I was on reddit recently just browsing and I found this video ripping-off Yahtzee but instead of just being a normal, annoying fancast it was a rant about Gamestop from a person who worked there. Some of the things that this guy said during the three part rant actually made me angry at gamestop for how evil it is. So here it is:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHVepwrFTLA

I think that this mini-documentary makes some really good points about the stupidity and down right illegality of the Gamestop system.

Edit:

Sorry I forgot to warn you that the guy is a chronic mumbler, you may have to get past that.

And for those interested there are two other parts which deal with other aspects of the gamestop corporate culture:

part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh5dGE5eZ0A&feature=related

Part 3.1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxApoyEePfU&feature=related

Part 3.2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FZuneF_Yt0&feature=related

Quick reminder: The first part only really deals with how Gamestop rips people off. For the really evil parts see parts 2 and 3.

I like how alot of the hate for gamestop comes from the trade in program.

usually by people who think their madden 2002 should still be worth money.

Just like any second hand market. These people clearly never traded in a car or something similar.

Honestly why should GameStop stop using a system that people use? It's not GameStop's fault that you were blind enough to go through with the trade, and they aren't even forcing you to sell your games there. It's all your choices and your actions. Don't blame someone over your blind judgement.

You make a good point but I think this video is intended to show people not to use gamestop. I posted it here to...I hate to use the term....I guess.....raise awareness?

The dude in the video should learn to speak. I watched, like, 15 seconds and cut off my ears already.

OT: Don't care about GameStop, but I know they're ripping everyone off. But profit is profit and if it IS illegal then why haven't people already done something about it.

Okay, i had to stop watching the video at 3.03 minutes, because this guy mumbles so hard, i not even couldn't understand him, but his foice makes me angry.

And for the "buying games for 5$ and selling it for 20$", its called economic activity !

Boy, you claim to have worked at gamestop, but do you even understand the system ?
When you buy a game at gamestop, do you really belive you pay for the game alone ?

No

You pay for the risks a company has.
Like the risk of theft, risk of technologic obsolescence, you pay for their fixed costs, like employees, rent, power, heat, water.

If you realy don`t get the principal of economics, then PLEASE stop working in companys that make money with trading products.

And PLEASE stop making videos and tell everyone you don't understand such a easy thing like trading, you just make a fool out of yourself !!

Gamestop is retail. Gamestop is lower on the hierarchy of video game than Digital Distribution.

Yeah. I tend to prefer Amazon for my selling, but sometimes (a lot of the time) I can't be bothered to get shipping envelopes for any game I'm selling, so I hit up GameStop.

If alternatives were easier to come by then it wouldn't be such a problem. I too have a great gamestop with staff, but here's what I do. Buy used, play game for 7 days, return 7th day for full refund. I've gone through 4 or 5 games like that running on the same $. Infamous, Star Wars FU, Bioshock, Pop Forgotten Sands, and others. I have points and credit that I'm able to pre-order Portal 2 for 7 bucks instead of 60.

If ebay was faster, I'd be using that more. Just don't have the patient to wait I guess.

Guy in the video makes his point horribly.
But Gamestops trade in (mainly their re-selling) policy is very crooked.

Sell your game for $9
They retag it at $35
0% of revenue goes to publishers.

Gamestop = Ka-Ching.

We're all quite aware, but instead of moaning I just buy my games elsewhere and sell them on e-bay (and usually get more than I originally paid anyway). Or Steam.

This just in.

Gamestop is a company. It doesn't care about you. If you don't like Gamestop, go somewhere else.

I personally prefer to buy used games at my local used games shop, because I like the owner. Hell, I live an hour away from them now, and I still go there occasionally to pick through their selection.

But when I'm just buying a new game or don't have time to go an hour out of my way? I go to Gamestop. Because I prefer to buy used. Because I'm cheap.

Funnily enough I only ever use Steam now. The prices are pretty much the same as a used game, sometimes less. The library is amazing. It supports the indie gaming market. I can chat to my mates easily. Also I don't have to deal with any stupid arse motion controls in my life. Now, many of you may be saying "but you're missing out on so many great games". I'm clearly not missing out on MY great games. Honestly the only thing I really play on a console anymore is Pokemon, although that's gonna change around the 3DS launch but meh.

Gamestop are just taking advantage of the stupidity of humanity...and you know what? I say all the more power to them. If people aren't going to do the research for the cheapest market, then they're bound to get ripped off.

The guy's diction is terrible, and some of the analogies fall flat owing to his somewhat flat delivery. But I admire the amount of work he put in to it.

I also like some of the off-hand direct references to Yahtzee's work, like how he now understands why Yahtzee uses all upper-case text, so that it will be more readable in 360-pixel eyestrain-o-vision. (Some of us chose 720p for that very reason.)

And yes, GameStop is evil. I never spend money there.
