It's like Club Pengiun, aimed for little children with no real structure.

Except it doesn't have Penguins, which automatically make anything cool, therefore Club penguin is cooler than Maple Story.

I gave it a shot, and actually somewhat enjoyed it until one day I was in the mid-20s levels and realized just how steep the XP curve is. And that the quests were hardly making a dent in it.

Never looked back.

Playing a game for 1 hour and saying it's junk is not a worthy argument.
I can give a few instances on why you are wrong.
Go on...
I'll admit I didn't play it for that long, but then again, a food critic doesn't need to eat ten dog turd and sauerkraut sandwiches before he decides he doesn't like the taste.
-Game Informer Magazine December 2009 edition.

...and maybe after the rocky beginning, the game is nothing short of fan-dabby-fabulous, but the demo's job was to make me want to buy the full version, and in that regard, it's a big, dark, gothy failure.

I know you provide the option to skip to the next chapter, but I'm not going to use it. I've had enough. If someone serves you a dead dog for lunch, you do not stick around for the pudding.

There's nothing wrong with abandoning a game if you don't like it from the start, because the point of a game is to have fun, and if a game can't provide that from the start, that's their fault, not the player's, for sticking through it. As someone once said, "An acre of performance is worth a whole world of promises." If all the game can do is promise to get better, I wouldn't blame someone for dropping it.

I think the reason it's addicting is because everyone wants the interesting clothes and colorful attacks. That said, why don't they just go on a private server? They can get all the colorful attacks they want in a matter of thirty minutes.
They may not get the 'satisfaction of working for it,' but why would you want to work for fun in a game? The point of a game is to have fun in the first place

Something tells me just about none of you guys have played Maplestory for the last couple of months,
Could it be that the thread is well over a year old, time travel has not been invented yet and we were(obviously arrogantly) trashing the game without doing any research about what it MIGHT BE LIKE IN THE FUTURE?

I stopped playing it because it was shit, but people like you are why I don't ever try playing it again.

I think it's because it combined my love of rpgs with my love of platformers. The platforming element makes fighting monsters more fun than the normal "click on monster till it dies" rigamarole. You actually have to time your attacks to keep the monster back; you actually need to outmaneuver the monster rather than just stand there all day attacking it.
What are you referring "click on monster till it dies rigamarole" to? I have never played an rpg where you did not have to outmaneuver the monster.

It's fun for the same reason that most MMORPGs are fun. Which means, it's fun for a reason, but that reason is totally beyond my ability to comprehend.

2 pages of people saying it isn't fun...and yet, it's a goddamn gold mine for developers.

Consider that.

I was fun at one point, i have 5 or so friends playing with me and the quests were interesting for awhile and i did enjoy exploring the areas and finding secret areas(until they made them obvious) eventually, people stopped playing and the quests were grindy and repetitive

i didn't even make it to lvl 40 before it got old and boring
