OMIGAWD SOMEONE BELIEVES IN SOMETHING I DON'T!

OP: There seems to be a strange belief that The Escapist is a British magazine, populated mostly by Brits who are bitter and anti-american.

However during my many adventures on this site I have found that it is an "American" magazine populated by self-loathing Americans. Strange.

As for your question, I haven't ever lived in any other country, so I have no proper basis to compare the states too, but it's not a bad place to live. It's on par with the others for the most part, at least.

All the nationalistic bigotry on this site really disturbs me. Before I started coming to this site I really wanted to visit places like England and Canada, but sadly if the general population is anything like the people that frequent this forum I think I have changed my mind.

From Canada here and I don't hate the USA, They have some great stuff from there but the one thing they have that I hate is stupid people. People who rather protest 4-8 months to some show that their kids watch instead of doing 5-10 min of setting up a parent blocker or taking 30 min to educate their kids what is wrong and what is bad. People who cries "victim" even if it's there own fault. *Sigh* stupid self-righteous people. Oh don't get me started with hypocrites.

Not another thread of these!
America isn't perfect. Neither are European, Latin American, African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Antarctic, Nordic, Australian, etc. countries. Deal with it. The only difference with 'Merica is how obnoxious some Americans are, how their country has no name (this is more a pet peeve of mine) and how most are obsessed with the fact that we consider them only in stereotypes when in truth THEY are creating the stereotype that we hate them.
Actually, this thread can be seen as different, since I'm defending America. Yeah, I know right. And I am dealing with it. If I wasn't dealing with it I would probably be hating on every other country in some thread laced with cuss words. Instead I'm just trying to further my perspective, "learn" if you will about other peoples opinions that I don't understand.

Generally the reason the world says they hate the US of A is because you, and mean this as a gross generalization, believe you are 'the shit'. Trying breathing down everyone's neck telling them that they need you. See how many times you get punched in the face.
And when did we ever do that. When has any official representative of the US ever directly told another country that without us, they are nothing? You could be speaking about our people who say those things, or maybe the actions that we take as a country, but I highly doubt you could name a single instance where America was the equivalent of some guy at your office screaming that without him, you would be useless. (To reference Lewis Black)

I don't have a problem with their beliefs. I have a problem with their behavior. Or at least the behavior of the loudest of the Bible Belt's population. It's embarrassing to the country and to other Christians.

And what behavior would that be? Listening to christian rock and dressing up for church?

I don't hate Americans, I just dislike people who have over inflated egos and/or are ignorant. And when many Americans are going "FUCK YEAH AMERICA WOO GO TO HELL YOU FUCKING MOUNTIE" at me and my country, not to mention towards other nations as well, it tends to get in the way of seeing the fact that there are many Americans who are not like this.

Fun story: a couple from Boston once asked my parents if they were from "french Canada or American Canada" on a cruise. Suffice to say, my parents never spoke to them again.
Understandable, but I'd like to think that such run-ins are a byproduct of our large population. A large populations harbors more assholes, and since assholes are usually loud, it's much easier to spot them over a rational and intelligent person of the same nation.

Also, ignorance should not become a product of hate. If the couple that spoke to your parents were polite in the matter, maybe your parents could have simply informed them that there is no real "American Canada?" If they were being mocking dicks about it I can understand, but how can you hate somebody for not knowing something they were never taught about? It just isn't fair.

Just want to point out that I always say ignorance is when you don't know something, stupidity is when you don't bother to find out.

Knowing nothing about the country right next to yours, which is your country's largest trading partner, and with whom you share almost all of your history and culture is kind of obnoxious.

I absolutely don't believe anything you have written here. I don't think an American yelled that shit at you, I don't believe the shit about the cruise, I don't believe you. America Woo go to hell you fucking mountie? it's like a poor characterization in a comedy bit.

Because of this song

http://youtu.be/IhnUgAaea4M

which is actually quite catchy (reminds me of pokemon for some reason)

on a more serious tone, i think the US is hated because of all the accomplishments that they claim to have 'achieved' (btw, this video also shows how Americans claim awesome things come from america.("sushi! f*** yeah!" shows this, mind you this is exaggerated a little))

Fine, I'll concede that point. But is it really right to hate somebody for not knowing something they have no reason to have ever learned? I know very little about Canada, I can probably name only about half of your provinces and cities, but on the flip side, I doubt you can tell me who the years that Lewis and Clark set out on their expedition.

