The game world is so detailed and thorough...they didn't skimp on anything. You can get lost in this game and really appreciate it if you would just get rid of your preconceived notions.

And as for the enemies...come on, Oblivion has flying gargoyles, the same damn demon dudes over and over, and simple wildlife. I'll take a super mutate molerat type beast over a wolf any day of the week.
I DON'T WANT TO ARGUE I just want to say your first point (at the top of the quote) is exactly how I feel about Oblivion, with its highlands and forests and snowy mountains.

I think Oblivion enemies suit the fantasy genre. And I'm quite the opposite I would much rather fight a wolf or bear than a mutated molerat purely because I like the little bit of real world splashed in there.

But yeah your right I left out what was good about fallout, but this is a thread on why I hate it so I figured I would unbalance my argument with that/those points.

Sorry about that, its been bugging me for ages tho...
Hah thats ok but I think handing over the money gives you the right to ***** about something you don't like too ;)

It takes a whole runthrough just to learn how to play... there is hardly any 'learning' element... it's just 'we've given you this' and i go "wtf is 'this'?" then they go 'A pip boy'
and I go "Okayyy"
and then you have to figure out that nicking everything slows you down.
No it doesn't tell you these major things.
You just hit the limit and go "WHY AM I SO SLOW?"
and then it says you are overloaded and you go... WTF DOES THAT MEAN? DO I NEED MORE PILLS? AM I DYING?

A new gamer wouldn't be able to start the game. And I've played for years so i got into megaton after a lot of screwing around and just shot the doctor in the face and turned off the computer.

So, right, let me get this straight: You've never played the originals, correct? Then your view is invalid, and you're not entitled to complain about the game, unlike myself, who has played Fallout 1 and 2 in depth, and therefore has the entitlement to complain about the third game in the series.
On behalf of the entire internet, I'd just like to say...

Fuck you, you self-righteous little ****.

Fallout 1 and 2 are old games. Games that I myself wouldn't give the time of day to, because I just find them so outdated, and so different to Fallout 3, that I can't be arsed with them.

That doesn't mean I "don't have the right" to comment on Fallout 3; it means I have more right than you to comment, because I am judging Fallout 3 as a stand-alone game, not simply spewing Fanboy bullshit!

Until you've played the originals, you really haven't got much of a clue about where Bethesda went wrong (and indeed, where it got things right). I hereby rescind the validity of your rant against the series until you've played 1 and 2, and realised exactly why they're retrofuturistic, and where the Brotherhood of Steel actually came from.
Again, a load of crap. You don't need to know anything about Fallout 1 and 2 to appreciate the highs, and lows, of Fallout 3. I went in blind, so to speak, and I was extremely satisfied with the game.

Hell, I feel it is a better game if you don't know what to expect. Your character is meant to know nothing of the outside world, and as I too knew nothing of Fallout, it reeled me in hook, line and sinker the moment I stepped out of Vault 101 for the first time.

I get what the "World of Tommorrow" theme is all about. I get who the Brotherhood of Steel are, and what they are doing. I didn't get that right away, but that's because I, like the Vault Dweller, only knew what other people told me... or what I could hack out of a computer terminal.

Whilst I could list many flaws in Fallout 3, I will instead point out that I am very pleased with what Bethesta accomplished. More than anything, I am glad they never listened to fucking retards like RAKtheUndead, because if they had listened to these fucking retards then Fallout 3 would have played like a game released a decade ago... and it would have tanked so hard the impact crater would have nuked the company off the map.

Brotherhood of Steel is a pretty cool name tbh, in the context and world of the game.

I mean the real goverments wouldnt call themselves "Enclave" either.

I don't get how people can get 'lost' in Fallout 3 so easily... you come out of Vault 101, there's a town dead ahead. You go there, it has signposts to Megaton. From there, the game will hold your hand through the entire main storyline.

The only way to get lost, in short, is to do it deliberately.

Also, if you can't work out what the messages in Fallout 3 mean, you must be the sort of retard who doesn't think to check their ammo when their gun stops working.

I didn't like the game because every two feet I had to kill some very unrealistic and strong mutant/ghoul/lobster. It really deterred me from doing anything for anyone or going anywhere when it'd take me half an hour to get through a section of the metro tunnels. Shouldn't the game be more scarce and eerie rather than exploding with life and grindy?

Lets be clear, I don't like Fallout 3. Where ever it fell out of, it wasn't a nice place. But allow to express my reasons:

*note: I am completely unfamiliar with other Fallout games.

