It helps me socialize with my friends and keep in touch, share pictures and talk y'know.

It's useful for social networking. I don't particularly love it, but I gotta say it comes in handy for a few things. The greatest use I have for it, is being able to contact classmates at my college about assignments and the like. I'd never be able to do it otherwise because I'm a bit shy when it comes to talking to people so it really comes in handy. It's also good for planning parties and events, and getting the invitation out there -- and for photo sharing and posting for events it's really handy too.

Though if you're looking for a site that you can get some privacy on... I'd have to say facebook is not the place for you. D:

I don't use it.

Wow, seems the escapists don't like it in general, we are much more the same than what I had originally thought.

I hate Facebook but I have a serious apprehension towards phones so it's the only way I can keep contact with my friends and family.

It helps keep up with friends as we all spread out across the world. I don't see how people don't get this. I have friends in China, friends in Africa, and friends just all over the place in the US. It's what happens after college, and it saves a bunch of long distance calls.

If you hate social networking, why are you on a forum?

What?! Failbook is awesome! But I think you meant Facebook, which I can forgive you for not liking, even though I personally love it.

I know I sound like an advert. But most of the people who moan about facebook are either doing it to be different or because their feeds get "overloaded" (in which case just unfriend that person or hide their posts from appearing on your feed, ditto with applications like Farmville - just block it).
Implying the only people who need facebook to communicate either have no real friends or is a terrible friend.
On the contrary. I don't know about you, but if I was trying to contact a large group of my friends for, say, a party. Then it would cost me a lot of time and effort trying to organise everything on a person-by-person basis. Sure, if I wanted to speak to individual people, such as my best or closest friends, I'd make the effort to see them in person, send them an e-mail, call them (or whatever). But when talking to a large amount of people or people you don't know that well, it's often far easer to send them a message/invite on facebook.

Also, I did say most people, so not necessary you. I knew there'd be one.
