I don't hate it but in my opinion it's not an improvement and it makes my eyes feel funny and my head dizzy, so I rather skip this trend and let rich people and hipsters throw their money in to this bottomless pit.
I'll divert to David Mitchells take on 3D as he puts it far more eloquently then I ever could. Enjoy the eye-strain.
3D is interesting, in theory, but never works the way I would hope in practice. There's still no adjuustment in perspective if I move around the image. Once that can be achieved easily, I'll be excited. There's a video of a guy doing this with a Wii, but I'm on my phone and can't find it.
Why do I hate 3D?
From my experiance, 3D makes me unwell. Generally something I can get around by not eating popcorn in the cinema, but that doesn't stop some things in 3D getting very disorienting at times.

Well it didn't help that Afterlife was probably the worse of the series. All that slow-mo was pretty stupid. I've liked the RE movies until I saw that one. It was a bit too ridiculous. The joke was on all of us that viewed that movie. Sad Pandas all around!captaincabbage said:
I find it unnecessary for pretty much any movie released now, Avatar was the only movie I've seen that actually benefited from 3D, the rest of them it just seemed like a needlessly tacked on addition which swindled me out of 5 bucks. Since I wear glasses the 3D glasses were incredibly awkward to wear, but I didn't get a headache from them

unlike sound or color, it came and went and was hardly missed.
most movies do it to rake a few more bucks from the easily impressed then gloat about it ("zomg this movie made twice as much as the previous one, even though the tickets cost twice as much, therefore it sold exactly as much as the other one , but we'll ignore that since it's the money that counts!!") and add NOTHING to the movie.
worse is when the movie script/scene is crippled to make room for 3d enhanced scenes -raise your hand if a 3d movie has a flying/jumping at you scene that wasn't necessary but looks "cool"- or you have shoddy 3d added in post (like airbender) because "hey, if avatar can make 2 billion, so can we"
also, like every fad, it gets tiring once it's overdone. remember the ninja turtles clones of the 80s/90s? weren't you sick of those by the 4th series that blatantly ripped it off for the sake of money? how about the pokemon clones?

I know the movie industry thinks its innovation because of how 3D technology has improved. Glasses were made out of paper and everything looked red and blue. But I feel that as a moviegoer, I have been trained to think that 3D has a purpose like flashbacks, flashfowards, start the movie from the ending, etc. So now when movies are going to be made for innovation, as the next thing to do, I do get turned off by 3D. It serves no purpose in the movie. So far, the movies that I remember that it was worth it to watch it in 3D was Beowulf and How to Train Your Dragon. I am sure Avatar would have been great too but I didn't watch it.