1. I am a massive Oblivion fan (insanely modded of course), but I still played vanilla oblivion and enjoyed it immensely. As such I was optimistic for fallout 3. In comparison to Oblivion, Fallout 3 has worse environments, less immersive scenery and what I call 'ridiculous' wildlife. I mean, somehow I expected it to be more realistic. Super mutants look absurd and speak ridiculously. There are crab things and giants. I thought hundreds of years of radiation would have made things look, well, more deadspacey. Not make them stronger.
Never played Oblivion - looks crap. If I wanted to play a D&D clone, I'd remember I have the actual D&D rules, and so not bother with the knock-off.

The whole "rads = stronger" cliche is used everywhere, not just Fallout.

2. Retrofuturism: This is purely personal taste but the I can't stand the 1950s theme of the game. I mean, I understood it, I figured the bombs fell in the 1950s. But when I was informed the bombs sometime in our future in made no sense whatsoever. I just don't get the 1950's theme when culture developed way more past the 50s.
It's an alternate timeline where the 'World of Tomorrow' idealism of the 1950s never went away. I'd say that's one of the best parts of Fallout 3 - it makes the setting unique.

3. The voice acting is worse than oblivions, and that's saying something.
Can't comment there, but I don't think it was THAT bad...

4. I CANT JOIN THE BAD GUYS!!!! I completely agreed with what the enclave was doing, screw the irradiated and save what's left of the world. But you can't join them, what's up with that?!?!
Oblivion had so many factions to join, you could really play how you wanted to. That brings me to 5.
I do agree with this - I would like to be able to do more things my own way... such as blowing Dad away and becoming Supreme-Lord-Dictator of the Wasteland.

5. Ok, seriously, who thinks that the 'Brotherhood of Steel' is a cool name? It sucks. Its an awful name for the people you have to join. It reminds me of the homosexual steel mill workers from 'The Simpsons'.
It makes them sound like a Space Marine Chapter (which they may as well be), or possibly a Heavy Metal band. Either way, kudos for the fucking awesome name!

6. This is a pet hate but; in any game with guns: THERE SHOULD BE IRONSIGHTS!!!!! I get so annoyed when I right click to raise the gun to my eye level and it doesn't happen. That is such a big immersion killer for me. I know its not an FPS..... but still, it drives me insane. Any good game with guns has sights of some kind. And snipers don't count, I need that ability for all weapons except the obvious ones (big ones). EH!
I don't actually like ironsights... I find it makes it harder for me to hit things because the gun itself obscures my vision. I'm fine with just hip-shooting and sniper-scopes.

7. I couldn't get immersed in the story because I had discovered within 2 hours of the game that its setting was so ridiculous that I just didn't care. Sure I was mildly impressed with the tutorial and saw some realism ( I think) in the poorly named RAD ROACHES but when you get outside...the guns have no sights and the environment is insanely dull.
Yes I blew up megaton, and thought it was boring. Then I killed everyone in that tower because I didn't care. The story just didn't pull me in, it may have worked wonders for you, but for me it was all too far fetched.
It's set in post-apocalyptia... honestly, I think you have no right to ***** about the setting; you damn well knew what you were getting into the moment you looked at the front cover and saw the guy in Power Armour.

I don't like oblivion its a crappy morrowind knock off and thuslly FO3 is a crappy OB knock off tho I don;t hate/loath it as much.

FO1-2 Had stationary plants that fired seeds at you, wolves, rats, pig rats, mole rats(almost the size of a cow), wondering poor almost zombie like, wondering families/farmers(fun to watch them fight raiders, and anythign else ),Geckos(human child sized walking lizards) along with whatever is in FO3, the only huge change is the Deathclaw which instead of being muscular/top heavy like a body builder, purple and have a 3 stalk eye setup they were turned into thin generic demons for FO3, BTW anyone fix that mod wise yet?.

In most sci fi,Radiation=mutation= meaner.

They really avoided the whole forest issue FO1-2 had some forests in it she the trees were in piss poor shape, ect but expanding on a mutated/dark forest them with plant based human/mutant/animal based zombie with more plant monsters in there then add 2 more plant monster types a walking stalk that a mobile turret version of the sitting immobile plant and then a floaty one that's like the bloat fly only has a weaker machine gun like weapon, think zelda shrub with a FO3 stylized artistic theme.

