Valve should have just made thier games PC exclusive. Then we wouldn't have had any of whining and so-called "injustice".

They are primarily a PC developer. That's what they are, that's what they've been from the start. You're lucky to have even got a port onto consoles. A shitty one, but one nonetheless.
And for so-called "injustice", what about all the other developers that ignore or give badly ported versions to the PC?

Seriously, we've had a load of these threads recently. What gives?

b) I don't want to download all of those gigabytes worth of updates. Here in Australia that is a lot of crab to wade through and if the downloads stuff up, I have to download it again.
And you're totally wrong. The updates are never WoW-Huge. Also it downloads through steam which means if you downloaded 80% and gotta go, you can turn it off, turn it back on and it will still be at 80%. You don't have to download all the crap again.
They may not be as large as the downloads in WoW (which stopped me from getting into that game actually) but they are bigger enough for me not to bother. If I didn't already have the Orange Box for the 360 then I wouldn't care about the downloads. I really don't care if it downloads through steam, knowing my luck I will have to download them again and I've only ever heard bad things about steam. These may not be justified but I really don't care.
I see^^ If you want to defend your 360, go on and whiteknight it.
Ah but I'm not defending my 360, I'm defending my hatred for large downloads. I hate the large downloads for the 360 as much as I do for the PC. The game demos are often reaching two gigs and the original xbox games are around 8 if memory serves me correctly. I've heard that you can download 360 games now (I haven't played my 360 in months so I'm a bit fuzzy on the details) straight to your hard drive, fuck that would be annoying if that was the only way I could get a game I really wanted. I've noticed that for the past 2 years (!!!) you can only download the HD versions of a video which are around 200 megs rather than the SD videos that are around 15 meg. I suppose Microsoft figured that it would be easier for them to just put on the HD version that giving us a choice. The thing is though, I play my 360 on a SD TV so there is no pay off for me in downloading the few hundred extra megabytes. The thing is though, I don't have to download these things to play, while on TF2 I do so these things are not so much of a big deal.

I have a strange feeling that you feel like I'm a 360 fanboy. Rather a poor come back, don't you think? I mean I've been playing my Gameboy Colour, Advance and the PC for like the past three months with my 360, Wii, Xbox and N64 just collecting dust. Even then, I've said nothing of how I feel about the 360 until now. I mean maybe if I said what is the best platform (which so many have) you would be justified in thinking that, but I haven't said anything about my views on any consoles. I hate how people fall back on using fanboy as an insult. It shows an extreme lack of care for the discussion and shows that you're here to insult others, nothing more. Poor form. To be fair you haven't said fanboy but is a definite vibe I'm getting and most of the posts in this thread, no on the forum, no on the Internet, fall back to fanboy. Poor form.
Oh, sorry then. If you're no 360-fanboy than it's ok^^
It's just the thing that TF2 Updates are less 100MB I suppose.

I'm sorry, but shouldn't the guys at Valve decide whatever they want to do with their games?
They shouldn't have to listen to whiny, spoilt brats like yourselves. If you want to play their games, buy a the platform it was fucking made for. Yes, I am what you call a "PC elitist" but at least I can spell correctly, something I daresay you cannot do.

Furthermore, we barely complain when we get a game badly ported from a console. Yes, I'm looking at you, Assassin's Creed. But that's okay because we know it's a port, and is not going to be the prime concern for its developers. However, you console fanboy twats complain about Valve not updating their games on your platform nearly every other fucking day. I saw a thread just like this yesterday! Whatever happened to the search bar, people?

But I digress. The point is that if you want to play a game to the best of its potential, buy the platform it was made for. If you want to complain that your console doesn't have these updates, suck it up. Hell, we do it all the time.
Yep, that is absolutely right. As soon as a user asks for some bug fixes never mind actually getting updates it is all about how whiny console users are. Furthermore I can spell, though I have been known to miss the occasional error like everyone else, it isn't like all console players are pants on head retarded, just like I am sure not all PC users are irritating Trolls.
Well, yeah. Didn't you see the massive boycott for Left 4 Dead 2? It was made because Valve were (apparently) ditching L4D to make a game a little earlier than they usually do. People were outraged, claiming that they wasted money on the original Left 4 Dead because they thought Valve were going to stop working on the immensely popular game that they had previously released (conveniently forgetting all of the effort they've put into Team Fortress 2).

Also, when I said that console fanboys couldn't spell, I wasn't referring to you. Check out the other console owners who couldn't spell to save their lives:

Ok, I can see your point about the spelling and to some extent the whining, however can you see why console TF2 players are getting tetchy about not getting updates specifically the bug fixes (the really small downloads) that have been available for two years for PC.