That's not to say all Americans can answer that. The point I'm trying to make is more that you guys in Canada are probably taught much more about America than we are taught about Canada, but people that are interested in it simply choose to further their own knowledge, and more power to them.

That doesn't even make sense. Are you trying to make a valid point or be funny?

Because you have no health care system, because your education system sucks, because you have a "bible belt," because our government models many of its policies on the ludicrous decisions of your dumbass leaders, because you are spending billions of dollars and roping other hapless countries into a foolish drug war, and because you are a modern empire that your leadership and electorate have clearly proven that you don't deserve and aren't responsible enough to have in the first place.

That's why.

Because of generalizations like "America and the rest of the world." :p
But google Conservapedia, and see why people sometimes crack jokes about you.

Love the logic behind your posts. Can you cite a single example to your already flimsy argument? I'll settle for a direct example of one of our governmental policies leading to the direct change of any other nations policy that's worth a damn.

Also politicians kind of suck everywhere. No sense on hating on ours alone.

And why is it that you can't ever see the pros of our country? Yes, we have roped in innocent people into our wars. So has nearly every other super power in the world. We have sent billions in aid to other countries, and forget just for a second that we shouldn't be interfering with others business, and realize that yes, although many dollars were simply stuffed into the pockets of corrupt politicians in the country, many more dollars were used to help the citizens.

I'm straying from civility. I simply wish to see an example of the arguments you have produced, that are either completely obvious from many, many other perspectives, or have written and confirmed sources.

Lewis Black put it best, I think.

This is comedy. But I'll bite.

Do we really tell everyone in the world we're better than them? When's the last time that in some way, shape, or form, the USA or someone representing it has directly told anyone in your country that they are simply better than you?

Also I'm now halfway through this and I realize it's just a rant. It's funny but his arguments barely hold any validity.

[sub][sub][sub][sub][sub][sub][sub][sub][sub][sub][sub]We aren't that great. Deal with it. People will say what they feel, and you shouldn't really give a shit either way.[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]
Maybe, but I don't give a shit. I got nowhere to be, and I really do wish to have a decent conversation about why people hate the U.S.
Its not as direct as the politicians going to foreign talks and saying "We are better than you". It seeps out in the politics, media, and many members of our nation talking about it. How many times have you heard someone say "America is the greatest nation on earth" whether on a TV show, news channel, or political speech. Most other people have heard it at least as often as well.

However there is another factor to this. America has a giant spotlight on it all the time. We are the world's largest single economy by a significant margin. To put that another way, we are about 1/4th of the Gross world product. That means what we do and what happens to us can have a large impact on other nations, whether they like it or not. This not only means more people see our nationalism it also means that a lack of policies they see as responsible worries them. So they say the policies are stupid, and that America by extension is a stupid country for enacting said stupid policies.

We also have a rather vocal community on all education levels and most backrounds. This means a lot of ignorant and/or stupid Americans are going to be heard. Ignorant and stupid remarks generally both catch more attention (think trolls) and stick with you longer. Again, because of the spotlight these people are going to be seen very often, their opinions/statements are going to be highlighted unintentionally as previously mentioned and a heuristic will form in some people's minds that America -> ignorant.

These people will then go on to highlight America's faults (to which we have our share) and say look, you guys suck and X is better because they do Y better. To an extreme level, you will see the "hate".

As for Americans hating their own country that is another matter. People become fed up with particular things they don't like in their country, and that mixes with the foreign "hate" they perceive. This is another example of someone forming a heuristic due to something gathering more attention and sticking with you longer.

I dont really have a specific argument here, but the fact you asked "Why does EVERYONE here hate the U.S.A?"

I caps locked that because I'm not sure how to do bold text...

But yeah, I don't hate the U.S.A., sure I might not like some of its people, or some of the things they do, but you really shouldn't generalise the entire Escapist in one way.

It's much akin to my dislike of "Am I the only one?"
No, you never are and never will be.