2. Retrofuturism: This is purely personal taste but the I can't stand the 1950s theme of the game. I mean, I understood it, I figured the bombs fell in the 1950s. No its a whole retro future setup and even if it was not and the bombs did fall in the 50s when you had portable Tesla machines, full rang of fusion/fussion dvices, ect you'd wind up with the same apocalyptic setup.
3. The voice acting is worse than oblivions, and that's saying something.
I can not tell the difference and I put in at elast 10 hours into ob....
4. I CANT JOIN THE BAD GUYS!!!! I completely agreed with what the enclave was doing, screw the irradiated and save what's left of the world. But you can't join them, what's up with that?!?!

Typical bethseda over site...... they should fire the middle managers....

5. Ok, seriously, who thinks that the 'Brotherhood of Steel' is a cool name? It sucks. Its an awful name for the people you have to join. It reminds me of the homosexual steel mill workers from 'The Simpsons'.
Its only been in all the games...... that and I find muscle bound mostly bald men in action titles to be uber gay and generic more than vague titles and names.
6. This is a pet hate but; in any game with guns: THERE SHOULD BE IRONSIGHTS!!!!! I get so annoyed when I right click to raise the gun to my eye level and it doesn't happen. I hate iron sights with a passion much much much prefer cross hairs, would be nice if it was a option but the industry sucks at options these days....

I can say the same for obba(ya I'll call oblivion obba, like abba but worse :p, I dunno FO3=fk hole 3? lulz), story was weak but not really that bad, it just falls apart after 10ish hours then collapses after 15-20 since they didn't bother to finish the game.... it got put on the merket to sell DLC and nothing more... if you can't mod it or apply mods(console versions) you were robed.
I will say that one of the few parts of the game I liked was in the virtual reality land with your dog dad, but that got boring quickly too.
meh its all samey with a few good dailog bits and maybe 2 fun weapons....

In conclusion, I don't like Fallout 3, I really, really don't. I'm sure people will flame me or whatever but remember this is purely personal opinion.
Its a mediocre game that was rushed to market, same as 80% of the rest of games released these days.

Fallout 3 is a boring game, I garnered much more enjoyment from the originals.

Mostly because they weren't whoring a franchise, they were making a GAME.

I didnt like the game for the same reasons, enviroments were dull, combat was dull, characters were dull, the story was dull.
But thats just my opinion, i too was a big oblivion fan, and i will get flamed for this, but fallout 3 just felt like oblivion with guns and bullet time

Oh when we people stop comparing them just because they have the same studio making them? They are two very different games, and FO3 fans don't give a crap that you didn't like it. If you didn't, you probably just didn't get it's real charm.

Also, I stopped reading at number 3. REALLY, are you THAT CRAZY? Oblivion had 5 actors, all of whom were in FO3 as well. Except the FO3 had another 30 actors so there wasn't a ton of redundancy in the voices. One of my biggest pet peeves of Oblivion was incidents like when a Redguard would converse with another Redguard, as the males only had the one voice.

Oh, and complaining about names that were created in the very first game, not horribly intelligent.

So wait. Lemme understand this. The uninteresting characters, redundant forest or mountaint setting, and horrible story in Oblivion are somehow not dull to you? Do you also eat paste and love the flavor? FO3 had some of the best designed environments ever to come out of Bethesda. Go into any of the random dungeons in FO3 and they aren't redundant crap or the same cave layout. Oblivion had the same 4 cave layouts repeated infinitely, same with Aylied ruins. The characters for the most part had actual character to them. And the story, well, okay. The main story is merely passable, but side stories are much better. (Broken Steel and the Pitt in particular are the best)

If can't appreciate the increase in style and substance of FO3 in those areas, I pity you. And inb4 Morrowind > Oblivion, which is so very true. Oblivion was crap compared to Morrowind, and is crap compared to FO3.

Whoring a frachise!? Tactics and brotherhood of steel were whoring the franchise. Bethesda breathed some life into the otherwise dead series.

To the OP, I disagree with your opinion but respect it, I hope you have better luck finding a game you like in future.

I have played a bit of Fallout Tactics so am not entirely qualified to say this but, I really dont see you can compare the two. For me fallout failed on its own flaws (and the way it stole every perk from the originals, but thats only very minor)

On Topic, Fallout 3 might be my favourate game of all time. I can't be arsed to defend it because everyone who hates it either brought it with no idea what they were getting, or decided that because it's not exactly the same as the last two it must be evil. I love it though.
