Now, right off the bat let me tell you, I'm not trying to bash metal here. The only music threads I've seen here are all "what metal bands do you like" and they're all the same handful of bands. What happened to people liking varied types of music? What happened to Classic rock? What happened to Alternative? What happened to Punk rock? Does nobody in the gaming community care about anything other than sub-par lyrics masked by the Open E and power cords of metal?
Why does everyone on the Escapist love metal so much?

I like metal, rock, classic rock, acoustic, blues, jazz, nu-metal, some pop, classical music, dub (reggae dub though), dub step. And some rap like Eminem and Sugarhill Gang. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. ^_^
I like classic rock, alternative, some punk, classical, blues, prog and many other genres. I don't like closing my mind to other genres of music. My motto towards music is that if it was written with emotion and can inspire emotion in me then it's valid. Which is incidentally why I like the varieties of metal I like too.

I'm not a huge metal fan but I do end up listening to it whether I want to or not. My mom (yes my mom) is a metal head and will go on the computer and browse music video sites and watch videos for a couple of hours. I wouldn't mind it so much but, she tends to do this while I'm trying to sleep. Me? I like classic rock especially Bowie, Queen and YES.
I like metal but it's far from being my favorite. A lot of people I know on this site are more into either classic rock or classical, but I just have a feeling the metalheads are just more vocal about thier music. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. If they have something to say and enjoy saying it, good for them. And nine times out of ten, I'm going to enjoy listening to them too.

You talk about sub-par lyrics and open E powerchords in a bad way, but you mention Punk Music - A genre built of people not knowing how to play music.
Something isn't right about that one..
A lot of/most of metal that I listen to is like... Amazingly technical, and a lot of/most of the Punk I listen to is full of bad lyrics and powerchords.

The only metal song I like is "Through the Fire and Flames"

Personally, I think there are too many Sub-genres of music. Why not just admit that each musician has their own style and then relate that to a few, core, well-known genres.
As someone pointed out in the previous thread exactley like this one,it could be because the majority of gamers are teenage males.And teenage males like their Metal.
On the other hand it could just mean that Metal fans are more vocal about their taste in music.
By the way the OP's small minded generalization of a whole musical genre,including all its sub-genres is made of fail.
I could quite easily squirt out a lame comment about the sheer repetativeness of Rap,the blandness of Country,or the lack of anything original in RnB,but realise that would just be me being lazy.
On the other hand it could just mean that Metal fans are more vocal about their taste in music.