Your problem lies in the fact that Valve started out as a PC developer. They have a HUGE PC community (look at the amount of people using steam on a daily basis and also consider that almost every game ever released by Valve uses steam). Compare this to the amount of people who still play TF2 online on XBox (and how many actually bought the Orange Box) and then compare that even to the amount of people that play TF2 on the PC. I'm fairly sure the difference in numbers is going to be fairly extreme (aka way more PC players). Valve don't want to alienate their PC gamers because they are essentially a PC developer and I doubt that is going to change.

Anyone who's been following Valve releases of anything for a few months/years will have heard the term Valve Time (google it if you haven't). Basically, your update is done when it is done, much like everything else they make. At some point they said they were having memory issues with the 360. This makes sense, the 360 has 512 MB of RAM whereas I'd say that the majority of people who play TF2 have at least 1 GB. Even if the content was to be installed to your hard drive the 360 would still have issues loading what it needs for one map into it's memory because TF2 uses a lot. If I bring up task manager when I'm playing it, it uses around 900 MB, I can imagine why the 360 will have trouble holding that much in it's memory due to the fact that it has half that amount in the first place. Another problem is the size of the game itself. My installation of TF2 weighs in at 8 GB, this is without any custom maps, textures, models etc. Lets say that TF2 has 3 GB of content on the DVD that it came on for 360. Even if the 5 GB download you'd need was majorly compressed, it's still a lot of your hard drive that is going to be used.

What about mine? (sniff)

On topic, I would agree with everyone else here and say they're a PC developers, but they did put their' game onto the Xbox, and in my opinion if you say you're going to release an update, then you do. I wonder how many peoples' opinions would change if it were a different company, Valve seems to be loved by everyone on this site..

gawd, stop complaining about it already, we got valve, mmorpgs, mods and rts and you have every other genre and publisher/developer, even those who got their start and success from the pc users only uses us as a gateway to start making games for consoles.
Amen!

OT: In response to this thread I could complain all day long about how Infinity Ward started to asskiss the consoles when the started to develop for the PC. The only developers we PC-gamers have left are Valve and Blizzard. So instead, download Steam, buy TF2 when it's a weekend deal or something and stop complaining!

Well a good friend told me that the total amount of downloads required to play TF2 is around 2 gigs which while not that big is too much for a game I already own. Also I can't seem to find a hard copy it by itself. I don't really want to buy five games so I can play one game with a few extra weapons and maps to the same version of that game I already own.

Valve is a small-ish company that develops mainly for the PC. They have a hard time developing for consoles and microsoft doesn't make things easy. It is harder for them to develop for the 360 than it is for PC.
I laughed a bit by that. Valve is one of the biggest PC developers. Haven't you seen their popularity and their big game series. There are companies that are way smaller. Avalanche Studios is an example.

OP: Cause Valve are mainly a PC game developer. They are focusing more on their PC games, and it takes time for them to update the console games.

Where is the xbox update, why is it a side project, it has been shown that orange box owners on the 360 will pay for the updates because we are just that desperate, so why won't valve prioritise it?
Because Valve are a PC developer, it's their money earner and consoles simply aren't. If you look at their games, they're almost becoming a loss leader to get people and other developers/publishers onto Steam.

Steam generates a lot of money (a lot) so it's in Valve's interest to keep up interest and usage in it. There are also very few console TF2 players compared to the PC numbers, none of whom use Steam. So instead of distributing something for free on their own system Valve are left with either paying to distribute updates for free on someone else's system, or paying and making console players pick up the bill. Neither of these make Valve any worthwhile money. You're simply not a worthwhile business proposition.

Besides, Valve don't treat console gamers any worse than 99.99% of dedicated console developres, perhaps you should be thankful they let you join in at all.

Which begs the question, why didn't they buy Orange box for the PC? Every gamer on the planet could have told you this would have happened months before the release of Orange Box, yet people still chose to ignore them.

You "fanboy tard" give a bad representation to either the PC / Console community.

I don't think they're ignoring the 360, they're just busy. They are pretty small...

Been said before, Valve is originally a PC game devleloper and I hope they stay that way. There are loads of gaming companies who make exclusives and/or exclusive content for console games, so suck it up. Valve just happens to be damn good and what they're doing, and they've worked with the PC since the beginning, be happy that the game even came out on consoles.
Also, I heard they wanted to port the updates, but was stopped by certain technical and economical restrictions. Who knows the truth though.
And the PC has Steam which makes it easy for Valve to manage and update/fix their games, got to love it.

Anyway, you get Brütal Legend, so stop complaining.

Bullshit, or all that content for Burnout Paradise wouldn't have been free.
They won't let content with new achievements be released for free, Valve said that themselves. Also the spacing issues with such large updates is a hard problem to work around.

Because of steam its easier to buy a game off steam then buy it retail and they don't have to sell it too retailers that way or make cds, as opposed to consoles where it is purely from retail.

Valve recognize the superiority of games for the PC, their brand is PC sure they've sexually experimented with consoles but the feel of their games best belongs on PC to be fully appreciated.
