Why doesn't anyone ELSE say that?

I'm just curious, how many people use words or phrases that is either "something my grandma would say" or have never even heard at all? I don't mean made-up crazy talk, I mean using "old-fashioned" vocabulary or something.

For instance, I just used wiggity-wack in a serious conversation about domestic abuse. It wasn't even on accident. I've also been told, that using the words "pal", "jive", "scoundrel", "dame", and "broad" is something normal people don't do, and have even been told that I'm going to hell for telling someone not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Anybody got their own zingers?

My ex boyfriend used to correct me all the time because I say "crick" instead of "creek." At first it was something I just learned from my grandmother growing up, but since then I've mostly done it just to annoy him o_0

I'm sure there are more, I just don't notice them unless somebody says something. I'll have to ask my boyfriend.

Also, w00t, 500th post!

By-the-by is about it. I'll use others, I guess, but I that's just because sometimes I think those are the perfect way to convey what I' getting at.

By-the-by, looking a gift horse in the mouth isn't old, it's a classic. Everyone I know uses that.

Me and a friend once went through a whole day speaking ye olde style.
The whole thee, thou and doth thing, it was fun.
It depends on who I'm talking to but I sometimes slip into that way of talking with out realising it.

Because of my father, I say "motor trip" instead of "car ride," and I frequently use the term "Dames" when referring to women, though it appears some women aren't too terribly fond of said title.

I use so many random and almost made up words I think I actually have my own dialect.

I don't really know if this is an old phrase, but my friends would always say "in bed" after every sentence. It was so annoying, and eventually it caught on in school of course. Got I hate dipshits like that who try to be funny by being annoying...

Also, I say scissors with a emphasis on the "c". Sounds like skizzers pretty much.

I say "donkeys years",
That's alright, I say Donkey's yonks...

I also call "Sleeping Policemen" (Humps in the road to slow cars down) "Yeeha's" Because when I was little I used to shout "Yeeha!" when we went over them.

Very, very old-fashioned words.

Like popular-in-the-1600s-old.

Sometimes.
But never slang. I try to avoid slang, excluding "dude."
Examples?

Forsooth is a personal favorite of mine as far as archaic words are concerned. :D

I love using older words xD
  • Poppycock.
    Flabberghasted.
    Hooligan.
    Rascal.

And for made up words: If something is really good I usually say it's "Joygasmic" or even "Joygasmolicious".

I call them chicks or ladies.
The strangest thing is, some are offended by both.

It's an unwinnable battle.

That's good, because nobody listens to you except you.

Correctly?
That sounds like a lot of work.
Harsh Max... Harsh... Was that because I stabbed out your eye earlier?
