Why don't you do drugs?

The only non-medical drug I've taken is caffeine, from coca-cola and coffee. I was using caffeine because I had a serious problem with falling asleep in class. However, no matter how much caffeine I took, I was still sleeping all day. So I stopped. It was easy to stop because I never really noticed an effect, and I didn't take it that long.

OT: I don't take addictive drugs because of addiction. I know that I'm not strong-willed enough to stop once I start. I also don't want to face the consequences if I get caught. I'm not against drugs, because people should have the right to do whatever they please, but I'm not one of those people.

I don't see the point. I can understand people wanting to turn to drugs and alcohol because they want to escape from the world and it's problems but in the end you are just ignoring them for a while before they all come back to haunt you. Personally, I believe that to be a sign of weakness.
Almost this.
If anyone does drink or do drugs to escape reality, then that's just flat-out insecurity.
I don't need a crutch like that.

But I'm not so naive as to think that everyone who does drugs does it to 'escape'. I know that some people do drugs just because they like it. It's like playing a game or something. They see it as just 'fun'.

I don't do drugs because I never do not want to be in full control of myself.
I used to have an extremely bad, uncontrollable anger issue when I was younger. Having since worked my way through that, I decided that anything that impairs my judgement in anyway and is used strictly for recreational use is off limits. I'll obviously take prescription drugs if I'm sick or have an infection or something, but I don't drink (To excess, anyways. Maybe a glass of wine), and I don't touch recreational drugs. I always want to be in my right mind, and in control of myself.
Hey Baby_Tea! I didn't mention the recreational viewpoint because I don't really find it 'recreational' - but if other people do then that is fine with me and I have nothing against it :)

To be honest I had the escapism viewpoint in my head because I had some specific people in mind who I know/knew used them (drugs) for that reason.

Because I don't want my life to get to the point where I need drugs to make me feel happy. Nor do I particularly care for the side effects or medical complications.

Drugs do not appeal to me at all. I like to be in control of myself. I would never let something control me or make me do things that I don't wish to do. I've never been high or drunk, but I've seen the results too many times to wish to do that to myself. I've got better things to do.

Honestly, addiction is a dead issues with most drugs. Things like crystal meth, cocaine, heroine and other really hard substances do have very strong addictive properties. And those types of drugs can destroy lives.
No. All drugs have powerful addictive properties, not just the hard ones.
Uh, no. LSD and pot have no addictive qualities. The only "addiction" possible is psychological, and that's questionable at best.
Marijuana, LSD, and salvia divinorum that I know of have no addictive properties any more than, say, sugar. You can get a habitual addiction to it, like you might get a habitual addiction to a morning cup of coffee, but there's no psychological/physical dependency that's created as a result of those drugs. Might be others I don't know about that don't cause addiction, too.

A better question is "why would I do drugs?". There are millions of legal things I can do to make myself feel good. Most of them are free.

As far as alcohol, I had my first drink at 22(I'm 23). To say I drink once every 3 months would be an exaggeration.

1) I don't want to.
2) It's against the law.
3) It's bad for my health.
4) I don't see the point.
5) It's an expensive habit.

Also, I do not smoke or drink for all the same reasons besides #2. My father's side of the family has a history of alchohol abuse and I plan to break that chain by abstaining entirely.

Well, I suppose I ingest caffeine once in awhile....

Ok, so I might have been brainwashed somewhat as a kid, but I still hold to my resolution: no smoking, no drugs, and minimal drinking. Why? Eh, health reasons. I've seen that nicotine can be so addictive it's ebil (not to mention the lung cancer). I'm not a huge fan of getting smashed. Tho trips do sound fun, in the long run I think I'm better off with a clean slate. There's legal and social reasons as well. Bad breath and stigma and such...

But getting high is ok. Plus why the fuck is weed banned? Tobacco should be banned not weed! Weed is healthly when it's on it's own and of the medicinal kind.
Cheers.

Marijuana (well, "cannabis" to be more accurate) is demosntrably one of the most reliable treatments for many types of pain that things like morphine don't treat. Though there is the painkiller made of blowfish venom that I recall was supposed to be 10,000 times stronger than morphine or some ridiculous number and treat basically all kinds of pain.

