It's very difficult and doing so could destroy entire ecosystems because mosquitoes are a large part of the food chain.

Because they breed is massive quantities, faster than humans can reproduce. Fortunately, we have the means to combat the diseases they spread but such initiatives require billions of dollars and dozens of years of blood and sweat to exterminate.

Because the ecosystem is not a big truck. It is a series of tubes. You can't just fuck with it.
Hah! They were around before the dinosaurs. If you cut the head of a cockroach it will carry on for a day or two. Tough little bastards that will out-live humans.

Oh yeah, sure. We're sharing the planet with other creatures, and we eliminate some of them simply because they're inconvenient to have around.

That sort of thinking can lead to terrible things.

Trying to eliminate them would most likely do great damage to the ecosystem. It is futile. What right do have in eliminating them anyways?

we kill more than they do. there annoying as hell, granted, but there still part of life. if one animal goes, a hell of a lot of others are disrupted.

Okay here's the plan:
First, you have to get billions of dollars in funding from the governments of the world. The fastest way to do this would be to collect the savings from getting the US government to stop manufacturing pennies for the next 6 months. Then you have to invest a billion or so into lethal orbital laser technology. After the research and development are completed, rig it onto about a dozen satellites and send them into orbit. Then, and this is the most crucial part, superheat the Earth's surface. This will make the planet uninhabitable for the mosquitoes and your problem will be solved, provided you were on your specially designed Moon colony you developed before your project.

Gee, although all they do is infect us they do a lot of things you don't notice. They feed animals that are directly useful to humans. The kill of a lot of pests to society by infecting. These are only two reasons and they are off the top of my head.

And really, mosquitoes? That's the most annoying thing in your area? What about ants, those bastards wont leave you alone.

Mosquitoes are an important part of the ecosystem, what's important is to cure the diseases they cary, not to kill all mosquitoes in existence.

They are resilient and hippies protect them. I think we should develop a virus that kills them but causes no harm to humans.
