Why does everyone hate the PS3?

So I own a PS3 and it seems like it is getting shunned by the world of gaming. Everywhere I go there is always a Microsoft fan boy telling me how much the PS3 sucks. Don't get me wrong, I've met some PS3 fan boys and the are not any better, but why is the PS3 the scum of the universe? Maybe it is just demographics, or maybe I just don't know enough people. AND, why the f-sauce didn't they release an expansion for Fallout 3 on the PS3??????? Not cool. >.<

with me personally, I don't hate any console. But I admit the PS3 is rather expensive (not saying it isn't worth it per se; just that the price is a factor you cannot ignore)

First, Don't ever believe what a fanboy says. I guess theirs a lack of popular games on the PS3, I don't know. I do agree, the lack of DLC for their good games really sucks.

Anyway, the reason no Fallout 3 DLC was released on the PS3 is because Microsoft payed a HUGE sum to Bethseda to keep it exclusive to Xbox Live. Because Microsoft are selfish.

At the end of the day, who cares what other people think - if you enjoy your console then thats the only thing that matters.

(I'm simply stayting that and not discussing why PS3 is disliked as it has already been announced).

People don't like the PS3 because of it's cost (both of the console and to develop for it). Plus the lack of backwards compatibility killed it for a lot of people. I mean c'mon most of us own/ed a PS2 and remember it had amazing games. Fanboys are just blind followers, they feel they have to defend their console of choice.
Also Fallout 3 will not get any expansions on the PS3 because Microsoft paid for exclusive rights on the 360.

It's expensive, to really enjoy the graphics you need a HDTV, the games are expensive too.

I own a PS3 and I can see both it's flaws and it's good points, but I still use it. Granted, it's space-consuming, but it can store music, photos, has internet access etc. as well as play games. While I don't own an xbox, I can still see that it has a better online servive than the PS3, but it's also more likely to crash. The Wii in my opinion is gimicky and can be tiresome if played for too long, but great for parties. While the PS3 has its problems so do all the other consoles, and any other normal person (not a fanboy) will tell you the same.

OK so here are my reasons why I don't like the PS3 that much they are different then most people:

It doesn't have an indie developer program and it should have had 1 gig of RAM.

I say 1 gig of RAM because so many of the other hardware choices are top end but then they get cheap on the RAM, I don't understand that, either go all premium or not.

As I have just said to another poster, I was attatched to my PS2, but the PS3 made me want to hurl every Sony based product I own out of the window. If you actually take everything into consideration, the 360 is technically better.

I wonder that too sometimes though I've found that most of the gamers here on the escapist aren't console snobs (why I go here rather than IGN, gamespot, or joystiq) so good choice in posting here: you'll probably get reasonable answers.

I'm wondering myself. It seems to be the price though when I was shopping around for a console I realized that I would've spent more on a 360 (I would've gotten an elite and the online service).

I don't really care about DLC (see my poll: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.105476#1698294 ) but if I did, the whole MS exclusivity thing wouldn't have made me want a 360 any more, it would've just made me mad. What pisses me off about Fallout 3 is that they said they are no longer supporting it for the ps3 meaning they've only fixed some of the rather trippy/entertaining glitches and don't plan on fixing any of the more annoying game crashing/freezing glitches.

Many make fun of it for being a BR player rather than a gaming machine but the BR player is one of the things that made me want a ps3 so I don't get that part either.

Maybe it's sour grapes because the 360 ended up being the console with all the hardware problems this gen whereas it was the ps2 (the big one) last gen. To tell you the truth, I was expecting MS to have the stronger hardware at first too; who knew?

The problem is fanboys. It is a perfectly fine console with some mistakes. No group chat, no DLC. Lack of competitive exclusives (they should never had let FF and DMC go to Xbox). On the other hand, the 360 has been plagued with hardware problems. So no console is perfect, they all have problems. The hate comes from fanboys and I just don't get it. If you enjoy your PS3, that's fine, there is no need to flame another console. The existance of competition makes your console/games better. The only thing I can figure is that all fanboys have this little voice in the back of their head telling them that the other console is better so they feel they have to furvously defend their console.

I still don't even understand the confusion people are having over the PS3. It has it's purpose. It's not suppose to be a hardcore gaming machine like the XBox 360. It's a multimedia console.

I also don't understand the complaints over price. Sure it's expensive, but it's cheaper than buying an XBox 360, a wireless adaptor, and a Bluray player seperately.

I think the biggest draw the PS3 has to a serious gamer is the fact it's a lot less likely to break down over the XBox 360. Other than that though, any serious gamer should probably own both if they're truly serious. Else they're just hypocrits. And you call yourself a gamer...
