Magic.

Better lore, even though the lore is shit compared to Morrowind.

Magic.

Less brown and gray.

Magic.

Love both games, asking to choose the best game is silly.

Oh, how much I hate vs. threads.

Wasn't a VS thread. It was a question.

I like Fallout 3 a heck of a lot more, mainly because the combat in Oblivion was a bit shit. Also, having the enemies level up with you almost exactly made leveling a bit redundant. Still, at the time the game wowed me with it's open world.

Incidentally, can someone remind me which mods (for FO3 and Oblivion respectively) improve the leveling systems? You know, so the enemies don't level up the same as you?
This one? http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25276

EDIT: And this, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2518

Most people don't.

A lot of people prefer Morrowind to Oblivion..

but most people who are comparing Fallout 3 to Oblivion prefer Fallout 3, at least from what I've heard from people.

I haven't played Fallout 3 yet so I can't really compare them. The reason I like and still play Oblivion is because it is a great game in a good fantasy setting and new mods are created for it every day.

Asking questions like this will make the thread become one though.

EDIT: Bah, you made me insert my Fallout 3 disc in my PC again, darn you!

I don't have Oblivion on pc, but thanks anyway.

The leveling system still kinda pisses me off when I think about it. The moment I was finally strong enough to wipe the floor with those leopards, they get replaced with fucking Kodiak bears.

Fallout 3 is a complete bore. But then again, Oblivion is horrible buggy. I spent basically the whole game on a horse legging it from guards. They can follow you even if you're across the map... Yeah, that makes sense.

Can't blame you. Fallout 3 is pretty awesome, killing things with the Lincoln Repeater and the Experimental MIRV never gets old. Only shortcoming for me would be the giant cockroaches, ants and 'gray'.

I prefer Fallout 3, I found Oblivion - for all that it was strikingly gorgeous was an extremely frustrating game. Especially when goblin could hand you your ass in a fight when you were level 30+

I prefer Fallout 3 personally, I tried to get into Oblivion and it didn't hold me the same way as Fallout did. Not sure why tbh

Both games are excellent. But the reasons why I prefer Oblivion over Fallout 3 are that:
- Oblivion has so much more content, so many more hours of play then Fallout 3.
- You can continue playing after the main quest, plus the 4 major guilds in themselves have more play time that the Fallout 3 main quest.
- Oblivions game world is so much bigger and there are so many more quests and things to do.
- You actually need to train a skill to go up in it, not just level up and chose to direct skill points into areas, like you do in Fallout 3.
- No level capacity.
- A nicer, more immersive environment.
- Also, the scenary is beautiful and roaming the coutry side is so peaceful.

They are some of the reasons people prefer Oblivion over Fallout 3. Mind you, Fallout 3 is still an excellent game and the add-ons solve a few of it's problems, adding more quests and allowing you to play after finishing the main quest, etc.

I dont play either. Oblivionstyle giant world games bore me, they tend to be empty and you can easily get lost.

I actually prefer Morrowind over BOTH.. because it is clearly the superior game in terms of story, pacing and leveling.

Some people prefer high fantasy over a bad ass post-apocalyptic setting, that's all.

They like fairies.

I like the gameplay of oblivion better overall. The combat feels a lot more unique because it's a mixed bag of melee, archery, and the huge array of different spells that you shoot, punch, or use on yourself. Fallout basically just has guns and seldom used melee weapons. Sure there might be different weapons that splatter enemies diferent ways, but in the end the alien blaster and the handgun function the same way, and I've played at least a hundred games wherein you shoot enemies with guns in first person.

Plus, fallout has like, twice the amount of finicky "this shit broke/you have (x) health related issue/ you ran out of this" that oblivion already had way too much of, so you spend like, half the game in the inventory screen applying medical supplies, switching gear around, and fixing shit.

As far as setting and story, it really depends on what i feel like, though oblivion is a bit less realistic so I tend to lean towards that after the real world yields another boring/crappy day.

That's why I prefer oblivion, though both games are flat out amazing.
