It sounds like a lot of fun . You may be surprised to get that in game "Hail!" sooner than you think.
Phew. Hard core, man, hard core. I know if my beloved Dwarf Guardian Moormur over in LOTRO were to get deleted, I would cry. But then, I would probably start up a new dwarf Guardian named Moormur, as I have considered starting him over so I can get some of the traits right from the start. And figure out that dual wielding is faster than single handed weapons to burn down enemies before level 51 (who knew?)ghirmeshk said:YesMoormur said:PPermadeath = Once dead, the toon is deleted?ghirmeshk said:Hey Shae, N,Shaenightbird said:I'm on Sarlona too, although since I'm probably at risk for assassination, I remain anonymous.![]()
Look me up some time. I have a capped fighter Windsheer. I also have Vernus, Ketterban and Ghirmeshk that are non-PD. I spend most of my time in Permadeath though, with Extreme Explorers. My PD toons are Kotels, Bajena, Junas, Gwak and Cabot. Please say high if you see me on.
Best,

Yeah. It takes a little getting used to, but it gets easier. It definitely puts the emphasis on team play and tactics. Losing your first char is rough on anyone though.Moormur said:Phew. If I'm not mistaken, there is an option for the camera to self adjust to your landscape in the UI or graphics settings bud. Hope that helps ya out a bit. I'll look to confirm. This is a game that would have benefited from a smart automatic camera angle adjuster.
Thelanis. But I have enough gold to buy an armor already. But I guess that if my Nintendo DS doesn't come today, I'll try to get my Bard a bit further.ghirmeshk said:You can buy armor in the store nest to the apothecary (between it and the bank in the harbor). Most of the quests I've done so far on both solo and normal difficulties. But now I encountered 2 quests during which not only I had problems, but I also died twice!
1. The "kill 200 kobolds" quest. 20 of them at a time? Even if only 1/20 hits me every round, they are are going to massacre me.
2. The "Kill the new leader" quest. Okay, his lieutanants weren't hard. But he was. After I got him to 1/3 health, he... I think so, Bull Charged me (not sure if there's such a feat here... but it looked like one) and from 23 health he got me to -2. I know it's probably because he hit me the second time after the charge, but still, double-tee-eph, mate?
Also, where can I buy some better... I dunno, armor? The starter robe (one with +20% 1st level spells damage, totally useless to Bards) is weak. Too weak.
So, in addition to being tightly coupled to the D&D 3.5 rules, Eberron is going for a "pulp/noir" feel. Part of that "pulp/noir" thing is a setting that has just survived an ugly, heartbreaking World War and is probably on its way to another one -- think Indiana Jones or Casablanca or something. The setting has just emerged from a hundred-year conflict between the successor-states of a great and powerful kingdom. Everybody calls it the Last War, but there are rumblings of another one on the horizon. I'm not sure how much of this shines through in DDO (having never played the game), since it's set on this other continent that was basically designed to be a big blank space for random dungeons. (I believe they dumped the Drow there in order to say "Yeah, you can't play traditional FR-style Drow in this setting, please don't try!")the antithesis said:One final note I'll make is the world. I'm not loving it. But then, I was not a fan of the new look Wizards of the Coast put on the game when they bought out TSR. It seems like they took the old joke "You, too, can have sex in spiky armor" that is used to describe the film Excalibur and applied it to everything. I'm no fan of Eberron. Mostly because it came out after I stopped caring. But looking at it now, I'm amazed at how little I like it. Probably the thing I like the least are the warforged you'd mentioned. I had no idea what they were, which makes it funny that they're a playable race. Since then, it's been hinted at that they're some sort of golem or magically-animated robot. Frankly, I just think they look stupid. C-3PO was a good side character, but I wouldn't want to play as him. So why would I want to play as his butch older brother? The same developer has also made Lord of the Rings Online, but I'm even less enthused by Middle Earth than I am Eberron
I loved the hell out of Guild Wars.the antithesis said:Interesting, before this I had tried Guild Wars, which has a criminally short trial period of only ten days or ten hours. (!) While diverting, I wasn't impressed enough to want to purchase it. But playing Dungeons & Dragons Online has made me look back much more charitably as several features of Guild Wars were sorely missed and some features Dungeons & Dragons Online brought to the table didn't enhance the proceedings. At least not in my opinion. I still have over a week for my trial, so I'll probably press on with little else to do with my time. But will I wind up subscribing? Well, as addicting as the gameplay of most MMO's tend to be, I seem to have little problem walking away after the trial ends for games I do like, such as City of Heroes. So, I donut think I'll be subscribing to Dungeons & Dragons Online anytime soon.
Ok, good. Well, I went ahead and subscribed and am now off the trial. So, I can now respond to tells. Someone sent me one while I was still on the trial and I couldn't respond. Sorry to whoever that was, if that was someone from these boards. But yes, I'd love any help/advice from someone who knows what they're doing...especially in regards to class building. ooohhh! Converts from LotRO!! Thelanis Server... Ask for Trissa.

