we're not better than any other economic superpower, but not worse either. it doesn't take a tremendous understanding of the human mind to realize that if one lives in one of the more powerful countries U.S., U.K., china, japan etc... then they'll generally think that their country is the best

There's no such thing as the USA. It's a myth perpetrated by the leaders of the Muslim world, who are in need of a Great Satan to keep the people distracted while they live like kings. They have callcentres and datacentres dedicated to generating all correspondence reportedly from America. All those US soldiers wandering around Iraq? Mercenaries paid to be there, pissing people off.

Between Canada and Mexico, there's a great rift that leads to the centre of the Earth. Canadians and Mexicans, the superstitious lot they are, keep well away from the precipice and don't mention it to anyone, for fear of demons stealing their souls.
While much of this is true, there is actually a little place right in the middle of this whole called Colorado. This place has some of the best mountains in the void for snowboarding, rock climbing, camping, etc.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Colorado is awesome...the rest of America, eh, it's ok.

It's a holdover from WWII mentality, I think. Propaganda about "AMERICA IS THE BEST, WE WILL WIN" dropped the "WE WILL WIN" (but it has come back as of 2003) for a while as everyone was content to think they were better than the rest of the democracy-hating world (despite America not being a true democracy). Admittedly I don't hold a lot of warm fuzzy feelings for America, but it's not that bad of a place in general. If you ignore Pat Robertson, Fox "News", and all the conservaties shouting about how they and their family are doing things the way they should be done, it's not that bad of a place. Unfortunately it can be hard to get past those things.

I'm a United Statsian (Yep, made it up) and I definitely don't find the U.S. to be anything spectacular. It's just a country, like the other 190ish countries in the world. I've never been much of a patriot and don't believe in things like "Better dead then red!" So, I guess I'm not the person to ask.
Alright someone else who understands that the US of A shouldn't be reffered to as America. I really don't understand how that got started either but we do sort of don't have a "Real" name as United States is more of a state of being than a name like Egypt, Japan, Britian or Russia are in comparison. to the point thought I'm not a Stars and Stripes Patriot either but I'd like to think I'm a decent Citizen.

I have lived in America all my life and I am proud to be a part of this country, good and bad. For example, how many places in the world would we not be able to have a discussion of this nature? What really gets me is Americans who claim this is "the greatest country in the world" without having been anywhere else. They make the rest of us look retarded.

Thanks captain awesome 12. Seems to be a decent group here, really diverse, yet seemingly respectful. Hope I don't spoil it. :)

Because we don't want to pour millions of pounds into a project to get us to a barren hunk of rock. If I want to go to a barren place with no atmosphere I'll just go to Eastbourne

LOL good one. Every country has good people and bad people, including America.

If anyone has a problem with Americans (the people), I'd love to be able to change their minds about that, and believe (like most Americans do deep down) that the best way to do so is to respectfully debate and discuss.

I get defensive when someone has a problem with America (the nation) though.

The US is (reasonably) the only nation founded upon a belief: All Men Are Created Equal. (although admittedly it took a while for us to really get that right....)

All other nations are based on ethnic cultures, peoples, or religions. By nature, American culture IS different. This isn't good or bad, but I would like to hope that those of other nations truly get to know us before passing judgment on us - one way or another.

BTW - the Brits rock too. Any people that can be a true friend in good times and bad (sometimes even when they know better) is simply that - a true friend. I've been lucky enough to travel to London and Portsmouth, and they are great folks.

Goodness no, not all of us. Not even half of us. Videos like this are really funny, though, because it showcases those of us who are ignorant and lets the majority of us giggle.

We can be a bit insular at times, admittedly, even self-absorbed. That's part of our charm, though - when someone on the other side of the planet needs help, we don't care who they are or how they feel about us - we are there to help. :)

Well, it seems the majority here doesn't like America, well, guess what? I don't lie it either, I would like to go on vacation there only to see new things but... Country wise I don't even think they are average. Sorry if I offend anyone but as it's been said, their government is the uttermost corrupt well of power. Patriotism gets confused with fanaticism, culture wise I don't really see any real artists, sure there are some but not that big of a deal compared to the rest of the countries. What really makes me look down upon them is the blind bravado in which they chant "My country is the greatest" sure I think that about my country but I don't preach on it, also I have my own valid arguments which I have yet to hear from an american.

Not trying to offend but, give mics to thirteen year old american kids and it's the equivalent of launching a full scale attack on moral fibber and sanity.

America has some beautiful landscapes and a proud tradition of independence and freedom. Unfortunately, we also have a bunch of people who want to destroy the land for money, and a bunch of others who vehemently disagree with the idea of giving freedom to everyone.

America has done some great things, but Bush has so degraded our standing in the eyes of the world as to make us seem much worse than we are. Plus, with the recession he gave us as a parting gift, it'll be difficult to change that without destroying ourselves economically.
Yes, because a single man has put economies all over the world into recession. it was just bad luck that the economic cycle hit these past 8 years like it has, but no single person can be held responsible for it. Sure, hes made incredibly stupid decisions, but you cant blame everything on him.
I think that most of the anti-American opinions here are a result of the Administration's foreign policy actions, economic conditions notwithstanding.

I personally dislike people who lump all Americans together based on one video. I'm sure I could go to New Zealand and interview hundreds of people on the street and put the stupidest ones online.

By your logic, I could say all people from New Zealand care about is rugby, racing, and beer and all men from New Zealand are "strong, unemotional, and prone to violence," according to:

Dude, I couldn't agree more. Thank you so much for posting this, and I hope you stick around in the forums long enough to contribute to more discussions like this, because believe me, this comes up every couple of weeks.

Anyways, I love America an think that it's awesome because from the moment of my birth, I am free to choose a path for my life, am not forced into military service or anything, and am well taken care of. I have a house, food, a career of my choosing, all thanks to people that WILLINGLY, they are not forced, to defend our great nation. There's a lot more reasons, but I don't want to rant.

Come on over. We like people, despite what you may have heard. :)

Americans, as a people, are different because of our notion of the 'melting pot' culture. Are we physically or socially "Superior"? Well, errr.....NO.

Do we celebrate our achievements? Yeah, and we should.

I think too much is made of the Americans that go around spouting off their opinions as if they were facts, and our media-based culture being thrown in the faces of everyone else world-wide probably doesn't help.

Our government is just as corrupt as any other one, but our system has established checks and balances that keep it in check. The fact that Americans' political mindset is that of a pendelum and we don't vote in three Presidents of the same party in a row also keeps it level.

America's government is no more corrupt than it could be for a nation its size.

As far as Patriotism and Fanaticism goes, Nationalism is in between and we are nowhere near the level of 1936 Germany.

America has plenty of artists; the nature of art is different, nothing more. I worked at a family-owned art gallery for 8 years. We like our stuff. :)

Lastly, no one likes "blind bravado", but you said it best when you mentioned that most of this came from the 13-year-old American kids, etc. I am 29 - most Americans are proud of our nation and our accomplishments.

We like other peoples, because America is formed of other peoples that have come together for a shared vision of freedom and prosperity.

I think America is awesome because it's the best country in the world to be a gamer in.

I think America is awesome because we are the only country to love the best sport in the world, football.

I think America is awesome because we have a section of government (the courts) that keep the idiots we elect to office in check.

I think America is awesome because we develop some awesome technology over here.

I think America is awesome because we have the best college system in the world.

I think America is awesome because, while it sometimes is a problem, we place much reverence on our freedoms, which I feel is important in order to maintain those freedoms.

Just a few reasons why I think my country is awesome. Not that it doesn't have it's own fair share of problems though...
