Why is everyone so up-in-your-face about their beliefs?

I think the hostility of the opposition fuels the flame.

Atheists are usually mocking.

Christians are generally blindly devoted and peaceful.

They rub off on each other the wrong way.

Because individuals are worthless and want to stand out from the crowd. Shouting their beliefs is one way of doing that.

For example, I believe that Gay pride parades would be improved by the addition of being on fire. And not just flaming.

And I also believe that individuals can get fucked and die, I think that the future is a glorious place, and we're accelerating towards it, and that we can only get there with people- the same people who I hate.

People are hypocritical, stupid and confrontational. All of us. Especially me. Look, I'm right here essentially insulting you. That's pretty confrontational. And that's why they're all up in your face.

You are very astute. -_-

Yeah the whole world has noticed this. All humans do it and it has been going on since humanity began. Humans segregate others, they hate and fear things that they do not understand, and they believe that their perspective must be the only true perspective. It's basically why I believe that we are no more intelligent than animals.

What is unbelievable is the way people asser that the Big Bang disproves god. It does not.
What I like is that the man who termed it the "Big Bang" did so to make people agree that it was a ridiculous idea. Of course, as we know, that didn't work. Also, being created from the biggest explosion in the history of ever is pretty fuckin' cool.

Louis CK covered this gay thing very well, when he was verated for giggling at some rollerskating guy in nothing but pink glittery hotpants and some lime green rollerskates, gliding down the sidewalk..just being very stereotypically...gay.

'Hey, you can't laugh at him for being gay'

'I'm not, I'm laughing cos he looks fucking ridiculous, I don't care if he loves cock or not, he looks hilarious!'

I also don't care if you are gay or not, but, just like if you choose to dress like a chav, I've got every right to assume you'll try to steal my phone and wallet, if you go so flamboyant that you look like you were dragged backwards thru a vat of glue then a carnival warehouse, then yes, I might think you look funny.

As for religion, it's pretty much the same as gay, neither side's going to convince the other to change sides thru talking, yet the 'book' demands that they keep trying.

I suggest as an athiest, leave religious people alone to believe, only pull them up on it if they're using it to hate, THEN we have a problem with what they believe, personally, I think the more people who think it's right to help others, love each other nad look after the weak, the better, and if believing in God helps them do that, I'll accept it. If believing in God makes them beat up gays, protest funerals or murder abortion doctors however, fuck em. ( I understand that's a small minority of idiots, mainly just using the Bible as an excuse.)

You're WRONG! No one is up-in-your-face about their beliefs so just SUCK IT!

Just kidding. I agree. It gets excessive. I think it's all because people want to be so sure in what they believe. People hate being wrong. If god suddenly came and said "Yeah, I exist guys. Give it a break. Want an example of my powers?" *blows up Russia* People still wouldn't believe it because that would mean they were wrong. Their arguments were wrong. They'd feel shame, deep down, but they'd disguise it with pride or something.
You know, if he blew up russia, i'd believe.

But only because i'd want to /kill/ him.

Beleifs are like genitals. Everyone has them, but if you, for some reason, think yours are special, and whip them out in public and start affronting people with it; you are just asking for people to stop taking you seriously.

That interests me. What if God came up against the power of the Russian reversal? Then what?
God would get gibbed? :p

When a Christian meets an Atheist, it instantly turns to who's belief it the right one.
The Atheist begins talking about the science and the "false hope" and such, you know the drill.
Another thing. Why must a Homosexual pull out the rainbow flag? It's like their just asking for the attention. It can't just be: "I'm gay." It has to be "I'm GAAA-HAY-HAAAAY! And all you folks can eat it. Sodomy time!" And then, the protesters have to come out on streets and start shouting at passer-bys.

WHY? This could all be avoided if we could just shut the hell up about it, or at least respect it. Why jump out on the street and yell, "I'm [BELIEF} every body! SUCK IT!"
Because there are people like you who defame groups of people with broad strokes such as this post.

Oh, and why are you getting "up in our face" with your opinions on this with this post? Seems like this could all be avoided if you would shut the hell up about it, or at least respect that in some cases, like homosexuality, there's indeed ample injustice to fuel discontent and that without active dissent the injustice will continue.

They're not?

Not every Christian or Atheist is confrontational, not every gay waves the flag?

Though given the current outlook of society is that gay means "inferior," it's not hard to understand why people are drawing attention to themselves in a climate that insists on pushing gays back into the closet.

OT: I think one of the first responses was the correct one. Everyone wants to be right. If they're proud of who they are, the show it. There's nothing wrong with that. The problem comes when people try to question their pride and confront them about who they are. Live and let live.

Also, it really just depends on the people. One of my friends' step-father is a pastor and his wife(my friends mother) is extremely involved in their church. In the 10 years I've known them(I'm pretty much friends with them too), they've never pushed their beliefs on me. Any questions or concerns I've had have been answered by them without it being an argument. They've invited me to church and when I turned them down, they let it go, but let me know that the offer is always on the table.

People need to be more like that. Just accept people for who they are and move on.

Well, atheists do it because Jehovah's witnesses gave them a visit and they're in a generally bad mood.

Theists do it because well, god told them to.

And gays do it because of centuries of discrimination. Also, some branches of the bigot government don't want them to ruin their fun open minded sex lives and get married.

Being a gay atheist, you just made a bad move |:|
Im kidding of course, though you really shouldn't say sodomy, as that concerns "unnatural sex" which includes more than just homosexual sex. Plus, I'm sure Gay people don't like their behaviour being called unnatural. Also, being gay is not a belief, so thats quite different.
And though I personally don't engage in all that "gay pride" stuff, I think its understandable. A lot of people go through half their life keeping in their sexuality, and not telling anyone. And perhaps when they do tell someone, they have to keep it on the DL or pander to that person's preferences. So yeah, maybe when they are old enough to be open about it they want to say it loud and proud and a lot and at inappropriate situations. Just human nature. Tell you what, try acting as if you are part of a different sexuality for a month, tell no one that you're really straight (if you are) and see how easy it is. I'm not judging, just saying you should keep an open mind.
And protesters for Gay Rights have every right to shout. I really don't know of a lot of gay people who like to stand in the street and shout their sexuality as a pass time, I think they have better things to be doing. Protesting is very, very different. I mean, if black marriage was still disallowed in America or Europe, there would be uproar. Don't see how gay marriage is any different.

Finally, on the atheist/theist thing... I really dislike it when militant atheists just immediately rant about their "superior" beliefs. Then again, I personally don't think its as bad as a militant theist, but even so. If an atheist and a theist get into a debate over their beliefs, so long as both of them wanted to, why not? Then it's just a philosophical discussion. I have a Christian friend and we argue all the time. If you aren't involved, how does it implicate you? A heated discussion is different, but those usually don't usually come about because of actually belief, but rather using beliefs as an excuse. Just look at the Troubles in Northern Ireland...

So yeah. I think sometimes people are insecure about their beliefs, and thus have to belligerently enforce them. But keep an open mind.

Also they want more people to have something in common with. also it feels good to be right.

But that is an experience of someone shoving their beliefs in your face.

If someone was talking to you and said something in the conversation that was incorrect, would you stand by and ignore it?

Why should something that someone says that's wrong be ignored?
[sub]NOTE: When I say 'wrong', I'm including the fact that truth is absolutely subjective.[/sub]
