Pretty sure that they don't consider it a problem. And how many 'faggots' actually try to shove their arses in your face? Or do you mean flaunt their sexuality?

OT: Thought the video was really good, made some very good points. Always a fan of sarcasm, so getting arguments across that way is always good
I'm glad you counter the mention of flaunting sexuality. I've always found it interesting how a heterosexual talking about their girlfriend, holding hands with someone, talking about love and relationships in general or just hanging out with other people who happen to be heterosexual is fine and normal, but if a homosexual does those exact same things and hangs out with a group of friends who happen to be gay, they are flaunting their sexuality, lol. It either is or isn't, people! Make up your mind XD

The video I found quite humourous. Although I can't see posting it as anything else other than trollbait as it is rather... obnoxious at the same time. Some people will be too dumb to take it how its supposed to be taken and will see it as an attack against homosexuality.

Plus there is the fact its your very first post.
I dunno. My avatar is a rainbow, my name has rainbow in it and the video is supremely sarcastic. You really think it'll go over anyone's head? You think too little of your Escapst brothers and sisters! :p
You give some people a little too much credit, especially on such a touchy subject as homosexuality. I'm sure there will be at least a few people who will have only based their comment on the title of this thread.
And FUCK THOSE PEOPLE. Anyone who will comment in a thread without giving the OP so much as a cursory glance deserve the scorn and derision of their peers.

I saw this thread title, and was like "Oh, HELL no." and was fully ready to argue with you for the rest of the day.

Then I saw the video. I like it. Its my sort of humour (ie, mocking people by showing the idiocy in their opinions)

Welcome to the Escapist :)
Good to be here! Thank you kindly <3

Well articulated. I'm surprised I haven't seent his before. I love the bit about America being a theocracy. That almost rings true seeing that it wasn't until recently that Wiccan soldiers had their religion recognized or were allowed to have a pentacle on their gravestones after dying for their country.
I don't know much about the Wiccan religion. From what I've seen it's centered around the idea that there is a female spirit type being (a mother) that created or is a large part of the universe -- almost druidic in nature. Seems like a religion to me. A religion based on love and, again with my little knowledge on the issue, one that is accepting of everyone. Kinda like a more theistic spiritualism and Buddhism, I think. Oh, and they believe in a sort of magic.

Why would anyone not wish to recognize that belief system as a religion?
I agree with your sentiment. Though America has "freedom of religion" many of our laws and mores reflect our largely Puritan roots. A brief study of medieval and colonial history would reveal that witches were not well received or tolerated. Though Wicca is a modern religion with a hodgepodge of philosophies and influences, it is still highly linked to the witches of yore. A few years ago a judge actually forbade a pagan/Wiccan couple to raise their child pagan since the child's enrollment in a Christian school (the only private school accessible in the region) would "confuse" the child. I believe this is a gross abuse of the judge's power and the pagan community did have a petition to have that judge disbarred (last i heard it failed and the pagan couple actually had their constitutional freedom of religion violated.)
In order to keep this thread from being derailed I would like to make the assertion that persecution of homosexuals is actually a RELIGIOUS issue and violates the first amendment rights of homosexuals. Legally their should be no distinction between homo and heterosexuals and the persecution seems to come from a religious perspective. Should a portion of the population be persecuted because some people pick and choose parts of Leviticus? I find it funny that they are so concerned about homosexuality but care not for the prohibition of mixing wool and linen, not allowing the disabled to be priests (including those with poor vision!), and killing children who curse their parents. If a book is going to dictate how you live your life and especially how you enforce your views upon the lives of others, you shouldn't just pick and choose what you like based on your own aesthetic preferences. I feel bad that homosexuals (and pagans) have to suffer persecution based upon ancient and outdated mores that do not belong in modern society.
I wouldn't say it's a religious issue. There are religious groups that condemn homosexuality (with some Christian groups being possibly the most vocal here in the West) but religion itself (not the gods or rules that are worshiped therein) is created by men and reflects the feelings of those men. Ultimately it's an issue of hate. Religion is just used as a vessel all too often.

