Why does Yahtzee hate Rome: Total War?

He has mentioned a few times that he hates something basic about Rome: Total War... but does anyone know in more depth the reasons that he seems to hate this kind of gameplay? Does that hatred extend to the mods for the games, such as the realism mods? Is it the basic idea of these troops go here, these troops do that, as units in realtime? Is it mixing the turn based seasonal thing and the real time thing? What is it? What about the other games in the series, are any of them palatable to him?

Oh, it seems very relevant: I am not UPSET that he doesn't like it, that's fine, I just want to know details. Its OKAY that he hates this game. I am only just "somewhat positive" in liking it. I just want to know the details of how and why he doesn't like it.

Feh, I don't listen to him when it comes to RTS games; mostly because he's not an RTS player (or so he claims). Each to their own, and this isn't it for him. Just accept it.

Because he doesn't 'get it', or he's not very good at it, or because, most likely, he's just a guy who doesn't enjoy that type of game. He's a humorous game reviewer, not Jesus. If he doesn't like it, but you do, then the world keeps on spinning. It's called 'subjective opinion', and the world is full of them.

I just want specifics. I'm not saying he SHOULDN'T hate it, I just want to know WHY. I don't love the game, myself. I like it, but I'm not in love with it, ya know? I'm actually neutral on the unmodded version, it's only after a few realism mods that it goes into "I like it" territory. But I still want to know WHY.

He (Yahtzee) isn't much of a RTS player, so he really doesn't get into RTS games much.

That being said, why does it matter if he likes it or not?

Just because he says he doesn't like something doesn't mean you should feel affronted for it, he's a critic, he criticizes things.

I can only imagine the specifics. But I think its simply a case of not liking a game he's not good at, which is understandable. And some RTSs are rather unforgiving.

Actually, I hated it too. It felt very unintuitive and clunky, and that was BEFORE I played Civ 4.

EDIT: Who cares what Yahtzee thinks anyway? He doesn't like Scribblenauts, and for all the wrong reasons.

Well you can't get all pissy when you are asking us to somehow magically become psychic and read Yahztee's mind. We have watched ZP, we have read EP, we know as much as you do.

So ask him by email or whatnot if you want an answer.

If he wanted you to know why he doesn?t like Rome Total War or any other game for that matter he would do a review on it. I have no doubt that review would be awesome regardless of if he praises the game or rips it a new one. The thing is he can't review every game ever made. If you are so desperate for another human's opinion on Rome Total War there are plenty of other reviews out there. Yahtzee is not the only game critic in the world. To my knowledge Yahtzee does not post on these forums so posting a thread asking "Why Yahtzee feels..." is asking for uninformed speculation.

Gather up a bunch of money and send him an email asking him if he would do a review on the game
and how much money he wants for the review. Then you will learn why he doesn't like it.

Yahtzee thinks controlling entire armies and conquering the whole of Europe is boring. And that RTS games are for nerds who never see the light of the sun. I disagree on both accounts. Yahtzee's experience on RTS games seems very limited, as he showed in "halo wars" review.
