Because I just can't seem to stop.
Seriously, I'm addicted. I spend damn near every waking moment on here, and I don't know why.

I like it because the people here seem to be intelligent, and they don't abbreviate unnecessarily ,there is very little "lol" and "u" "ur", I hate when people do that and people actually use punctuation in their posts. Some good conversations to be had here.

Cuz I'm bored of my life, in between manga updates. And in this place i sometimes find people i like, and then i enjoy making stupid topics and watching the mayhem ensue. Traceur knows wat i mean

i post on here because this community is more mature than the GT forums and while im watching unforgotten realms and zero, i read the forum post and if anything interests me i answer to it :)

its a nice community and essentially i post because of that reason

Because I NEED to get that Neo Badge!

And because I am often bursting with opinions like some sort of bursty thing.
It'd suck if you got hit by mod wrath something like 5 posts away 0.o

As for myself, this seems like a very mature (or at least well-moderated) forum & I like to pretend my opinion matters. Also another site to browse while bored ;).

Because I like the atmosphere and people here and you can have a good discussion, and its a place to post my reviews and get opinions on them.

Because the Nazi's who control the firewall at my work blocked Hulu, and most of the major video players.

Because I find Escapist posters are generally at a higher level than others and can actually think and reason. Not that everyone is at that level, but they get filtered out in the end. Plus I am extremely opinionated. I came here because of a friend who I played NWN online with found unforgotten realms and posted it on the server site since we DnD players would enjoy it. After I started reading the forums and wanting to put my own thoughts into the conversations I made a profile and here I am. I come here now usually before my CMP class, or like tonight between 4-6am and post in a sizable bulk.

I know what you mean, although "my own age" should be switched with "with similair interests". Enough people here of my age (in class at the minute, boring myself to death), but they're not interested in what I care about.
That, and utter boredom, I also have a lonely and dull life.

What sort of things are you interested in (and I've already guessed games, but correct me if I'm wrong)? Trying to help get rid of the boredom whilst you're stuck in class.

I work the 7 pm to 5 am shift and get bored here easily.

So posting on topics that interest me keep me from eating a gun.*

* Note: Actually, being married with a son on the way keeps me from eating a gun. Posting here helps keep me sane on extremely boring nights.

Usually when I am waiting for something to load or download I look around the escapist. Other times I am either bored or procrastinating.

Thanks for that :p And yes, indeed games, not so much nowadays (for some reason it has lost it luster, but maybe that's because of my overall depression) but L4D flared it up a bit. I also like anime and movies. I never really go to the cinema though, don't have the people for it (no one here cares about Watchmen). Most people also do not care about the books I like to read: Terry Pratchett, Doughlas Adams, things like that, or good stand-up comedy. I love humor, especially British humor and (duh :p) geek humor, but that sentiment is not shared here.
But the biggest 'problem', is that at heart, I'm more of a beta person: I love biology, nature in general, I'm a space-geek (love to watch stars at night, for example) and just science in general. Also alpha sciences like psychology and sociology, but generally more of the beta side. But the problem is that I'm doing Journalism, wich is more on the alpha side and not even really science. Ofcourse the obvious question would be "Why aren't you studying something scientific then?", well I for one I'm not allowed to. In the Dutch schoolsystem you have to choose a subject-profile when you're in highschool, basicly you've got the "society" (economic or culture) profile, and the "nature" (technical or health) profile. If you want to do something beta in college or university, you need the beta profile. Obviously I didn't choose the beta profile, for a very simple reason: I suck balls with numbers (getting a nature profile means getting higher math, physics and chemistry), a lót. So I was almost forced to choose a society profile, in other words the alpha side of things, wich means I'm limited to alpha side things at college (I can't go to university). Kinda sucks balls, loving beta, stuck at alpha. Hence why I'm not really with 'my people' here, I'm not at home, so to speak.
So that's my story, what's yours Geek@Heart (that'll keep you occupied for a while as well I guess :p)

Because while watching Yahtzee's videos, noticing those threads off to the side of the page and not being able to comment was driving me bonkers. By the "social shapeshifter" thread, I'd finally had enough, so I registered an account.

I stick around and post because it's interesting.
This.

Also, interstingly, it was seeing this thread over on the right that made me finally register to post. These reasons all look so good!

Okay, my story. Well, I was born in Wales but grew up in England. I've lived in the same town all the time since then (almost 16 years) and have always known the same people.

I've always been quite and shy, and good at maths/sciences. But I prefer the creative stuff - painting, acting, music etc. At school there was a lot of pressure to go into something maths/science based, because that was what I was good at, but I went for Art, Psychology and Business Studies and sucked at them. I ended up dropping out of school early because of stress, and getting a part time job at my old primary school.

Now I'm gradually trying to break down the assumptions that people have been making about me over the years. I've dyed my hair ginger, and I'm having it cut short next week. I'm losing weight, and changing my clothes. And I'm auditioning for drama school, to start in September.

It's good to hear that you're active, pursuing what you actually want instead of what's expected. Doesn't sound shy at all, rather ballsy if I might add ;-) I still think back, if I should've picked a nature profile, just do what I want instead of picking the easy way out, like you did (you've got my respect for that, at least you tried). Too late for that now though. Now I have no idea what I should do though. I obviously don't feel at home here (at school that is), but I've got no idea where I wóuld feel at home.

Yeah, I guess what I'm doing is pretty ballsy. What I mean is I get shy talking to people. I never know what to say.

And if you feel at home where you are, you could go to college/university in another country. You speak English well, so you could come over here. Or America, or, if you speak any other languages, there other countries to choose from.
