Y'know what I've noticed?
When a Christian meets an Atheist, it instantly turns to who's belief it the right one.
The Atheist begins talking about the science and the "false hope" and such, you know the drill.
Another thing. Why must a Homosexual pull out the rainbow flag? It's like their just asking for the attention. It can't just be: "I'm gay." It has to be "I'm GAAA-HAY-HAAAAY! And all you folks can eat it. Sodomy time!" And then, the protesters have to come out on streets and start shouting at passer-bys.

WHY? This could all be avoided if we could just shut the hell up about it, or at least respect it. Why jump out on the street and yell, "I'm [BELIEF} every body! SUCK IT!"

Because humans are attention whores who must always be right no matter what.

I don't think I need to say anything more.

You're WRONG! No one is up-in-your-face about their beliefs so just SUCK IT!

Just kidding. I agree. It gets excessive. I think it's all because people want to be so sure in what they believe. People hate being wrong. If god suddenly came and said "Yeah, I exist guys. Give it a break. Want an example of my powers?" *blows up Russia* People still wouldn't believe it because that would mean they were wrong. Their arguments were wrong. They'd feel shame, deep down, but they'd disguise it with pride or something.

That made me lol!

I don't know. I guess it's like anything. People always like to believe that they're right. No one likes being wrong, so they defend their belief with everything they got.

I have honestly never had an experience of someone shoving their beliefs in my face. The last time someone talked to me about religion I took one of their flyers and said no thank you.

Memory bias really mucks with our perception of how often events like this actually happen. It's completely unmemorable when people don't make a scene. I think you're just hearing a vocal minority over the silent minority. I've never actually seen a gay person really make a scene about being gay for no reason, starting to think it's a myth.

Why do people who don't know gays say that all gays act "GA-AAAAAY~!"?
Arguments about beliefs? Because both sides are so lacking in personal lives they have to waste time.

It's basically so that we can say a huge "fuck you" to all the people who discriminate against us.

Because everybody want to convert everyone else to their beliefs. We just need to ignore them and they'll leave.

I wonder if you've actually met a gay person or an atheist. Those sound an awful lot more like stereotypes than actual people. Revise what you're trying to say.

Methinks that you'd be perfectly okay with somebody being up-in-your-face about their beliefs so long as they conformed to yours.

I respectfully disagree?

I ave encountered a small selection of outcomes when contrary beliefs encounter one another.

Violent rebuttal of the others' beliefs.
Proselytism.
Mutual ignorance/avoidance.
Tolerance.
Lastly, and least common in my opinion, Investigation.

You are speaking of the first two, I believe.

I find as a general matter that atheists are the preachiest of all. As a man of faith myself, it comes off as insecurity and makes me think that denying one's spirituality can't be good for one's mental health (and indeed I was an atheist until finding the gods at age thirty and I've been much more tolerant of other faiths, even those radically different from my own, since then.)

Atheists come off as ignorant of one of the most basic elements of our humanity---the ability we have to look beyond ourselves and see reality in the permanently unprovable. It is a sense of wonder that cannot be so easily replaced by pure reason (which may in turn explain so many atheists' dogma about science---lacking an outlet for their spirit they find one in a very religion-like approach to empirical proof.)

Well, I have only been on this Earth a total of twenty-seven years I do admit, but I've yet to see a single person be uber in-your-face about anything like that, aside from online, which doesn't count for much.

In fact, the only time I've seen views clash like how you describe (aside from online) was in the pubs, when drinking, after discussion was already invited and all of it always ended in friendly disagreement and more drinking.

I really don't see what the trouble is. Maybe you need to hang in a different part of town, the non-absurd in-your-face part. Try the suburbs or something.

They're not.

It's just that the ones who are up-in-your-face tend to be incredibly obnoxious.

People like to believe that they're right about life. Any mention that they might not be immediately throws your average human into a mouth frothing, homicidal rage.

The loudest voice is always the one that gets noticed.

There is no room for moderates in this world.
