Why don't you like Matt Smith as the Doctor?

I see a lot of people who dislike Matt as Doctor.
I don't fully understand why. I'm thinking that there may be a certain resentment of him for replacing David T. That would be stupid of course, David quit, he wasn't fired or replaced against his will. To my understanding.

People have said to me that he's too funny looking.

That's silly too. Almost every Doctor has been funny looking.

People have said they don't like his slapstick/ humorous take on the Doctor. Well I've never seen a Fifth Doctor episode, but he's wearing a stick of celery. I can guess that he wasn't all that serious either. Did everyone harp on Doctor Five about it too?

Some people may have good reasons for not liking him, but I don't see what they are.

He's awesome. Back to the Doctor as he should be.

I think some people are just upset that he's not a pretty boy like certain other Doctors. ;)

I liked David Tennant as the doctor the most, he was just more "loopy" and crazy than the others, however I did like christopher Eccleston since he shows the doctor's more destructive side.
What I don't like about Matt Smith is that his hair looks weird, other than that he's great. Not bent but it just looks like a mix from a typical 70s and typical 80s person mixed together

I love Matt Smith as the Doctor. If the rest of this season continues being as good as last season was and the first half of this one was, he'll overtake Tennant as my favorite, or at least be equal with him. I think most people who don't like Matt as the Doctor really just dislike how romanticized he's become over the years. Or the fact that he isn't Tennant.

He's starting to get some really intense depth. Personally, he's my favorite Doctor. And my first.

I dunno, I quite like him. His personality feels right, and he is enjoyable to watch running around the screen. He feels a little too much like a certain previous doctor (hint: the 10th one) from what I have seen, but I still like him. No one replaces the perfect team of Davidson, Baker, and Pertwee in my eyes though...

I like Matt Smith quite a bit; it's just that I liked David Tennant somewhat more. How much of this attitude do you think is in the phenomenon you're reporting?

Actually, the fifth Doctor, unless I'm remembering it incorrectly, was more serious. I cannot claim to have seen all the doctors, but I think David Tennant was a bit closer to them than Matt.
Personally, I don't like Matt as much as the others I've seen. Each one has their quirks, but Matt's version just doesn't fit as well with me. No, I didn't like David being replaced by him, but my issue with that is the amount of time in between changes... But Tennant had other things he wanted/had to do, and that's how it goes. Though I'm not a fan, lets see if he can settle into the role in a way I'm happier with. Still a good show :).

I think he's good but I do have one problem with him. He always looks happy. Even when he needs to be sad or serious or angry he still looks happy. I don't know if that's just my perception and his features just make me feel that way or something but to me he always some mix of the emotion happy and whatever else he needs to be at the moment. That of course takes away from serious moment or sad moment since I see him as a giggling idiot trying to be serious but I still think he's a good doctor.

I don't get why one show needs to change it's main actor every season. It feels like a very hard series to get into.

i think most of the "hate" comes from the Tennant fanboys (which i was one up until the Eleventh Hour....maybe even the trailer after the End of Time P2 ended)

not to say Tennant wasn't awesome but i think Matt was a bit of a shock to some peoples systems.

i kind of blame the 10ths final line "i don't want to go" on some of it...it basically tries to knee cap any attempt on the next doctor regardless of it being Smith because it gives the since that Matt TOOK the role as oppose to Tennant passing the torch, i realize that's not what happened but the way the transition happened IN the show could give fans the wrong idea and it just could have been done smoother...getting rid of that line for starters. of course the show basically rebooting with a new cast (Safe for River),a TARDIS remodel, and even a new sonic screwdriver (TARDIS and Screwdriver a lot more awesome now by the way) which while awesome may have been too much for Tennant fans. I didn't mind it but others may.

of course people with legitimate issues with Smith are probably to some degree still because they were accustom to Tennants/Ecelstons Doctor.

Ecelston's Doctor was born in war and thus was colder and more damaged

Tennant's Doctor was born from Ecelston's sacrifice and was a much anti-war/violence as possible and most importantly, he acted cool.

Smith;s Doctor on the other hand is intentionally UN-cool, which ends up going full circle but its THAT major difference that some may have with Smith over the other Doctors

...unless they are lining up to suck Tennant's sonic screwdriver =p

EDIT: of course the original picture of Matt Smith with that silly slightly emo looking hair cut probably didn't help much either..

When they started to do the announcements for Matt Smith all I could think about was how wierd he looked. But once I started watching it was all about the Doctor, definitely a good fit for the role.

My friend dislikes Matt even though she's not too clear on why. She does say that the final scene with David was where he was really showing his regrets and how he truly did not want his time as the Doctor to end but it was too late. Personally I am loving Matt Smith as his interpretation of the Doctor is so much more lighter and enjoyable. With this doctor I'm more willing to believe in him then I was with the other one.

I do like him very much and find him very amusing. His humourous take fits the series very well and I like the 'not as cool as he thinks' thing he has going on. Especially bowties. Bowties are cool.

I'm okay with Matt Smith being the doctor. I'm not okay with the script writing. It's to over the top. I didn't think you could do that with doctor who but they have.

My personal favourite was Eccleston, he was really badass. He was also the first doctor I saw (Everything before the new series was before my time, and never got around to watch it, although I have spent my fair share of weekends reading wikipedia.....*sighs*.

Smith is cool, I see no problem with him. And Karen Gillan is fucking celestial.
