Why Don't These Animes Ever Get Proper Endings? :(

I'm usually not too picky about endings, although I do like closure. I hate cliffhanger endings. Oh and for fuck's sake at least defeat the villain of the hour before ending your series, Inu Yasha I'm looking at you. When the final episode of the series feels like just another episode, that really pisses me off.

I don't know, and this may just be me talking out my ass but it might be something about Japanese culture having a dislike for closure.

It also might be that so many animes are just a take on every day life that (Assuming the characters are all alive at the end) their lives will go on. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya did this after Disappearance ended. So did a lot of animes. You get invested in the characters that the plot feels secondary and after it ends it still feels like there's more to show.

Out of all the animes I've seen the only 2 with definitive and satisfying ends I've seen have been Death Note and Code Geass (And maybe Cowboy Bebop, It's been a while since I've seen it all the way through)

Elfin Lied or Claymore ended open enough to continue but never did.
Eden of the East ended on a fucking cliffhanger.
And I don't even want to talk about how bad Clannad's ending was.

So yeah, it might be a cultural thing.

I don't think it's a thing with Japanese culture; sometimes manga leave an opening for the story to continue, but for the most part they tie up all the plot threads, often kill many of the characters, etc. so that even if there are further adventures, they'll be another story instead of a continuation. Using some of your examples, the Elfen Lied manga came to a solid conclusion (one that would have been impossible for the anime because they butchered the adaptation early on), Death Note followed the manga closely, Claymore is still ongoing, and Code Geass was an anime first and thus didn't run into any problems (can't personally speak on Clannad or Melancholy because I haven't gotten around to them yet. And I don't know what the heck happened with Eden of the East; it almost seems like the anime was just to build hype for the movies they were making.). So I get the distinct impression that it's less a thing about Japanese culture and more a thing about anime adaptations getting screwed up. Maybe mangakas do it for the art, the people who adapt them to cartoons do it for the money, and good endings aren't profitable? Maybe the manga system just doesn't fit well to 13-26 episode seasons of half-hour episodes?

Well, that would explain some of it. (I haven't read that many Mangas, and the ones I have read I haven't watched)

The only ones I can think of are the ones where the manga is still ongoing like One Piece, Naruto Shipudden, Fairy Tail, Berserk and Hunter X Hunter and etc.

However Berserk and Hunter X Hunter have been on a haitus type of break for a really long time so those two really should had ended by now or had more chapters to it (well ok the Manga Ka were ill but still even when they recover they just can't be bother drawing it).

I suppose Shaman King anime sort of count as it only end with the Tournament was put on hold after Zeke (Hao) defeat but then the tournament reopen so we don't who exactly and how they won the tournament. Granted thought I did read that the manga ending was alot worse than that.

Oh yeah I just remember the ending to The Big O, that had a weird ending that didn't bring and closure at all.

Yeah I have heard really bad stuff about the Berserk anime. Isn't it just the prologue of the manga?

Pfft I am the true Berserk fan here and they are doing three movies covering the golden age ark (starting ark that the anime covered) not a series

Actually, it is a series: a series of movies. Hence, my title still stands and my post is still correct even if i didn't say it specifically.

Just the original Hunter X Hunter and Beserk ending on a cliffhanger. A couple of the few anime I really started to enjoy and they end just as shit is about to go down. I find it really bloody annoying!

Yeah, I know theres a new HXH, but I find it shit in comparison. Everything is forced and doesn't have much pace.

Edit: Also, Naruto some what into endless filler and then the even more bland Shippuden.

I don't watch too much anime. I enjoy reading manga more, but here we go.

Fruits Basket: Seriously what the fuck happened with this one? This was a giant clusterfuck, but the ending was just awful.

Berserk: I know funds ran out, but I really enjoyed it. Ended in the biggest cock tease I've ever seen. :< At least there is still the manga. <3

Vampire+Rosario: The ending to Season Two. I felt it could have been done better.

Those are the ones that pop into my head. I don't remember if I thought the ending to Hellsing was bad or not.
