Why does everyone hate the PS3?

My opinion as to why the PS3 is Shunned, simple, Cost and Blu-Ray, sure it's expensive, that aside, blu-ray holds more data but much shallower on the disc, that and the blu-ray discs are thinner than a CD making them far more easily lose data and break, don't get me wrong, I've broken Xbox 360 games before without intending too (strong wrists can be a problem sometimes) but I've never seen such a fragile disc as Blu-Ray, hense why I sold my PS3 because I knew that I was going to sooner or later snap one of the discs in just removing them from the slot.

ps3 - too expensive (as said)
- easily the most arrogant fans
- not enough good exclusives
- a sony product (most arrogant producers)
- worst customer service (see last point)
- makes more noise than a car
- looks the worst
- it's just a supercharged ps2 (does nothing original yet costs the most)

I don't really HATE it, but I wouldn't even own one if I didn't get lucky and win some money.

In my opinion, the 360 just has better games by far. I have all the big PS3 exclusives, Resistance 2, MGS4, LBP, and Killzone 2, and they're just not as fun as games I play for the 360. Resistance and Killzone are pretty much generic shooters trying to cash in on the success of FPS on the X-Box, MGS4's gameplay is REALLY dated, and LBP while fun for a while, gets old pretty quickly. This is the reason I sold my Wii, the games suck and don't make me want to play it, which means it's just collecting dust while I use my 360. And even if I had an HDTV, I don't watch enough movies for blu-ray to be a factor for me, DVD's are good enough.

On top of that, Microsoft has a better online system, even though you have to pay for it. Home is just awful.

So basically my reasons for feeling it's a waste of money are:

1. The PS3 isn't worth its price point.
2. The games library is weak, at least at this point.
3. The online sucks.

To be fair, I think PC gamers are right up there with the PS3 fans, if not more arrogant.
I agree PS3 and PC fanboys are very arrogant.
I think the hate for the PS3 stems from the fact that not everyone can buy one because of it's very high price.
Some of the arguments used against the PS3 are very outdated and irritating.
Perhaps if we all would just accept that each console has it's own high and low points we will finally stop arguing about it.

So I own a PS3 and it seems like it is getting shunned by the world of gaming. Everywhere I go there is always a Microsoft fan boy telling me how much the PS3 sucks. Don't get me wrong, I've met some PS3 fan boys and the are not any better, but why is the PS3 the scum of the universe? Maybe it is just demographics, or maybe I just don't know enough people. AND, why the f-sauce didn't they release an expansion for Fallout 3 on the PS3??????? Not cool. >.<
Because it is far too expensive, huge and lumberous and why have one when you can settle for a cheaper, more versatile console?

XBOX 360 FTW.
Thank you Hannahdonno for basically proving his point.

People don't like the PS3 because of it's cost (both of the console and to develop for it). Plus the lack of backwards compatibility killed it for a lot of people. I mean c'mon most of us own/ed a PS2 and remember it had amazing games. Fanboys are just blind followers, they feel they have to defend their console of choice.
Also Fallout 3 will not get any expansions on the PS3 because Microsoft paid for exclusive rights on the 360.
As I have just said to another poster, I was attatched to my PS2, but the PS3 made me want to hurl every Sony based product I own out of the window. If you actually take everything into consideration, the 360 is technically better.
I do not have an opinion as to the technical specifications of either unit. I own a Xbox 360 because it was cheaper at the time. My question is what makes the 360 technically better. I am not trying to pick a fight only ask that you expound a little about the reasons for its superiority.
When I say "technically" I use the word a lot more genreally than just its technology. The PS3 has room for better graphics but you cannot deny the Xbox 360 still has pretty amazing graphics sometimes and as this is in my opinion the only worthwhile reason of getting a PS3, the difference in price makes it obselete. Sony thought they would pretty much get a free ride with the PS3 due to the success of the PS2, and although it does have its good points, its just not worth it. Apart from Little Big Planet, PS3 has no good exclusives while the Xbox 360 has Fable 2, Halo, Blue Dragon, PGR, Saints Row and its rather good selection of arcade games. Its online community will not be beaten and the acheivement system is poorly matched by the PS3 'medals'. Also, at least the Xbox 360 fits in my god damn house.
I agree completely with those reaons. I don't mind paying for a online service when the money at least partially is used to maintain the connectivity. Additionally as a big achievment whore (I think I am current closing in on 18K) I do value the gamerscore systems as opposed to what i have seen of the medals on the PS3

BTW the house thing was funny.

