Why don't you like Matt Smith as the Doctor?

The hate on Matt Smith is absurd. It seems to me that the people who don't like him are generally fans of Tennant who can't let go or people who don't like Doctor Who in the first place.

My favourites are David Tennant and Tom Baker, but I don't hate Matt Smith, I just don't like his style.

I love Matt Smith, I didn't think anyone could be better than Tennant but I was proven wrong. I love how the stories are more complex and the audience isn't drip fed all the information like they are simpletons. You actually have to think and pay attention which makes the stories more exciting.

I don't get why one show needs to change it's main actor every season. It feels like a very hard series to get into.
it isn't every season. Matt smith is on his third and david tennant was on for about 4 or 5. Get your facts straight before assuming mate.
Still too much, it always annoys the crap out of me whenever a movie/series decides to switch actors. So yeah, this is not for me.

My one complaint regarding Matt Smith is that sometimes he talks a little too fast to actually understand. Other than that, I love him as much as I did Eccleston and Tennant.

He's awesome. Back to the Doctor as he should be.

I think some people are just upset that he's not a pretty boy like certain other Doctors. ;)
*daydreams about David Tennant*

Sorry, you were saying something?

OT: I love Smith!

He makes everything cool.

Eccleston was my first Doctor, and he lasted a decent length of time, though I much preferred Tennant's Doctor due to his slightly less serious character. To me, Tennant seems more likely to think outside the box and come up with ways to deal with an issue, where Eccleston, despite the Doctor being a pacifist through and through, kind of looks and acts more like a soldier than a Time Lord.

I once read that with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, the creators were aiming for a slightly sexier Doctor Who. They kinda hit that target with Gillan - she is kinda good-looking, although her on-screen accent kills her character for me. Not that that's a bad thing: I do still enjoy a good Doctor Who episode. =)

Side Note: I've only seen part of the first Matt Smith season. Living in New Zealand, we've only seen the second season (I think. Not exactly sure).

In my opinion Matt is doing a great job as The Doctor. Sure he's not Tennant but the fact that The Doctor can be different in each incarnation is one thing that makes the show so interesting. This Doctor just happens to be over the top and quirky. Actually, I might go as far as to say that Matt may be my favorite Doctor yet. Overall, he's a wacky guy sporting a bow tie who travels through time and space under the title of "The Doctor." What's not to love?

I like the Eleventh Doctor. At first not so much as I thought he was trying too hard to be a parody of David Tennant, but halfway through his first season the personality clicked for me.
And as you mention, it's not like the Doctor has not been a goof before. The 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 7th all had their funny sides, and Tennant and Eccleston were not without humour either. Actually there hasn't really been a Doctor who was all serious yet, humour has always been a large part of the series. It began as a children's series after all!

Smith simply has the near impossible task to live up to David Tennant. Tennant was a great Doctor, maybe the best yet, and Smith, while good, is no Tennant.

I can only comment on the 2010 season since I'm waiting until the 2011 season is completed then I'll watch it all in one sitting. Honestly, it's not Matt Smith that I don't dislike about the first season with him, it's the writing. With the three seasons with David, there were subtle hints dropped here and there leading up to the grand finale (even with the special last episode with David and The Master) or episodes right before it. With Smith's first season, it felt like the writers were trying to beat me over the head with the 'hint' of something to come.

It's similar to restaurant customers saying they liked the seasoning on their dish, that it added a nice hint of flavor that melded with the other flavors. So the chef goes back into the kitchen and says, "More is better I guess." and dumps the entire seasoning jar into the next meal.

I liked David Tennant as the doctor the most, he was just more "loopy" and crazy than the others, however I did like christopher Eccleston since he shows the doctor's more destructive side.
Well said.

Tennant had three, Smith is on his second. Oh the irony

My favorites are Sylvester Mccoy, David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston. I think Matt smith is doing a good job though, although i only really started liking his doctor after watching 'the pandorica opens' (It took me that long to find him likeable, but once i saw that episode i wasn't afraid to admit he's a good doctor). The thing is, Tennant isn't exactly an easy act to follow but trust me, once Smith goes people will go on to hating the next doctor for a while.

OT: People have bitched about a new doctor with EVERY SINGLE REGENERATION so far, so don't worry...people will mellow out on him sooner or later. This isn't anything new.

I think Smith is one of the best Doctor incarnations so far. He's got that perfect... alien character, you know? He's not human in the slightest, like Tennant was. In fact, looking back, Tennant played the Doctor more like a human than a Time Lord, and I was just too distracted by his amazing acting ability to really notice. I mean, at times the Time Lord showed through, yes, but for the most part, he was just... goofy.

Smith, though... just watching him, you can tell that something is just a little bit off in everything he does, and I love it.

I think Eccleston will always be my Doctor, though, and not just because he was my first. He just portrays all that gravity and loss of being the last of his race, and having all that responsibility so beautifully. "Just this once, everybody lives." I mean, jeez.

Abbyshot is where I got my Tennant trench coat from.

I'm thinking that there may be a certain resentment of him for replacing David T. That would be stupid of course, David quit, he wasn't fired or replaced against his will. To my understanding.
It was Russel T. Davies' writing that caused this. D: No really look at this guy discuss it

Personally I think Matt Smith is the best Doctor yet, and my previous favourite doctor was Tom Baker so you know he's gotta be good.