1. Was Kobald Assault. Group area. Very fun with a group of proper level characters, it is hard to survive but can be quite fun.Abedeus said:Is it just me, or the quest difficulty shoots up after first island? Or maybe I shouldn't have left it yet with a level 2 bard...

DDO is active combat, not passive or turn based. This is not diablo, WoW, etc.the antithesis said:Back to Dungeons & Dragons Online. I have not tried an especially huge number of games, but in every single one of them, combat works like this:
* You select a target
* Your character walks over to the target
* Your character starts smacking the target until it falls down
Actually they aren't called lizardmen (or troglodites) because they are not lizards. They are Sahuagin, an evil race of fish folk that has existed in DnD monster lore for years, if not decades.the antithesis said:Ah, so I played a little more and it just keeps getting worse. I completed the startup mission. I don't know if there are several of these, but I got the one where you're a survivor of a shipwreck and you throw in with a female cleric and her buddies to fight lizard men. They aren't called lizard men in this game, but some weird name because they think it's clever or adds something to the proceedings when it doesn't.
That is something I won't disagree about at all. I really wish those camera blockers would become transparent. Wait till you run around some of the much much older content. You'll have the dripping slime blocking your camera a lot. I find it very frustrating.the antithesis said:Part of the problem is I just can never find a good place to put the camera. This is one of those things that simply drives me crazy about these fully 3D games. Things are always getting in the way, like trees or stalagmites. It makes playing nearly impossible since you can't see. Dungeons & Dragons Online is worse than most that I've played because the underground labyrinths are much, much tighter and twistier. As are the above ground areas, come to think of it. This is a game that would have benefited from a smart automatic camera angle adjuster.
It will auto correct camera angle for landscape angle only. Not distance. The camera angle changing I found to be overly annoying myself, but it may work for others.Gumerk said:To Antithesis...

1. Kobold assult. At level 2 I'd not do it. You'll get swarmed to fast as an individual. Do it in a group. Also, look at the quest difficulty. That uses what is known as CR or challenge rating. Following DnD, CR is based on the difficulty it would be for a party of 4-6 players. CR is the same as character level. Kobold assult if I recall correctly has a CR of 4. Which means it should be the proper challenge for a group of 4-6 people that have an average character level of 4.Abedeus said:Is it just me, or the quest difficulty shoots up after first island? If you are definitely planning to do mostly solo, I would recommend picking up charm person as one of your 1st level bard spells (you can change out 1 spell every 3 days at a bard trainer for a small gold fee). You can only have 1 summoned monster at a time, but you can have as many charmed minions as you have power for. Get yourself an army of pink-hats and have your enemies kill each other. You can't charm boss mobs, and charm person only allows you to charm humanoid creatures, but in the early quests mosts of the badguys are humanoids. Just be careful for when the duration of your charms start running outAbedeus said:Thanks for the replies.
I'm going to buy an armor... As soon as they bring servers back running.
As for the OP attack... I'll guess I'll wait till I get something like Summon Monster so I can flank him.
About the armors and bards - I am aware I can cast freely up to Light armor. I mean, I have been playing DnD cRPGs for some time now...
