the characters. The characters in anime are just as well written as the characters in any famous novels. And they can definitely be more relateable and likeable.

I like anime because it's expressive. Despite the sometimes simple nature of its art (for example Azumanga Daioh), it conveys a lot, quickly. The big wide eyes, silly hair, and other tropes of Japanese animation might be pangalactic gargleblasters of subtlety, but it's done earnestly and with the point of engaging the viewer. I find that it works, so I enjoy it - others may not. Their call.

I originally got into anime about 10 years to ago to this day to take my mind off just being dumped by a now ex girlfriend as she got rid of me just after new years 2000.

It's something fresh, different and can have so many genres to the point of a good portion of live action movies nowadays can have similar animes in terms of characters and plots if that makes sense.

However in recent years I've not seen much of anything new really. It seems to be the usual output of long running sagas getting their odd new episode now and again, they know who they are :p I just prefer shows that have a min of 2 seasons with about 12-24 episodes within each one.

I am thinking about getting Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne when it's finally released here on dvd, something different at least compared to what gets put out nowadays (as in I don't download oddly enough, wouldn't dare after what happened to ADV)

I tend to watch sort of classic or original anime/manga and I watch them because I like the unusual stories and quirky characters. Granted I watch most of them with subs, because most dubs loose the characters nature in translation.

One I got into recently was the series .hack//sign. A classic anime, set in an MMOG called the world.

I guess the reason I like it so much is due to its setting. But the actual story and character made delve deeper into series and made me want to return to watching it.

If you enjoyed naruto and found the complexity a bit to daunting, you should try watching some of the traditional anime.

Its entertaining, different......appealing to my eyes?
Its just another form of media.
Its just that it tends to do many different things, it has a unique way of expressing emotions, and there is something for Everyone to watch.
You just gotta sort through the good and the bad.
And whats good and whats bad differs from person to person.

Like currently, i thought this season was kinda bad/meh.
Mostly Moe kawaii desuuuuuuuuuuu~ shows and Harems....Hares everywhere.
Luckily this upcoming winter season looks like its gonna have a nice mix of genres.
And hopefully some Ecchi Free Anime.
Seriously, its kinda getting outta hand.
