Wow.
Yahtzee is not God.
Just because he says he doesn't like something doesn't mean you should feel affronted for it, he's a critic, he criticizes things.
Blasphemy Yahtzee is god,

O.T. Because it's true as he's always right, *Supressing self* Each to his own I suppose

He doesn't like it because he likes GOOD games and Total War ain't one of them.
This

Lots of people don't like RTS games, including me, and it just so happens I think there are more good FPS or RPG games than there are RTS and in my opinion most RTSs are samey, it's the same (build a construct,) make a unit, upgrade a bit, attack enemy, unit dies, rinse and repeat with little variation. Then again people might think the exact same about FPSs and RPGs :p

I'd guess that RTSs are just not Yahtzee's cup of tea. He's an action player; he likes shooting things, blowing stuff up, and hates fake limitations. He loves playing games perversely and hates having a story forced on him. Keeping track of a million little details via resource management are not his thing.

Guyys! I'm not saying its bad that he doesnt like it! okay? I just want to know why!
WE DON'T KNOW!

That's the straight answer, Jesus.

We're not his personal advisors.

How should any of us know? Ask him directly yourself.

Other than that, glean what you can from his reviews and EP, which is as much as any of us can do anyway, but then that's a subjective opinion of his subjective opinion.

Then the obvious, why care? You like it, at the fact that he doesn't isn't going to change that. Explaning that he should like it based on the reasons you like it isn't going to work because he is not you.

Because he doesn't 'get it', or he's not very good at it, or because, most likely, he's just a guy who doesn't enjoy that type of game. He's a humorous game reviewer, not Jesus. If he doesn't like it, but you do, then the world keeps on spinning. It's called 'subjective opinion', and the world is full of them.
Ah, the old 'people have different opinions' phenomena.

You know, alot of the world's problems could be avoided if people accepted this fact.

I don't recall Yahtzee saying he didn't like the Rome: Total War games. I know he's not a big fan of RTSs in general, but I don't think he's ever said anything about hating the Total War series specifically. He only briefly made mention of it in his Darkest of Days review and even then it was only to draw parallel.
Also why do you care what games Yahtzee likes and doesn't like?

He has mentioned a few times that he hates something basic about Rome: Total War... but does anyone know in more depth the reasons that he seems to hate this kind of gameplay? Does that hatred extend to the mods for the games, such as the realism mods? Is it the basic idea of these troops go here, these troops do that, as units in realtime? Is it mixing the turn based seasonal thing and the real time thing? What is it? What about the other games in the series, are any of them palatable to him?

Oh, it seems very relevant: I am not UPSET that he doesn't like it, that's fine, I just want to know details. Its OKAY that he hates this game. I am only just "somewhat positive" in liking it. I just want to know the details of how and why he doesn't like it.
I don't understand why you're asking the Escapist why someone else likes something only he can give you an answer for? Very odd.

Wow, now Escapians are in some sort of stage when its a sin to care about Yahtzee or anything he says. I remember when it was just the opposite.

Almost everyone here discovered this site because of him. Now people turn there backs and mumble about not having heard of him. Seriously people, he's a game reviewer, not the fucking swine flu.

The guy only joins today and the first thing he does is start a thread about Yahtzee....
Yeah and? Isn't that the reason EVERYONE joins? Because of Yahtzee? If I may make an assumption, he is singly responsible for about 90% of the membership of the Escapist. Seeing as how new members get berated for mentioning Yahtzee as if he is some kind of disease, its no wonder people don't mention him more often.

People!

OP! Why don't you just send him an email about it? I mean, it's shown after every single episode.

People! I think we're missing the point where he once said he don't want to control a group of units but rather player one so he can stare his enemies into their eyes, that's your reason!

But remember! On the Valkyria Chronicles he did say he got amused playing it, the actual gameplay that is, not the story/options/"Are you sure?" questions/etc!

Conclusion! Yahtzee may aswell enjoy Strategy games, he just have to try one he likes. I mean, he loves Silent Hill 2 etc while I personally feel for horror games (except Resident Evil 2 and 3) what Yahtzee probably feel for Real Time Strategies.

Yes! I know Valkyria is a turn based, and he seems more into that than real time.

Why he doesn't like him? Like I said, and many others above, ask -him- write -him- an e-mail!

Okay I emailed him, I'm awaiting a.) a reply, or b.) a hilarious "mail time" in the latest ZP episode. I had hoped people here might have more access to more things that he had written outside of the ZP video reviews, or that there might be some of his old real life buddies hanging out here, or maybe even some Australian who goes and has beer with him once in a while on these forums, or whatever... but I guess that isn't the case... I didn't mean to stir up a hornet's nest!

Rome total war, the RPG, are wethinking of the same game?

OT: I didn't like it either, people have tastes.
I thought it was, technically, a real time tactics and turn based strategy game?
