True. I'm at the edge of quitting smoking (about five weeks without a cigarette now, yay me), wish me luck. :) There sure are better ways to spend your money.
Though I refuse to stop drinking alcohol. Beer is great, I enjoy a whisky now and then, and wine is bottled greatness.

You should be ashamed of yourself, this is very narrow-minded of you! :( Many drug users have had about a million little events that eventually lead to them abusing that stuff. Just saying "you should've gottan ahold of yourself, you're an absolute waste now" does neither do that situation any good nor justice.

Me, well... seeing how I occasionally mess around with chemicles I am not suppose to, I will still contribute

1. I hate the vast majority of people associated to it. Many really started on it for the main purpose of being cool, too many. That really bugs me. Doing something to fit in is one of my top ten hated things in the world. It is why I never got along with the whole tight pants thing and why I hate groups like Emos, jocks, goths, and the trendy people. You will always get the fun ones though, like Furburt. And if you are reading this furburt, I am sorry to come off sounding like I have a man-crush on you whenever I mention you.

1b. It promotes cop haters and people like that. If you guys get the jist of what I am like, I absolutely despise people who thinks every cop is a facist pig. People got it in there heads that weed is now somehow a vital part of life and a right that is being taken from them.

2. Long term and addictions. If you have ever seen someone who smoke too much weed, I would rather not be that guy. Sounding like you have Downs syndrome isn't cool.

Because I get a feeling of superiority for not partaking in a illegal activity. Plus, I get to say stuff like, "I don't need drugs to have a good time" and "Why take drugs when I'm so unique already"...

Oh wait, I do take drugs... my bad.

I've just been inspired by the poll of people saying they don't do drugs, and kudos to you people for standing up for... something....
Thing is, as a recreational drug user myself it is hard to understand why people are so against it.
As such, I wanted to open up this thread for logical reasons why one should not do drugs and I'll see if I can respond to them.
Just so we're clear, alcohol is a drug as well. If you tell me you don't do drugs but you occasionally drink, you are a recreational drug user just without the stigma of being one.

Edit: Wow! So many people are interested in this topic :)
I thought I'd be able to give my two cents on each reply but there are too many, though I'd like to say thank you because I like seeing how other people think.
This thread is about drugs of course it had a lot of replys, but to be relevant I want to see the world for what it is just natural highs not drug induced highs and i don't drink because... I am too young *shrugs* but i wouldn't drink even if i had the chance because i have seen the affects it has had (without control).

Well, my answer is that I guess in the very OPEN interpretation of recreational drug user, is that I am one. I've never been drunk and the only high I've gotten was from following doctor's orders to the letter.

That being said...I guess it's just not interesting to me. Family history of drug dependence and schizophrenia kind of takes the adventure out of these things, and my parents offering to pass the smoke kind of kills the whole mood. I enjoy beer for flavor and I hate smoke. I drink wine as a compliment to a meal and I don't tend to highly regard nights I don't remember.

Also I've kind of always been the responsible one, which is difficult to do when under the influence. I'm that friend/ family member who gets called to drag so-and-so's ass back from the party/ hospital/ jail/ strange dude's house.

Yes, I'm square. Yes, I am the chick who most guys hate because I take that easy bimbo off their arm and escort her home...but it's a job someone's gotta do and I try to do my part to keep the population of drunkenly conceived bastards down.

Because it never really "call me". But im a little tempted of playing katamari on drugs...
I would never use synthethic drugs, they are too destructive. And i dont like the idea of smoking weed, brownies on the other hand...
I found booze pointless. Cigarettes are just stupid.

The only time I ever disobey the law is the odd free download or something.
Drugs are generally associated with criminals, or at least out goers.

Call it prejudice (because that's what it is, I suppose), but I wouldn't want to be involved with any of that.

Because it would probably interfere with my gaming, and School has already done enough of that.

The same way I tell all the people around me that take drugs when they try to force it on me. 'Why?'

I see no point in drug use. I already behave and look like I'm toked up on the most foul drugs ever, I don't want the stuff in me. (Trust me, I've been told I looked high, asked for a hit, all that. It gets annoying. Plus, my friends tend to stay a bit away from me, telling me how drug-like my entire being is like.)

Plus, I find my body's messed up at is, adding something that can affect it badly to the mix is not good.

This is very
I have witnessed the destruction of people who were weak-willed and/or just too lazy to do anything to improve their lives, so they turned to drugs/drink to make life easier on themselves--just not any easier on the people who were in the situation of caring about them and their well-being and, in a couple of cases, watched them systematically kill themselves with that which was supposed to "ease their pain"-one of whom was my father.

So, you keep on thinking that I am narrow-minded and I'll just write off your judgment[footnote]and have a good laugh at you for judging me for being judgmental, btw[/footnote] due to the fact that you know absolutely NOTHING about me or the life I've led.

Why buy weed when you can buy MUCH more beer?
Because there's much less sick and fighting too, as a general rule.

On a note related to this thread but not this quoted post;
"I don't do drugs; I'm MAAAAD enough already, the world couldn't cope, huh huh, huh."
Whenever I come across stuff like this I get the impression I'm reading the scribblings of the most sane and boring person on the planet; the kind of individual that has a "You dont have to be mad to work here but it helps" sticker on their desk at work. Not that I'm criticising their choice - introducing perfectly good mind altering subtances into such a consciousness would be tantamount to feeding pigs caviar.
