Why does Yahtzee hate Rome: Total War?

He has mentioned a few times that he hates something basic about Rome: Total War... but does anyone know in more depth the reasons that he seems to hate this kind of gameplay? Does that hatred extend to the mods for the games, such as the realism mods? Is it the basic idea of these troops go here, these troops do that, as units in realtime? Is it mixing the turn based seasonal thing and the real time thing? What is it? What about the other games in the series, are any of them palatable to him?

Oh, it seems very relevant: I am not UPSET that he doesn't like it, that's fine, I just want to know details. Its OKAY that he hates this game. I am only just "somewhat positive" in liking it. I just want to know the details of how and why he doesn't like it.

Really mate, as a fellow Total War fan, I think his beef with it is our attention to detail and the structure with which we like to have in the game. Maybe he doesn't get it, I know I don't really care for some of his favorite games. It takes alot of patience and strategy to play an Strategy-RTS, something I'm pretty sure Yahtzee lacks judging from his love of FPSs, but really, enjoy the games, don't let some dirty Austrailian cynic spoil your fun, and don't make a big deal about it so he can bring the ire of the several hundred thousand bleating lambs who follow his judgement like cultists down on our favorite genre. If he does a special on why Total War sucks, I know dozens of people just in my area who'd take his word as divine bloody mandate.

Okay I emailed him, I'm awaiting a.) a reply, or b.) a hilarious "mail time" in the latest ZP episode. I had hoped people here might have more access to more things that he had written outside of the ZP video reviews, or that there might be some of his old real life buddies hanging out here, or maybe even some Australian who goes and has beer with him once in a while on these forums, or whatever... but I guess that isn't the case... I didn't mean to stir up a hornet's nest!

Come on mate, thats more beating the hornets nest with a bat then anything else. I appreciate what you're trying to do, and Yahtzee will honestly just be stating his opinion on the subject, but if he realizes it or not, Yahtzee has several thousand fans around the world who merely take his word as "the truth", just in my area, I know several people whowon't buy a game if Yahtzee writes an unfavorable review, even mocking my love of Mirror's Edge. I don't want to deal with the backlash of dealing with all these bleating lambs after Yahtzee hands down his (probably negative) opinion of the series and the genre as a whole.

I think the better question to ask would be why Yahtzee LIKES the things he does, since his shtick is to be a misanthropic bastard who hates pretty much everything.

Here's an interesting question: Does ANYONE know of any situation where one of us asked him a question like that, via email, and actually GOT a reply? As in a personal reply? I vaguely remember someone asking an intelligent, well reasoned, non snarky question in one of the zero punctuation videos and him giving an answer. Does anyone remember which video it was, or if my memory is failing me and the only questions he has mentioned "on the air" were the "YOU SUCK WHY DID YOU BURN THIS NINTENDO GAME I HATE YOU!!!11" type?

*sighs* Well, still no response... not to my email, not to this post, nothing, and he even mentioned R:TW in the latest review. Does anyone have a CLUE how to get an answer out of him?
