So I was just taking with a friend of mine, and they point out that it would take something like 12 years to remake final fantasy 7 to up todate graphics and what not. Hes making it that FF7 was the greatest one ever made. 7 is a great game but is it really worth remaking? If so help me with what was so great about it. I really want to know from other gamers. Personally I am a fan of the orginal NES version final fantasy.

I like 8 the best personally. Which has seemingly became pretty common nowadays. I remember when I was saying that around the time of its release and I would get flamed hardcore for liking such "crap". It didn't matter that I had played every US released version of the game before that. I actually liked 3 (US) and 7 about the same.

FF7 has became a sort of meme I think due to the innovation in quality for its time and hyped up by being ammunition for Playstation to come out swinging with its console. They really raised the bar against Nintendo early on with that game. Personally, I think that most people that claim 7 is the best probably haven't sampled many and they know 7 was a "big thing" on release on a scale no other FF game has matched to date. (10 came closest but not that close) Basically, I think it is labeled "the best" because it is "the most commonly known". Could be worse though had FF13's hype caught on. Be thankful.

Simply put, FF7 was the first "mainstream" Final Fantasy. I-VI were niche games in the US and Europe, but the popularity of the Playstation meant that many gamers were introduced to the series with FF7. Don't underestimate the nostalgia factor. For me, VI is the ultimate FF game. I don't think it's co-incidence that it's the first one I played.

Where did that 12 year figure come from? Sounds a bit daft and unbelievable.

Also, it's loved because a) it's pretty good and b) it was the first big 3d jrpg lots of people played.

FF6 was my favorite.
FF7 adding NOTHING new except a 3D engine and a variety to magic and whatnot.

It's a good game with fairly interesting and generally well developed characters and a lengthy if somewhat confusing plot. Far from perfect but it's still a good, solid JRPG. With a brilliant soundtrack.

Personally I prefer FF8 (still got the PC version), not completely sure why as the plot makes little to no sense, but I love it all the same.

Some of it is nostalgia, some of it is the amount of popularity it had back in the late 90s but most of it is simply the fact that it's a damn good game! Great story, solid characters (both good and bad), beautiful graphics for its time, interesting locales and a fantastic soundtrack.

That said, it's not my favourite FF game. That would be IX, which is also my favourite game of all time.

It is a solid game that introduced a lot of people to the series and RPGs in general. It is not the god send that people make it out to be, nor is it the best Final Fantasy, nor is it the best PSX RPG, nor is it even close to being in the top 10 RPGs, but it is still a solid game.

Also - I'm not buying that 12 years to remake FF7 crap.
It definitely wouldn't take 12 years to remake FFVII.

That said, it would take approximately quadruple the price of FFXIII to get it to modern graphical standards. The sheer volume of stuff needed to be modeled, textured, etc would send the price and time through the roof.

I'd give an optimistic estimate of 6 years and $80,000,000 to do it.

Im not really into it, I never thought FF7 was that great. Honestly the only FF game I ever really enjoyed was FF9 which was very good up until the end when they decided they needed an extra big bad instead of just good old kuja

Because gunblades are awesome and its characters were the best lot yet is my reasoning. I agree on the story. It is just another rendition final fantasy has been telling since the first one really.

I don't know. All I know is that you CANNOT argue with people who think it's the greatest game ever, because they will fight that point to the grave.

After listening to the hype about how amazing it was for a few years I went out and got a copy of it in the ps2 era. Rly didnt enjoy it, do not remotely understand the hype. Though to be fair im not a huge jrpg fan.

Did not like the gameplay, the art style was meh, the story, which a lot of people seem to love, idk I just couldnt get into it. Didnt really care for any of the characters either, save maybe sephiroth and even then only as a B list baddie.

Actually, FF8 makes a lot of sense if you give it a change of perspective. Specifically: http://squallsdead.com/

If Halo Anniversary could do it in a few years, Sony would be able to do it even faster.

It deserves a remake as much OoT, Halo, and almost any Nintendo game do. Honestly, I love FF7. It was the game that actually got me into video games. Would I buy a remake of it with better graphics and maybe some minor tweaks and add-ons? Hell yes I would. I also bought the new OoT remake if that tells you anything.

I think people want it remade because it is one of the early memories of RPGs for some (including myself). Of course, it would likely help us realize just how awful the fixed-camera was in that game, but I wouldn't mind seeing it remade anyways.

The Halo: CE upgrade also had a fraction of a percent of the graphical work that would be required to bring FF7 up to date. FF7 has an order of magnitude more environments, characters, enemies, weapons and details than Halo does. It's simply not feasible to perform such a feat in any reasonable timeframe or budget.

7 did to add new stuff

whiny emo protagonists, not like Cecil at his worst ether :p
and featured a moms boy for a villain, who got no personality dose very little 'evil' out side screwing with cloud and killing a girl that, by all rights, had no real chance against him anyway, but he stands around looking cool >.> so we have fanboys now to

-.- thank you FF7

*goes back to playing FF6*

Because it's a really good game that is a piece of videogame history and is an example that RPG's are always held up to compare to?

Just saying.

Probably not the best game EVER, but certainly is quite a good game. I've really enjoyed playing it.
On the other hand, I've never finished 8, because at the point I got it (2007/8?) I couldn't be bothered with it's graphics, especially not, few months after finishing 7, and playing games with decent graphics after that.
Still I would love to see remake, together with Chrono Trigger/Cross sequel/remake.
