Why do you think there's such a huge population of metalheads here?

Ha! Most popular instrument nowadays is fucking autotune. No one uses those silly toys that take real skill to actually play, and play well.

I absolutely hate metal. I like jazz and classical music.
I thought Jazz died for a good reason. I can't stand what I've heard, but if Scatman John falls into Jazz then I can see why some people do.
Jazz didn't die, it just got less popular.

Just like metal did...
Pretty sure Jazz died. I've not heard a single jazz song on the radio, a single jazz band featured on the TV, hell you're the first person on the Escapist I've seen say they're a fan.

Jazz is most certainly less popular than Metal. :(
I've heard tons of jazz on the radio (mostly because I listen to college radio. And they like jazz.)

And then there's Michael Buble. Even his pop stuff is still jazz. I've been seeing a lot of jazz bands featured on the TV and in my local newspaper, but I've got a feeling that it depends where you live.

Jazz is also doing extremely strong in both movie soundtracks and OSTs for games.

And yes, while jazz is less popular than metal, it really doesn't matter, to be honest. Jazz isn't a job, it's more of a way of life.

Just curious. Most of the other forums I'm a member of has a much lower concentration. I'm not complaining since I do like a bit of metal myself, however.

So, Escapist, why do you think it is?
I think metal fans many times were the so called nerdy outcasts (which is hardly ever an accurate assumption about people), so maybe its just that. Not sure really.

Metal enhances certain games. I remember back in the day listening to Superbeast by Rob zombie while speeding in a semi truck (or dump truck? dunno, just a big fuckin truck) in GTA Vice City. It just felt right plowing through an express way playing that. Oddly if I listen to Amon Amarth or Hatebreed when playing Left 4 Dead 2 I get into a zen like rhythm with melee weapons and am damn near unstoppable. Gray matter everywhere.

I feel like I'm missing out now. I'm sure there is probably a lot of Jazz music I would enjoy.
I'm sure there is. Just like I do like some metal occasionally, if I'm in the right mood.

Because Metal is one of those superiorafag genres/group. I listen to some metal, but some people choose to let metal define them. That makes them stick out, how many people can you name that would go out of there way to call themselves Popheads.

i agree with you entirely but my personally i see autotune as a tool rather than an instrument. and i see few escapists using an autotune personally.