Exactly, it's a flawed argument: 'I don't mind what gay people get up to in their own home, but I don't want them parading it in front of me'. Yet it's fine for heterosexual people to do all the same things that people get upset about homosexuals doing in public. It's got to be all or nothing, to take offence at one and not the other is obviously to show prejudice.

I dont't hold anything againts gay people - what they do in their bedrooms is their problem. The video is good and the guy expreses some valid and som invalid reasons.

But I think we should ban gay pride parades.I can't imagine how you can gain support to your cause by dressing in abnoxiously coloured dress pretending to be a woman.Plus the word parade go buy a dictionary and find the meaning of that word.
I simply can't imagine that some people with any sence of moral would go around parading with their sexuality.

I seriously don't want to get into an argument, so sorry if it sounds like that, but the idea of Gay Pride parades is exactly that; having pride in who you are.

You don't see any Heterosexual Pride parades, because theres no need to. Its "the norm", and when was the last time someone was repressed simply because they were heterosexual? Gay Pride parades are a way of standing up to people who would otherwise either pretend that gay people didn't exist, or rally against them. Showing unity through a parade is the easiest way of presenting a solid front against people like that.

And whats the difference between a gay man hitting on you, or a woman hitting on you (if you're a heterosexual man). Its preference. A gay man might be offended and upset when hit on by a woman, just as much as a straight man when he's hit on by a gay man.

I agree completely. There are certain things I understand, like not wanting to see people make-out in public, but that is often used as a mask. People say they are fine with homosexuals but don't want them or heterosexuals to show public displays of affection. Makes sense. I'm fine with public displays, but that's just my opinion. What I'm not okay with is those same people turning around and suggesting anything a homosexual does in public id flaunting their sexuality. Makes me mad, lol.

Your parents don't approve of homosexuality? Damn. That's gotta blow if you happen to be gay as well.

I'm not gay, but I accept homosexuality (obviously :p). My parents are dead-set (more my mum than my dad) anti-homosexuality and they're proud and vocal of it.
More like embarrasing, they are. *shakes head*

Aw. That's a shame. My parents couldn't care less about sexuality -- a complete non-issue to them (and me).

I suspect there may be rules against misleading thread titles, however, I also think there should be (less policeable) rules against posting to a thread without consuming its content.

On this occasion, arguably the thread title is accurate (that's what the video is entitled and "about") and its been intentionally, but without malice. Plus I was most entertained, so I'm definitely not reporting it.

PARADE
1 : a pompous show : exhibition

2 a : the ceremonial formation of a body of troops before a superior officer
b : a place where troops assemble regularly for parade

3 a : an informal procession
b : a public procession
c : a usually lengthy array or succession

4 a : a place for strolling
b : those who promenade

Well now here is the definition for you because you can't seem to look it up yourself. Now I know I might just be feeding the troll a bit here but I can't resist. So you don't want to see " faggots " like myself showing off & doing what makes us feel good about ourselves. And no I don't mean the " ass showing off " part of your rant, to be honest I am just not sure what that was about actually. But from what I get is you are against gay public showing of affection. Did you ever stop to consider that some people might have a problem with straight public affection? Anyway I just find it so funny when people like yourself come on the forums to display their ignorance, it does give me a chuckle. Maybe in the future you can think more into how you express your opinions, I am not usually a grammar nazi but come on at least get the little words correct. It helps when trying to make valid points.

PS

Next parade I going to wear the best dress I can find just for you. ; )

OP: Good video. I greatly enjoy satire as a form of argument :)

As to the topic of gay marriage, I'm a bit neutral on the matter. On one hand, I have absolutely no problem with legal homosexual marriage. I think it's a great practice that gets gay couples the benefits of a married couple, such as insurance prices or hospital visiting privileges.

On the other hand, I'm not quite comfortable with the idea of a homosexual couple being married in a church or other religious establishment (Unless of course that religion supports gay marriage. In which case go ahead.)

Basically, I've got no problem with acknowledging the rights of a gay couple to get married. But, we should also pay attention to the right of a church/place of worship to deny a gay marriage since, as far as I'm aware, most religions state that homosexuality is a sin. It would be rather unfair to force them to go against their beliefs.

Thoughts?

I'm sorry if this is at all offensive of me to ask, but given the context of the reply, it seems you are transgender? Just curious as I find transgirls really cute ^^
