Ok I am gonna start off and say I love Fallout 3. I spent 100+ hours with a single character and am now currently preparing my second character for the first DLC pack due next week (and 1 day 4 hours 37 minutes 41 seconds) and I can point out its flaws. I'll tackle the easiest target first. The main story is horrible. It starts off really well and gets flushed halfway through. Even the sidequests seem to end rather abruptly with no chance of an extra dialogue option after the quest is complete.
Now lets look at the gameplay for a minute. It almost feels like you are shooting the same super mutants or Raiders in the face throught the game. Even worse is those god damned scorpions. I got sick of them after the millionth time they seemed to pop out of nowhere. Also why was there no onscreen damage indicator? It is so frustrating getting shot in the ass but not knowing where it was coming from. Dungeons suffered from all lookin similar and there was a few that trapped me because there is just no noticeable difference to distinguish where you have been and where you haven't. Another thing is the treasure. I like treasure but in so many areas it felt unrewarding. "Oh wow a quantum cola or some ammo". Most of the named weapons weren't in dungeons but held by NPC's.
My last gripe is about the ultimate lack of freedom. My first time I was a good guy. I tried to do the right thing everytime. So this playthrough is evil. I can't say I am impressed with the lack of choice I have. I was hopin to turn the family against Arefu but the only choice I had was to help them to more or lesser degrees. It kinda seems to be truly evil is to go and wipe out the townsfolk yourself. I was expecting more of a puppetmaster pullin the strings instead of getting my hands dirty. There is also the karma imbalance. Why can you kill an evil character, rack up good karma, yet these characters weren't really given a chance to be evil. More offsetting is wiping out some bad characters yet you still get dinged by "stealing" thier stuff after they are dead.