Cannabis also is the most effective treatment for intra-occular pressure (causes glaucoma)- more effective than any synthetic or any other natural treatments.

It's also, though I might be mixing this up with salvia, a possible treatment for some types of depression.

And the hemp plant- from which cannabis/weed comes- can be used to make some of the strongest and cheaper rope available. And the god damn Constitution and Declaration of Independence were written on hemp paper.

Tobacco, on the other hand, has no health benefits whatsoever. Though the US government refuses to acknowledge that weed has any benefit whatsoever, putting it in the same category of drugs as heroin- ranked just as bad in terms of addictiveness and harm. Something about they have something in their bylaws or whatever about having to disregard any studies saying weed is not bad for you (but please don't quote me on that, dunno how accurate if at all that is) and so medicinal marijuana is illegal in most places, though it's slowly being legalized. Though in California, the people legally growing marijuana are arrested and thrown in prison for upwards of a hundred years, even though no action is taken against doctors prescribing it, vendors selling it, people obtaining it via medical channels, or state laws legalizing it.

i have to many members in my (extended) family that have become addicts, to ever risk something like that. I have seen what it does and i do not want to risk something like that. I know pepole who do that stuff and don't get addicted, but i also know pepole who had an intervention by the pepole who they do the stuff with. Risking addiction for some quick fun does not seem like a fair gamble to me...

Dad did and while I don't hate him, I greatly dislike him and would rather not be like him more than is necessary. Also, while in High School [and middle school too I guess] I never really got pressured into it. Nobody even suggested I try anything. It was like nobody I knew had anything at all! And they wonder why I don't get back into contact with them now that I'm out of school >.>

I'm fine with caffeine and sleep deprivation

I am not against drug use, and I have many friends who practice recreational drug use. On occasion I will be in their presence during ingestion of drugs. But I am 100% straight edge, I have never taken any drug in any form, nor drank any alcohol (save for wine), and never smoked a cigarette. And I am damn certain I never will. I like to keep a cool, level head, I don't need drugs to have a good time, I don't need to be disabled mentally, no matter how temporarily, for any reason.

I do not oppose drugs, but I have never (ab)used them, and never will.

I've had a drink or 2, just to try it out. Its not really for me, and being 27 and living in a town (especially my part of the town, high concentration of Irish people) where just about everyone drinks, when I say I don't drink people are like "OMFG NO WAY! YOU'RE SO LAME" and such. I just don't find an appeal in drugs/drinking. If I wanna feel "messed up" I'll go a day without sleeping then drink a few energy drinks (unless you count those as drugs too then I guess I do use drugs, lol) I feel plenty silly off those when tired enough.

My reason is a little strange.

People say "Gamers r bad, dey liek drugs LOLDONGS" and I believe that, to a certain extent. You see, I play games to escape from the reality of real life. And as much as I try, I cannot just shut myself off from the world. I'm tied to that reality until death.

People use drugs, in my opinion, as a more extreme form of escape, spending money so they can get baked, or whatever else it is. Doing this distorts how they see things, how they feel.

This terrifies me. I know I can't escape, so I use games to distract myself. I can live in a world that isn't really there. BUT, I can go back at anytime. I am still aware of myself and the things around me. I'm terrified of not "being all there".

It's the same with being unconcious, like going under the get your wisdom teeth removed. As I was sitting on the chair, needle in my arm, I was absolutly shitting my pants. I was breathing heavy, shaking, going into shock.

Another example, would be the novel I'm reading right now. It's a Warhammer 40000 book called Titanicus, based around, you guessed it, the imperial Titans. The guy in charge of the the legio is constantly afraid because he fears the loss of his personailty. He's been in so many battles, that he is slowly being consumed by the will of his Titan. He's always fighting fr control. Great book, by the way.

That's just the way I see things. But then again, I'm probably full of monumentally large amounts of shit, seeing as how I'm 17 and have never done anything of the sort.

Because I find them boring. Besides, I can trip myself out anytime I want with my 8-year-old-on-sugar imagination XD
