My initial reaction to MM was, I admit, ambivalent at best. I wasn't a huge fan of the rather difficult beginning (assuming you don't know what you're doing), but I quickly grew to love it for it's very involved story, clever mechanics, and the entire general atmosphere of the game. MM added to the Zelda series something that I've always kind of thought the series needed: A sense of urgency.
Sure, you could restart the 3 day cycle anytime, but there was always that pressure to get something done before the entire world ended. Better that in my personal opinion than being able to basically just faff about for days and days while some annoying fairy yells in your ear about how immediately important it is that you just get on with it already. You knew it didn't matter until you decided to let it matter.
It was certainly not without it's flaws (getting through an entire sequence to open and access a dungeon was basically impossible in one cycle at the normal time speed) and the save system was...frustrating, to put it delicately.
But considering the depth and number of the characters and stories in the game world, it really kind of made you feel like the world was a real...place. And you were just another person in it. A remarkable one, yes...you are the hero after all...but it was still a world that kept on turning for all the people in it, regardless of whether you were there to fix their problems or not.
I liked OoT. I loved MM. I really don't know how people can complain against the game, but I know that people will *always* find something to complain about.
