Why hasn't the consoles jumped on the keyboard/mouse bandwagon yet.

The more important question is: "Why haven't P.Cs jumped on the put the disc in the machine and play without installing bandwagon?"

I'm one of those strange folks who actually think the Wiimote and Nunchuk is the best thing to play FPS with. When do I get to start up a bandwagon?

Yeah, and a lot of people prefer K/M...so what's the shock horror??
SHOCK HORROR is an extremely sarcastic phrase.

I own two joypads for PC. I prefer to play shooters with keyboard at my left hand and joypad in my right. And for the record I hate mice; I've used only trackballs for the last, I dunno, 15 years. Mice are just clunky.

It does still surprise me a little that consoles haven't adopted keyboard-like hardware. Keyboards are so damn handy.

I'll never use a keyboard and mouse again my kills in first person shooters double when I play on a pc with a xbox controller. Today playing MW2 on my buddy's laptop I had my first 30 kill session in a fps ever and that was with a paddle. I have never came close to that on a console.

Some people like using the controller, some people like using the mouse and keyboard.

The left side goes to the pc and the right side goes to the Xbox or the PS 3, if not something older if that's their taste.

And ofcourse, the lower side goes to the Wii (Yay trolling the wii?)

Personaly, I prefere the mouse and keyboard.

Because PC jumped right into eliminating the need for pesky, old fashioned discs bandwagon, and surpassed the need entirely. It is a curious point though. But its probably boring, programming reasons.

I think there is a very good point here. Keyboard and Mouse is not for everyone, Ill grant you, but I'm sure there are enough people who have a console as there game machine of choice, but would love a mouse and keyboard. If it were an option, a lot of people would use it, spend there money to get it, and it would improve there gaming experience. But there's a few technicalities. First, maybe programing a mouse mouses movement is different from programing a controller? A mouse is capable of different kinds of movements, maybe it's a matter of programming, and translating a mouse directly to a consoles game would be too awkward? I can't back that idea up though. Second, there is a matter of Icons. A controller and a couch is a marketable symbol. Mix that up, and you lose some iconic imagery. Might threaten sales in some way. Most likely though, it is game balance. It's hard to say this without being accused of PC Elitism. So okay, whatever your console of choice is, rock on. If you play on Consoles, you are just as skilled as a PC player. You're having just as much fun. There is nothing to be elitist over as a PC gamer, it's all a matter of taste. But...a mouse is quicker and more accurate. It just is. If you prefer a controller, that's fine. Bruce Lee with his fists versus Clint Eastwood with a gun, Clint Eastwood would win. A Gun is a more deadly weapon. But that does not say anything bad about Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee rocks, no question about it. There respective expertise is equally awesome, and you can't just throw the 2 at each other, look at there effectiveness in combat, and expect that to mean anything. And that is what might make a K+M setup on a console unbalancing. It's bringing a gun to a knife fight, when knife fighting is indeed pretty damn impressive. There not going to appeal to sizable minority by risking the fun of everyone.

The keyboard and mouse are not the supreme controls, but the controller is not supreme either. To build on from the post, I'm sure you can port the keyboard and mouse onto the console, possibly through third party support.

People are more than welcome to prefer one over the other but for FPS games the mouse is an objectively better input device. It is capable of a speed an precision far beyond anything a gamepad is capable of.

Try pulling this stuff off with thumbsticks:

Play an FPS with a gamepad if you prefer it. It is somewhat more comfortable for long periods than m+kb. Don't argue that a gamepad is a better fps controller because it's demonstrateably untrue.

An anecdote: I don't know how many of you played Shadowrun from a couple years ago, but it's the only FPS that allowed PC/Console cross platform play I can think of since Quake 3 on the Dreamcast. The developer gave the console players a mild auto-aim assist and limited the PC player's turn rate because otherwise the controller using console players simply couldn't compete.

That's so funny, I asked my friend just this morning why at least there are no mouses for the Wii.

Because controllers just feel much more better than a keyboard and a mouse, especially the xBox 360 controller, because they were made with the players hands in mind. I'm not saying they're better than a Keyboard/Mouse, just that they feel more comfy. Personally, I prefer a K/B when playing FPS/RTS, but other than that, I go with a controller for the PC.

Mainly because I am sitting or lying in a couch or chair when I am playing and would have to move a table around, might as well get a desk come to think of it. And if I were to go through all that hassle I might as well just wander over to my desktop and leave my living room the way it is.

because all you would end up with is a computer, that isnt as good as one that you could have built yourself am a console gamer but have played a few games on the pc in the past and there for have came more ust to playing on a controller rather than mouse, i cant speak for everyone but am geusing most other console gamers would feel the same way so not many people would go for it well not straight away at least and am geussing most pc gamers wouldnt find this a new reason to go on to consoles because even though the controller has been swaped for somthing there more ust to and find better for gaming it would just be a down grade from there pc's

Dont get me wrong am not aganst the option of being able to use a mouse and keybourd i just think it wouldnt catch on much.

You can always rig Linux onto your PS3 "fat", and you can use a keyboard and mouse then.
