Second, it's a common stereotype. Stupid, I know, but the world judges and there's not much we can do about it. I despise the fact that most of the other girls in my class are all hung up on High School Musical and Twilight etc.

Thanks you from nj too? also I saw a scene from twilight and it was horrible, it looked like a film done by college kids for a project. The special effects were horrible and who knows how many more sequals will be amde till the highschool musical series finally crawls into a corner and dies.

I had the horrifying pleasure of seeing Twilight in the cinema with some friends and they're still raving about it. As for HSM, it never lived for me in the first place.

Because it's easier to sell poo to people who think that the poo is actually God's gift to the world.

The corporations behind the characters like Hannah Montana and the propagation of mainstream teenager culture create an image, or a series of images that they want you to pick and empathize with, then they sell poo and drivel to you based on your chosen category. You are their cash cow and they want you to believe that what you love is actually important, therefore justifying the money spent on the poo.

When you grow up they'll just change what they want you to think is important which continues your contribution to the lining of pockets of people who couldn't give a toss about you or your kin.

Edit: I really should contribute to this thread productively. So, here goes:

People group all people of certain ages together because people groups people with the same traits together regardless of whether they should be or not. For instance, I look very unkempt and most people tend to think I do drugs or that I will cause mischief in some way. Because of this, I always go through the "random" screening booths at airports and am being looked at funny by teachers at school. I'm really not a bad person, nor do I deserve to be in either of the before-mentioned groups, but I am because it's easier to just assume things about people than to get to know them.

Now I don't feel bad about the use of the Escapist's many font modifiers.

Teenager may also be the most useless grouping seeing as you prolly change more between 13 and 19 than you do in most other periods of your life. So if one thing is true for a 13 year old it may not be for a 19 year old.
I think teenagers should be grouped better... how bout we draw the line at the legal age for mature fun? they could be jailbait and fresh meat perhaps

In this country (The UK), newspapers say about how GCSE results are better than last year. Then in a few weeks, they say that GCSEs are getting easier. I'm starting my GCSEs in september when i go back after the summer holidays and I plan to do as well as I can. If I get a good mark, some people will say it's because GCSEs are easier now.

No offense to you but GCSEs are a damn sight easier now than they were 10 or even 5 years ago.

On topic, Because a select few reinforce the stereotypes and their blatant stupidity takes center stage while all the normal kids are ignored. That and the fact that teenagers have always been discriminated against because in their attempts to find themselves in adolescence they often act odd.

Also, I have noticed that my kind tend to think they can talk about things they don't understand and still be right. Namely politics, especially around election time(probably because it is their first chance to vote).

People don't care for the 4.0 quiet kid because if they are the same they say it's nothing special ,but if its someone with a 1.0 they won't talk about it because it brings them down. I am deeply saddened about the existance of series like Hannah Montana and stupid blockbuster movies like Twilight and Hannah Montana movie. I have a 16 year old male nephew who totally into this stupid stuff. I started watching more mature shows when I was ten. So seriously.

It doesn't annoy me that you watch such shows, it's that it's your favorite show and a show like House MD is called stupid.

Because, for the most part, we are. I am probably one of the five teens in my high school who could give you a semi-decent debate, and I can't do it in person. I have reasons, goo, logical ones, for my political and religious positions, but I cannot defend them logically in a dynamic open debate.
