Well, it seems the majority here doesn't like America, well, guess what? I don't lie it either, I would like to go on vacation there only to see new things but... Country wise I don't even think they are average. Sorry if I offend anyone but as it's been said, their government is the uttermost corrupt well of power. Patriotism gets confused with fanaticism, culture wise I don't really see any real artists, sure there are some but not that big of a deal compared to the rest of the countries. What really makes me look down upon them is the blind bravado in which they chant "My country is the greatest" sure I think that about my country but I don't preach on it, also I have my own valid arguments which I have yet to hear from an american.
Not trying to offend but, give mics to thirteen year old american kids and it's the equivalent of launching a full scale attack on moral fibber and sanity.
Come on over. We like people, despite what you may have heard.
Americans, as a people, are different because of our notion of the 'melting pot' culture. Are we physically or socially "Superior"? Well, errr.....NO.
Do we celebrate our achievements? Yeah, and we should.
I think too much is made of the Americans that go around spouting off their opinions as if they were facts, and our media-based culture being thrown in the faces of everyone else world-wide probably doesn't help.
Our government is just as corrupt as any other one, but our system has established checks and balances that keep it in check. The fact that Americans' political mindset is that of a pendelum and we don't vote in three Presidents of the same party in a row also keeps it level.
America's government is no more corrupt than it could be for a nation its size.
As far as Patriotism and Fanaticism goes, Nationalism is in between and we are nowhere near the level of 1936 Germany.
America has plenty of artists; the nature of art is different, nothing more. I worked at a family-owned art gallery for 8 years. We like our stuff.
Lastly, no one likes "blind bravado", but you said it best when you mentioned that most of this came from the 13-year-old American kids, etc. I am 29 - most Americans are proud of our nation and our accomplishments.
We like other peoples, because America is formed of other peoples that have come together for a shared vision of freedom and prosperity.