Copy & Paste the "pot kettle black" comment.

you are sticking up for the PS3 pretty hard witch shows me the lack of confidince you have in the console you have selected.
Correction, a dogged determination to put down imbeciles who can't back their claims.

MGS4 and LBP sucked, I own ALL PS3 exclusives, stop selecting different parts of my "arguement" and read it as a whole.
Your whole "argument" has no content. That was my point. I provide evidence, you provide sheer idiocy. You need evidence to back your claims. You have yet to do so, because you have none.

No people wouldent make "why does blah blah blah" threads because the only thing that matters is the games, and like I said why would i get a muli-platform (in this case lets use CoD for an example) game on a console that has laggy connections, I swear its like going to war exept everyone moves from where they are to 3 feet ahead of them.
Funny, the only time I lagged was when my wireless router was dying... not the PS3's fault.

Okay, Metal Gear Online lags... but that's due to very bad server planning by Konami. Again, not actually the PS3's fault.

And the 360 stores music photos and video, not to mention hi-def streaming from netflix to your console. and while I will admit Microsoft cons you out of 100 bucks for a new HDD its well worth it in the end
360 120GB HDD = £100 or more.
PS3 compatable FIVE HUNDRED GB drive = £80.

To call it a con doesn't really come close mate...
Again, I'm not trying to argue with you. I apologize for the name calling. I was meerly trying to state my prefernce of console. I am not a fanboy nor will I ever be one, as I said I own ALL PS3 exclusives not all of them suck but some do (I enjoy Lair for some odd reason). If you can and I can put this "arguement" behind us it would be much appreciated. I dont like to make enemys, especially on teh internets

People slagging eachother's consoles is hilariously pathetic.

We all like games, surely there's no need to be so ridiculously petty and start squabbling like a bunch of little girls fighting over who has the best barbie doll.

I got news for you: other gamers are not the enemy... save your flames for the ones who condemn your passtime and try to blame it for all of society's ills.

I have a 360 and a PS2 and they have both given me many happy hours.
This man speaks truth. Listen to him. For he... ahh, who am I kidding this topic is just going to continue to up in flames. Everybody outside of video games seems to be against us and who can blame them when even internally we're against each other.
I guess it's just human nature, since the dawn of evolution...

Despite what Sony defenders will say, that's exactly how most of the gaming community views the PS3. The PS3 is not a terrible machine, and more stable than the 360. I know this because I own both. However, Microsoft beat Sony to the punch - they presented a console machine with feasible online capability and a release of games when the PS2 finally slowed down. Sony should have responded quicker and been on top of the PS2's slowdown, but they lagged. And then they offered a great machine at a high price with a crappy internal O/S architecture. People and designers were already invested in the 360. Only the Playstation fans and people who wanted both machines bought the PS3 when the price came down. And only the designers who get help/want to release their game multi-platform make games for the PS3.

Sony is playing catch-up now, and it's a little too late for that. With the economic slowdown and online service prices going up, Sony's going to have to make some tough decisions that may alienate what's left of their fan base. I have to agree with Jerry from Penny Arcade - their online upgrades are actually going backwards and not aligning with the technology they have at their disposal.

* Just a heads-up to PS3 owners * - you are going to have to pay for the Playstation Network soon enough. Sony can't keep losing money in that arena, especially since KZ2 basically drained their resources there.

Damn, there's too much truth in that post to let me suggest you *might* be wrong. I guess I'll need to say good bye to Little Big Planet soon :(

It may not be real soon, but it will happen eventually. I've been waiting for six months now for Sony to call my company and say, "Prep the subscription deduction from credit/debit cards system, we're charging for PSN." It's been built and waiting in the bin for awhile now. It's the daily reminder to me why the PS3 will soon become the machine I won't play online.

The most common reason among my games design class is simply the expense of the console at the minute. No doubt if it was cheaper we'd be fine with it. One of us owns one. He is shunned.

I don't actually hate the PS3. It's game library is getting bigger and better, it's got some good exclusive titles (like Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4). It's online community is getting better. And it has a decent and reasonable price tag now.

Gee, Sony. Maybe you should have tried this from the beginning, huh?

I guess price is always on people minds, more so now than ever... that and the inferior analog controller in comparison to the 360. But hey, its better than knocking your teeth out with the Wii-mote.
